Top 3 Underrated Dailies

by fairygal626

--------

The sun is shining, the Pteris are chirping, and Neopians everywhere are waking up to a bright new day. Some Neopians begin the day with breakfast, some by greeting their guild mates. Many, though, start the day by doing their ‘dailies’ - simple daily tasks or games, usually luck-based, with a chance at free/cheap items. Some are guaranteed freebies, like Giant Omelet, while others are a chance at a great prize for a cost, like Buried Treasure.

There are dozens of dailies around Neopia to cater to every ilk of Neopian. Many of these dailies are popular and completed by many Neopians, such as Tombola, buying stocks, battling for prizes, or lab ray. Others, however, are not as well-known and not completed by as many Neopians. These dailies are left in the dark to those few who know about their greatness.

This list will bring those dailies into the light.

Here are three dailies that are highly underrated for their prize potential, leading to many quitting the daily after achieving the avatar (if applicable) or never doing the daily at all.

     3. Wheel of Mediocrity

The Wheels around Neopia are vast and varied, including Excitement, Knowledge, Misfortune, Monotony, Extravagance, and the daily that earned a spot at number four: Mediocrity.

Wheel of Mediocrity is a daily that most people know about due to the avatar. It’s usually not a difficult avatar, and you’ll probably get it pretty quickly spinning the wheel. You can spin every 40 minutes, so you can have plenty of tries.

This daily is a little bit of a gamble. It costs 100 Neopoints to spin, and you’re not guaranteed a good prize. Bad prizes include painful “rewards” like fireballs and pterodactyls that swoop down and bite your Neopet. Spin at your own risk!

Overall, though, the wedges on this wheel are profitable (and a few more aren’t total losses, at least.) At the cost of only 100 Neopoints, you can almost spin for half a day just on your Fashion Fever winnings. You have pretty good odds of making a profit either in pure Neopoints (200-4000 Neopoints) or items, breaking even on the spin fee, or making back a couple Neopoints for a partial loss.

With such good odds, the modest wins from this wheel will stack up over time. Just remember you could injure your Neopet, so don’t spin right before you plan to battle. While you’d naturally get more profit from spinning more times, I still make a profit spinning only once or twice a day and don’t have the stress of timing the next spin. Figure out what schedule works best for you, and spin, spin, spin!

     2. Coconut Shy

Put your speakers on mute for this next one. Just do it. Trust me.

The second most underrated daily is none other than Coconut Shy. This game/daily also has an avatar, so many people play it for that purpose. But, as with the Wheel of Mediocrity, a lot of people stop once they have the avatar.

     Keep playing!

Day to day, you’re going to lose Neopoints on this game. The Keeper in charge assures me it isn’t rigged at all, but those coconuts can move around an awful lot without falling down ... Put your cursor around the “a” in ‘Start’ / ‘Play Again”, keep it steady, and just keep firing from that same spot. Every few weeks (or months, if you’re unlucky), you’ll knock down a coconut. I’ve gone months at times without knocking over a coconut followed by a week where I knocked down two. You never know how long it’ll take, but you WILL knock them over!

When you knock over a coconut, you’re awarded a flat 10,000 Neopoints prize and a random coconut that can be put in your stamp album. The 10,000 Neopoints might cover your losses for a few weeks, but that coconut is the real prize - most sell for at least 150,000 Neopoints. (If you collect stamps, you can stick them in your album instead and save Neopoints filling up that page, so it’s helpful either way.)

Overall, while you’ll lose Neopoints day to day or even week to week, the coconuts you win will more than make up for your losses and even bring in a tidy profit.

If you’ve ever played Coconut Shy though, you know why I said to mute your computer. The Keeper has a, erm, charminglaugh.

I don’t think he’s laughing with you, either...

     1. Faerieland Employment Agency

And now, the most overlooked daily of them all: Faerieland Employment Agency.

There’s no avatar for this one. It costs several thousand upfront, possibly up to about 9,500 at a time. You have to race other Neopians for the free jobs. Coupons are super expensive. So why in the world is this daily on the list?

Ok, hear me out. This is actually a pretty easy way to make thousands of Neopoints in a few minutes if you’re savvy about it, and it’ll boost a stat on your Neopet’s lookup (Jobs completed/failed and job rank). Everyone loves stats!

First off, I only do basic jobs (a.k.a., free ones.) I’m not about to spend time buying coupons. I want to get in, make Neopoints, and get out. So if you’re like me, click on basic jobs. You’ll see a list of jobs stating the item, how many of that item, how long you have to get the items, and the base reward. Find ones that have a huge base reward, like 8,000 or 9,000 Neopoints. Don’t do anything else just yet.

Moving quickly, open up the shop wizard in another tab and search the item you want. Do a little mental math to see if the price on the shop wizard multiplied by the number you need for the quest costs less than or equal to the base reward. If you need 3 Baby Dolls at 3,000 Neopoints each on the shop wizard and the base reward is 9,300 Neopoints, 3 x 3000 = 9000. That’s less than 9300, so that one’s okay to do. Only grab jobs if the total you’ll spend is under, at, or maybe within a hundred or so Neopoints above the base reward. Any higher and it’ll cut into your profit too much.

Now, quickly open up the shops you’ll need to buy from. Switch back to your Employment Agency tab and accept the job. If someone else took it while you were pricing, no big deal. Just keep scrolling through the pages for another. If you’re in a rush, delve into the lower base rewards; just make sure you’re making a profit! Otherwise, keep looking or waiting for a new high base reward. Jobs get added every ten minutes, so while it may take time, new ones will pop up.

Why do I suggest pricing beforehand and opening the shops when you may not even get the job? Speed matters. That’s right: the faster you complete the job, the better your reward. Jobs have time limits anyway, but you want to be well under them to get the best bonuses. Aim to finish jobs within a minute, or even thirty seconds if you can.

The difficulty in grabbing jobs wholly depends on how many people are fighting for them. If you can’t get a good job no matter how fast you try and price it, try this instead: just glance at the base reward and time limit to make sure it’s at least 5 minutes, grab the job anyway, and hope for the best. Over time, you’ll learn which items are not currently profitable, like Bears. If you grab a job you won’t profit one, you can go back and quit it for 200 Neopoints, but it’ll still count as a job for the day.

Or, if that blind method is too risky for you, check back at a less popular time of day. There may simply be too many people right then who want to do jobs. You can only do 5 per day, so the same people aren’t sitting there taking all the good jobs. Because of that daily limit though, be sure to do jobs before midnight! Don’t miss out because you waited too long for a 9,000 base reward. Even a small profit is better than none.

If you grab profitable jobs with high base rewards and lots of time, you can make an average of 2,000-4,000 Neopoints per job, five jobs per day. The Agency will stop you if you try and do them all close together, so you may have to come back later to do the fourth and fifth ones. No sweat, just go do the other dailies on this list in the meantime.

By using just a couple minutes over the course of the day, you can easily make over 15,000 Neopoints. Pretty good, right?

     So .... What Now?

Well, now you and hundreds of other Neopians can add three more dailies to your lists. For dailies on this list that require you to compete with others, well ... sorry to the regulars for the publicity! It makes it more exciting though, don’t you think?

Now go forth and complete these dailies!
