Neoquest 2 Character Featurette

by grimmbones7

--------

So you’ve played Neoquest 1 or 2 once and you think you know the game? Try beating both on INSANE mode then come talk to me. LOL. No seriously! Don’t hurt me...

Here is a basic rundown of each of characters, their skills, weapons, armour, and how to use them effectively as a team. Remember the maximum number of skill points you can use on any skill is 15. Maxing any skill out before the first fight with King Terask in Faerieland isn’t ideal because you will likely get weapons and armour with serious skill boosts and you will have wasted the points you could have used on another skill.

Note that during the final 4 boss battles (Faerie Thief 3rd time, both Pant Devils, and King Terask (1st time), you will receive your final equipment. Each member of your party has 2 final weapons as well as 1-2 final armours that they can possibly get in these battles. All of the ‘best’ weapon and armours listed below are the optimal ones. You may get one, both, or neither, of their final armour/weapons so just do the best with what you get.

Rohane - the Swordsman

Your main character from the start of the game (Town of Tristen).

Powers:

Critical Attacks: Each melee hit has a chance to cause a Critical Strike, hitting for more than the normal maximum melee damage.

Damage Increase: Average melee damage is increased.

Combat Focus: An activated skill that increases defensive ability, at the cost of decreasing damage output.

Stunning Strikes: Each hit has a chance to stun the target, delaying the enemy's next action.

Battle Taunt: Causes enemies to focus their attacks on the taunter, rather than other characters.

Innate Magic Resistance: Increases resistance to magic attacks.

Innate Melee Haste: Increases attack speed.

Best Armour: Jeran’s Battle Armour - def 80 (+4 Magic Resistance, +4 Melee Haste)

Best Weapon: Sword of Apocalypse - dmg 80 (+2 Critical Attacks, +2 Damage Increase, +2 Combat Focus, +2 Stunning Strikes, +2 Battle Taunt)

His most important skills are Critical Attacks and Damage Increase because he is your strongest single-opponent hitter. He will also have the most HP at the end, so although Magic Resistance is typically useful, he will likely be the last to be killed.

Mipsy - the Mage

After defeating Zombom in Chapter 1, you can find her on the south side of the bridge in White River.

Powers:

Direct Damage: Destructive magical energy is unleashed at a single enemy.

Group Direct Damage: Destructive magical energy is unleashed at all enemies.

Group Haste: Haste spells make all of the caster's allies move more quickly.

Slowing: Slow spells make one of the caster's enemies move more slowly.

Damage Shields: A shield of energy is placed around an ally, causing damage to any enemy who strikes them.

Innate Melee Defense: Increases defense against attacks.

Innate Casting Haste: Increases spellcasting speed.

Best Armour: Jahbal’s Robe - def 35 (+4 Innate Melee Haste, +4 Casting Haste)

Best Weapon: Wand of Reality - dmg 35 (+4 Group Haste, +3 Slowing, +2 Damage Shields, +1 Group Direct Damage, -1 Direct Damage)

Her most important skills are Group Direct Damage, Group Haste and Innate Casting Haste. She is one of the only characters that can hit 4 opponents at once, but she also ends up with the least HP. Therefore, making sure her turn comes around as quickly as possible is key if you want to keep her alive.

Talinia - the Archer

After defeating Leximp in Chapter 2 and getting through the Cave of Terrors, you can find her in the Mountainside Inn.

Powers:

Increased Bow Damage: Increases damage output when using bows.

Multiple Targets: Fires multiple bow shots at once. (They do not automatically apply to regular attacks; they must be manually activated.)

Ranged: Any opponent targeting a character with this skill will take longer to perform the action.

Shockwave: Hits have a chance to cause a shockwave, which stuns all enemies temporarily.

Slowing Strike: Whenever the ranger hits an enemy, the enemy will usually slow down for a period of time.

Innate Magic Resistance: Increases resistance to magic attacks.

Innate Melee Haste: Increases attack speed.

Best Armour: Treeskin - def 55 (+4 Innate Melee Haste, +4 Magic Resistance)

Best Weapon: Bow of Destiny - dmg 55 (+2 Increased Bow Damage, +2 Multiple Target, +2 Ranged, +2 Shockwave, +2 Slowing Strike)

Her most important skills are Increased Bow Damage, Multiple Targets and Innate Melee Haste.. She is the other character that can hit 4 opponents at once, but she also ends up with a low amount of HP. Therefore, making sure her turn comes around as quickly as possible is key if you want to kill groups of enemies in the last few chapters and keep her alive.

Velm - the Healer

After defeating Gebarn II, walk all the way back north past the Ruined Temple and into the striped tent in Waset to pick him up.

Powers:

Healing: Heals a single ally, raising that ally's hit points.

Group Healing: Heals the caster's entire group, raising all their allies' hit points (but not as much as the single-target Heal spell).

Group Shielding: Strengthens the caster's allies by increasing their magical and melee defense.

Mesmerize: Mesmerizes an enemy, causing them to be distracted for long periods. Enemies who are healed or damaged while mesmerized will become un-mesmerized.

Celestial Hammer: Strikes an enemy with a magical blow, damaging and stunning them.

Innate Melee Defense: Increases defense against attacks.

Innate Casting Haste: Increases spellcasting speed.

Best Armour: Holy Chain of Shadows - def 60 (+4 Innate Casting Haste, +4 Innate Melee Defense)

Best Weapon: Staff of Righteous Fury - dmg 45 (+2 Healing, +2 Group Healing, +2 Group Shielding, +2 Mesmerize, +2 Celestial Hammer)

His most important skills are Group Healing, Group Shielding and Innate Melee Defense because he is your HEALER. Allowing him to defend himself so you don’t have to use all your potions is the key in Faerieland. If Velm dies and you don’t have a Resurrection Potion, you are in trouble because the Inns get expensive. Casting Haste is also a very important skill for obvious reasons.

Team Fighting

Rohane

Take it easy and remember to heal when necessary. Focus on Critical Attacks and Damage Increase. The faster you can kill your enemies, the more chance you have to heal. Use potions sparingly. However, the game is much more fun once you get Mipsy.

Rohane + Mipsy

Consider using a skill point on Battle Taunt so that Mipsy doesn’t get killed. Let Mipsy start injuring multiple enemies, while Rohane kills them when their HP gets low enough for a KO. Use potions only when necessary.

Rohane + Mipsy + Talinia

Get Mipsy and Talinia tag-teaming the multiple enemy fights. Use Rohane to attack the strongest enemy first and by then the rest will be weakened enough to pick off easily. Feel free to use more potions by this point.

Rohane + Mipsy + Talinia + Velm

Thank Fyora, the game is cake from here. Start the fights by getting Velm to use Group Shielding and Mipsy to use Group Haste. Then Rohane can start with the strongest enemy while Mipsy and Talinia use group-based attacks and Velm heals everyone and occasionally uses Mesmerize. You probably won’t need potions by these point, so spend your coins on Resurrection Potions, Damage Potions, Slowing Potions, Freezing Potions, etc.

Janet and Jane: The Case of the Monster Hunter
Jane, Natia, and James all went home several hours ago. I told them I wanted to stay and work on things related to the crime ring that my mom and dad were working to get rid of. I wasn't getting very far. I didn't know if it was because I didn't have enough information right now or if it was because I needed sleep.
