Rolling For Riches: Dice Of Destiny

by doglover3662

--------

I once opened a fortune cookie that read: "Luck is the result of hard work." I wanted to apply this to Dice of Destiny.

While I don't necessarily believe this is true when it comes to rolling a set of dice, there is a bit of truth to it. If you work hard and practice hard at something you really want, the odds will end up in your favor at some point. If you give up after one or two games because luck isn't on your side, then you won't ever win a trophy. But if you continuously play, after a few dozen times you'll eventually luck into a trophy, so you must remain dedicated and work hard. If you bust your paws and really dedicate yourself to something based in luck, the hope is that you'll eventually win. And in the case of Dice of Destiny, you don't have much to lose except time. However, I'm not quite sure this theory would be quite as profitable in a game like Kiss The Mortog or in one of the many slot games around the site.

So, now that you've dedicated yourself to beating Dice of Destiny and getting a trophy, there are a few things you need to know. There is a saying that goes "perfect practice makes perfect". If you practice poorly you'll never get better, which is why I wrote this guide, so you'll be able to practice perfectly and efficiently rather than being a whining gambler hoping for a high score.

At the start of the game you are present with two dice and a set of nine numbers. Your goal is to roll the dice and clear the numbers at the top in any combination that adds up to the sum of the dice. For example, if you roll two dice and the total adds up to 8, you can either clear the "8" tile from the top, or clear the "6" plus "2" tiles from the top. Once you clear a tile, you can no longer use it during this round so you have to be a bit careful.

In the first round you'll get a total of 20 roll attempts, and this will go down in the following rounds to make the game more difficult.

First round: 20 rolls

Second round: 17 rolls

Third round: 15 rolls

Fourth round: 12 rolls

Fifth round: 10 rolls

Your main objective in the game is to clear the row of tiles in as few rolls as possible, because the less rolls you use during the main round, the more rolls you'll earn during the bonus round.

For example, if you are able to clear the first round in only 7 rolls, you'll earn 13 rolls for the bonus round. The bonus round features two dice with symbols on them instead of numbers, and if you are able to match symbols you'll get a point modifier. If you match the two green sides, you'll gain a whopping 10 points, if you match the two yellow sides you'll earn 5 points, but if you are very unlucky and match the red sides you will LOSE 10 points. The risk of losing points is definitely worth the reward, so I recommend using both dice in every round and hoping to come out on top (you usually will).

Now that you know how the game works, I'll get into how exactly you can maximize all these bonuses and get the highest number of bonus rolls.

The tiles you want to focus on above all else are the largest numbers. 7, 8, and 9 are the hardest to clear because they require you two roll both dice. You want to get these out of the way as soon as possible, so if you rolls a "4" and a "5", make sure to clear the "9" and not the "6" and "3". The numbers that are 6 and below can easily be cleared with a single die.

You'll also want to preserve the smallest numbers for last. 1s and 2s should only be cleared when you absolutely have to, or towards the end. These are very valuable for adding things up and possibly creating a triple combo: such as rolling a "7" and clearing "4", "2", and "1" all at once. You shouldn't focus on triple combos too early, only after you've cleared the largest numbers.

Once you've cleared 7, 8, and 9 you can focus on 6 and below. I personally like to still roll two dice if I have 5 and 6 left, as I can use those plus the smaller dice to add up to large numbers. As an example, if I roll a "12" I can clear "5", "6", and "1" all at the same time. If I have cleared everything above 4, I tend to only roll one die. If I only have three tiles left and they are all 6 or under, I'll also only roll one die. With one die you have a 16.67% chance of landing on the number you need below 6.

A lot of this is simply luck with a little bit of strategy. At some points you'll get frustrated, maybe getting through the first two rounds with tons of bonus points and then on round three you can't roll the "2" you need to save your life and end up having the end the game. Just make sure to save your score sends for your highest scores if you want the trophy, be careful not to click and send score on a round you scores a measly 100 points on or you'll be very, very frustrated.

The game is easy in concept, and that's why the luck factor has increased the difficulty. You're better off playing this game in short spans, maybe 10-15 minutes at a time and then stepping away for a bit and handling some other dailies or hanging around the Neoboards. Dedicating hours in a row to this game will leave you begging for mercy. More than anything, it's important to have fun! It's a game and you'll luck out and win that trophy eventually as long as you remain dedicated to it and commit to perfect practice! Get out there and get rolling, your trophy is waiting!!
