Cracking Eggs: A Guide To Grarrl Keno

by katietease

--------

Grarrl Keno is one of the easiest games to lose.

The concept is fairly simple: there are 80 eggs on the board, only 10 will hatch, and it's your job to select which of those eggs will hatch. You only get to guess 10 and the prize you are rewarded depends on how many you guess right.

0 matches = 1 x your bet

5 matches = 2 x your bet

6 matches = 30 x your bet

7 matches = 100 x your bet

8 matches = 500 x your bet

9 matches = 3,000 x your bet

10 matches = 30,000 x your bet

The amount you can bet depends on the age of your account. As you can see, the highest you can win is an unheard of amount, and this is what keeps users coming back to gamble away their hard earned NP.

So let's say for example, you have an account that is 10 years old. That equals 3,650 days old. You can bet 50 NP + 2 NP for each day your account has aged, so the maximum bet for a 10 year old account is 7,350 NP.

Imagine, if you hit all 10 egg matches with a max bet you would walk away with a whopping 220,500,000 NP. That is the definition of a rags to riches story. That prize money alone would earn over 75,000 NP per day in bank interest. Are you hooked on the idea yet? Even if you don't match all 10 eggs, a match of 9 would earn a 10 year old account 22,050,000 NP which is nothing to laugh at. Those prizes could fund your gallery or paint brush dreams for many years to come, or only pay for half of a battledome weapon in the current market!

The reality is though, very few people will actually win that prize, or any at all. If you only match between 1 and 4 eggs, you lose all your money. They try to make it sting a bit less when you match nothing by at least giving you your bet back, but it still ends up in large losses for most players. This is definitely not a game for the faint of heart.

However, a zero match can still be a bit beneficial. Since the game is so incredibly irritating many players don't bother, so it's fairly easy to get on the hi-score chart in the beginning of the month. If you have an account older than roughly 8 years, a 0 match on a max bet could earn you a bronze trophy pretty easily.

If you want to do a bit better than bronze, there is another technique. When choosing eggs, you don't need to choose all 10, but that is definitely the best way to maximize your winnings. If you choose only 2 numbers and match both, you'll win 5x your prize. This is the best way to try to rise through the trophy ranks. It is actually pretty easy to match only 2 eggs when a total of 10 are cracking, and winning 5x your bet will pretty much guarantee you a trophy as long as you aren't a brand new account.

Along with potentially winning millions, or at least a trophy, there is an avatar up for grabs! The avatar seems to be randomly awarded, but many people receive it after matching at least 4 eggs. If you are playing strictly for the avatar, it's best to avoid going in on the max bet and just betting 1 neopoint and playing over and over. The problem with betting 1 neopoint? What if that is the bet you end up getting 10 matches on? You only win 30,000 NP when you could've won hundreds of millions!! Go big or go home, or live a life of regret with your measly 30,000 NP.

But there must be some way to grow your chances at winning the jackpot, right? It can't be purely luck based, can it? Unfortunately, it is all luck. Superstitious players may fill their inventory with a lucky cybunny foot or lucky robots foot, stocking up on a lucky slorg gnome is also a popular choice, but unfortunately those won't affect the outcome. A lot of players prefer to stick to their same lucky numbers when choosing which eggs to gamble on, while others go the fast route by choosing "Quick Pick" and letting the random generator do the work for them. It doesn't seem like either is necessarily better or worse than the other, so go with whatever makes you feel better. Do whatever luck rituals you think you need, make a wish at 11:11 that you'll win, and then hit that play button and let those eggs crack.

My personal strategy involves choosing the same numbers every time I play. I don't like to mess with a good thing and I just play the same eggs over and over and over again to at least add some consistency to my game. I also don't generally play more than 10 games at a time because it is such a quick way to lose money, I like to limit myself so I don't run my bank account into the ground. When I'm going for the trophy I will bet on only two eggs rather than 10 because I have a higher chance of winning at least something that way. The minimum to make a profit while betting on 10 eggs is to hit 5 matches and that is incredibly difficult.

The truth of the game is that the odds are not in your favor. The biggest jackpot is so high because there is barely a chance that anyone will ever win it. In fact, I haven't heard of anybody winning the 30,000x jackpot in all the time since the game has been released. Maybe this acts as motivation because someone has to win it eventually, or maybe it'll be your deterrent from playing as the odds of you being the one to win are little to nothing. It does act as a great little adrenaline rush as the eggs are cracking and the Grarrl as growling, but overall you should expect to lose quite a bit of NP and maybe walk away with a trophy or avatar.
