Wintery Games - Snow Roller

by royal_real

--------

Wintery games is back! Now that Christmas is over it’s time to play more games. In this issue we’ll give you tips for snow roller, a – somewhat – new game. Ready? Let’s roll!

The Game

Basically you’re rolling down a mountain at Terror Mountain. On your way down, you will face lots of items and obstacles. You have to pick the items and dodge the obstacles. To move yourself (just in case, you are the snow ball), use the arrow keys and to jump use the space bar. You will be doing it three times, since there are three levels – each one divided in two parts.

Game Over

In the top left corner of your game there will be a bar called items with a percentage in it. The higher the number, the higher the number of items you got. It’s important to keep the bar full, because if it reaches to zero, it’s game over. That being said, always be careful in the beginning of the three levels, because you start with a really low percentage – usually 5% - and hitting only one obstacle can make you lose the game.

The Items

There are a lot of items you can get in the mountain. Usually they come with a red arrow pointing to them, so pay attention then you won’t get confused with the obstacles (which I will explain later). The items’ values are different but they stay the same during the whole game. Dividing by points, here they are:

10 points: Brucicles, Chia pops, Neggies, some slushies (SEE BELOW), Mystery Island Heads

20 points: Abominable Snowballs and Taelia plushies

30 points: power-up slushies (SEE BELOW)

40 points: Cybunnies, Mika and Carassa and Poogle Racers

ABOUT THE POWER UP SLUSHIES: there are two slushies that can change your game instead of only getting points. They are the Black Hole Slushie (the white one) and the Super Traction Slushie (the black one). Both has effects that last a few seconds.

The white slushie attract all the items to your snow ball, just like a black hole would do. It would get easier to get more item points, but it gets harder to control yourself. So is it worth it to get it? It depends. Try to get them in the beginning to see if it actually helps you, then decide yourself if you are going to keep getting it or not. I usually get it, but it’s my personal preference.

The black slushie basically makes the snowball increase faster but it also makes yourself so uncontrollable that I suggest you to see it as an obstacle and avoid it at all costs – but again you could try getting them and if you think it’s nice keep using it.

The Obstacles

There’s nothing really special about them. Some are easier to avoid (fire, wood), some are harder (igloo, house) due to the size. Some of them can make you lose control of the snowball – the ice and the yellow liquid specially – but you should avoid all of them if you don’t want to lose item and 5%, of course.

Scoring

The points are divided in a few categories:

Current Score: the score you get during the stage

Item Score: the quantity of items you got. The more you get, the higher the score.

Snowball Size: the size of your ball. The closer to 100% the higher the score.

Bonus Score: it’s the item score x snowball size. That’s why you have to keep your snowball big and with a lot of items.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: both the size and the item score are the ones in the end of the level. For example, if in some part of the level your snowball size was 100% but you ended it with 64%, the snowball score will be 64%, so keep the 100% until the end.

Strategy

(First of all, I once played in a computer that was so slow that my game lagged for minutes, so if your computer is slow, set the game at low quality before playing.)

The beginning of the level is one of the hardest parts since it’s the easiest part to get a game over, so try to get as much items as you can so the percentage increases. Also, look at the bottom left corner to see which items or obstacles are coming next.

Also, the up arrow key slows down the snowball, while the down arrow key speeds up. Never forget about this, it’s really important when it comes to control your ball – and a bigger snowball is harder to control.

When the percentage is something about 50-60%, stop getting the items! As I just said, it’s harder to control a bigger snowball and the size that matters is the one in the end. With a big ball in the beginning, you’ll hit obstacles way easily, you will lose size AND items. Remember when I talked about bonus score? If you lose both size and item, your bonus score will be lower than not reaching 100% in the end of the level. PROTECT YOUR ITEMS AT ALL COSTS!

There is a part in the middle of the level that you have to choose between three paths in ten seconds, otherwise it will be randomly chosen. I have never seen any difference about choosing it or not. I usually chose any path myself, but you can use the ten seconds to relax and concentrate in the game. Do what you think what it is the best for you!

After the path is chosen, your snowball size will still be the same. As I said in the beginning, don’t pick items! Wait for about 30 seconds and starting getting the items again, so you can increase your snowball size until 100% in the end.

Then the first level ends and the other two levels are basically the same thing, but in a different background. If you did well in the first level, you probably won’t have a problem with the other two! By the way, look at the total score in the end of the level. If you are aiming for the avatar (score 6500+), try to get 2000+ points per level. If I remember, my scores were something like that when I got the avatar:

Level 1: 2300

Level 2: 4800

Level 3: 7100

Basically that’s it! Any more tips, you can neomail me. Keep looking for more Wintery Games!
