All The Guides We Want TNT To Create!

by indulgences

--------

Although I love this Neopets website, I can't help scratching my head with confusion when I think about all the ways in which this site could be improved. My biggest issue with the site is that many aspects are confusing to the fledgling user, such as achieving complicated avatars, or coding user lookups. It wasn't until I'd spent two or three years on this site that I finally got a good handle on the intricacies and rules that govern this site. I wish TNT could create more guides, and not rely on their humble users to create petpage guides that may or may not be accurate!

I know that there are certain aspects of the site that require a bit of mystique, such as learning how to acquire new avatars, or solving puzzles like the Mysterious Negg Cave. I totally agree with TNT that mystery is a good thing when it comes to these things. They require the collective effort of all Neopians to figure out how to best solve these games. And it's kind of cool when, in the end, it's collective effort that benefits everyone who participated. I couldn't have earned my plot trophies without the help and advice of all my Neofriends!

However, I believe there are also other, more open aspects of the site that deserve revamping, such as the Petpet Puddle and the Neopets HTML Guide. How could they be improved? Well, read this article and find out!

Here is a list of all the guides that I, as well as my fellow users, want TNT to create! Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions!

A Guide To Returning A Petpet To Its Base Color

TNT should write a guide about to how to return Petpets to their original colors. I know TNT has stated in the Editorial that painting them with their base color (white, blue, etc.) would return them to their original states, but that instruction is kind of iffy. Plenty of pets are equal parts pink and blue, or yellow and orange. That's why TNT should write a guide that addresses this crucial issue! Perhaps they could link the guide on the Petpet Puddle page?

A More Definitive Coding Guide

Many people believe that an overhaul of "The Neopets HTML Guide" (at //www.neopets.com/help/html1.phtml) is long overdue. They think it's amusing that any Neopian's petpage guide is worlds better than the official HTML guide touted by TNT. I had to giggle and agree! (Sorry, TNT!) The Neopets HTML Guide is extremely simplistic, and lacks many of the more complicated aspects of coding pages, such as anchor links, or removing parts of one's user lookup. I, as well as many other Neopians, think the Neopets HTML Guide could use some improvement. I'd probably even learn something new, if TNT did improve it! I've been on Neopets for six years now, and learned how to anchor pages just a few weeks ago. Learning it was so rewarding and fun! Okay, it really wasn't necessary for me to put fifteen anchor links on two pages of text, but boy was it cool!

A Guide To Users' Stats

I'm a working adult, and like most people, I always assume that I'm talking to a peer when I'm on the Neoboards. However, I always get shocked when I realize that most of the Neopian population is teenagers and that the person I'm talking to is fourteen years old! I guess I should learn to change my expectations, but I can't help myself. Everyone I speak to on the Neoboards is so literate, worldly and creative, something I'd expect of an adult, and not necessarily of a youngster. Congrats, Neopians, for being so witty, smart and fun! You blow my mind!

This is why I'd love to see a guide to users' stats, such as their age groups, genders, and other interesting personal aspects, linked on the Neopets splash page underneath the "Players On-line" info. What do you think?

Searchable Poetry/Storytelling Entries

I've published 115 poems in the Poetry Contest, and I'm quite proud of my total! Others have published multiple entries in the Storytelling Contest, and I applaud them too. However, our winning entries are not searchable, which worries me! Luckily, I've recorded every previous win on a petpage of mine, and I say "luckily" because it turns out there's no way to search the past entries of the Poetry Contest, and there's no way to search the Storytelling Contest either. What a shame! I would love for TNT to create a searchable guide of the winners of both contests.

A Guide To All The Pets You've Ever Owned

I think it would be cool to be able to see all the pets you've ever owned on your accounts! Perhaps TNT could make a link on the Neopian Pound where you could see every pet that's ever occupied a space on your account. I recently found a folder on my computer that held screenies of my old pets, and I have to admit, I got rather nostalgic over them. I remember when it was such a big deal for me to create Cybunnies (for free! wow!) in April of 2008. Many Cybunnies have come and gone from my accounts since then, but this one screenie did make me a bit teary-eyed and happy.

Conclusion

Thanks for reading my humble article, my fellow Neopians! It was interesting to learn about your passions and interests, and I think the Neopets website is all the better for having us as its users. We're intelligent, loquacious and fun, and I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than by talking to you all!

Do YOU have any suggestions about the ways in which the Neopets website could be improved? Drop me a line! I would love your input, especially if you're suggesting some kind of guide. I would love to write about your ideas in a future Neopian Times article!

Enjoy your week, and may all your hopes and dreams come to pass!
