An Interview with Farvin III

by brickgamer

--------

Today I had the incredible opportunity to meet and interview one of the most famous Alien Aishas out there, Farvin III. You may be familiar with him if you've ever played or watched a game of Gormball before. He was kind enough to let me interview him just in time before this year's Annual Gormball Championship, and without further ado here is my interview with Farvin III.

First and foremost, thank you for meeting me today. I'm a huge fan of yours.

Farvin III: No trouble at all. I'm glad to be here.

The Annual Gormball Tournament is almost upon us; how do you feel about this?

Farvin III: To be honest, I'm very excited and nervous at the same time. It's all I've been thinking of for the last year and I can't wait for it to begin. I've been preparing myself for it, but of course I always get a little nervous when it's time to play.

How have you been preparing for this year's championship?

Farvin III: I've been training really hard, practicing Gormball almost daily for the past year and I've been watching what I've been eating, just enough Gross food to keep me in shape for the upcoming tournament.

Do you have any tricks up your sleeve to win it all this year?

Farvin III: (laughs) Well, I try to be the best player that I can be every time I play, but the game itself can be very tricky. Timing is key when it comes to Gormball; you need to know how long you should hold onto the ball and when to pass it or else you're going to get soaked.

Farvin III you've been a runner up four times before finally winning the championship during Year 9; how did it feel to accomplish such an amazing goal?

Farvin III: Winning the championship was such an amazing feeling. I still consider it as the greatest moment in my life. I'm very proud of those times I placed second in those tournaments I mean just out lasting the competitors a great feeling but there's also a bit of disappointment that I got so close to winning Gold and I just wasn't good enough. I certainly proved myself to many Neopians out there that I've got what it takes to be a Gormball Champion.

Do you still remember that game in Year 9 very well?

Farvin III: I don't think I could ever forget such a glorious moment in my life;, it was definitely the most difficult Gormball match I've ever played. It was the final round against the back to back Gormball Champion, Ember the fire faerie, hoping to extend her reign as champion for a third year in a row. That was the moment for me since Ember beat me in the finals for two years in a row. Some would say that this was my last chance to prove myself that I can beat her in Gormball. I sensed that something was going to go wrong, my excellent hearing ability gave me a bit of an advantage because something was going to happen and I would rather not hold onto the Gormball when it occurs. With a stroke of luck I managed to throw it just in time before the lights went out, and when the power went back on, the Gormball already exploded on Ember.

What was the Celebration like?

Farvin III: It was an amazing experience! Being congratulated by many fans and fellow competitors was really something special. Ember even congratulated me after the tournament. Though she seemed upset, her words were sincere and it really meant a lot to me since the Ember/Farvin III rivalry was one of the biggest rivalries in Gormball history. I treated many Neopians at the Alien Vending Machine that night; honestly, I can't remember how many nerkmids I spent that night, but it didn't matter much. I also received many neomails for family and friends from where I came from congratulating me on my big win.

Oh, where do you come from, Farvin III?

Farvin III: Haha nice try! (laughs)

Hehe, it was worth a shot. How did you prepare for the tournament after that?

Farvin III: Well, after the celebration it was back to training for me, I mean after reaching my goal it only motivated me to do my best to stay as the Gormball champion for the years to come. Sadly I was a little distracted when it was finally time for the next tournament.

Oh, right, the last minute return of Dr. Sloth! What was that like?

Farvin III: Well, there was a lot of pressure from the fans and myself to do well that year since I was the returning Champion, after all. The crowd anticipated the match up against me and Ember already predicting that we would be in the finals again thus extending our great Gormball rivalry history. Then a surprising last minute substitution leads Dr. Sloth to win the whole thing! Ember and I didn't do that well that year.

Do you blame Dr. Sloth for your loss that year?

Farvin III: Not at all! As the champion I should've been prepared for anything that came in my way. If anything, I kind of blame myself for being distracted in that match. Of course I don't let that one mistake haunt me for the rest of my life; I move on and prepare for the next year's championship.

What an amazing story! Do you have any words for your fans that are also aspiring to become a great Gormball player like yourself?

Farvin III: Well, you've always got to practice this game as much as you can since you can't improve unless you keep on practicing. I'm not saying you should spend every waking moment playing, but you've got to make time for it since this game needs a lot of dedication. Finally you should never forget to have fun because if you're planning on becoming a Gormball player you should enjoy it! I mean, would we be doing this if we weren't having fun ourselves?

Those are some great inspiring words, Farvin III! Looks like that's all the time we have for this interview. Thanks again for giving me this opportunity and I wish you the best of luck. I'm sure you'll do great in this year's championship!

Farvin III: Any time! Thank you as well and for my fans out there I'll play my heart out for you; I can sense that this will be a great year for me.

Well, Neopia, looks like that's it for now. Let's hope Farvin III does well this year and I hope I see you all in the Annual Gormball Championship.
