Dressing the Part - Discovery of Meridell
As you set off down the woodland path out of Neopia Central at the end of the month of Swimming, you cannot help but feel a certain excitement in the air. Your fellow travelers are adorned with brilliant blue, red, and yellow garments, and in the distance you can hear a merry flute accompanied by the strumming of a lute and the regal boom of horns. At last, you reach your final destination—the spectacular kingdom of Meridell! That's right, it's time once again for the annual Discovery of Meridell festival.
Since King Skarl first founded Meridell, Neopians have come together each year to celebrate the kingdom's discovery with new cuisines from Merifoods, classic games at Meri Acres Farm, and shared stories of Meridell's greatest heroes and battles. With all the excitement, it's easy to get overwhelmed, and one of the biggest pressures for many Neopians is deciding what to wear to honor the kingdom that has restored peace and glory to Neopia time and time again. That's why I've created some stellar Meridellian looks to inspire your Discovery of Meridell Day customizations! Let's get started!
Look 1: The Fearless Knight
Items pictured: NC—Guarding the Gates Background, Jeran Collectors Sword, Regulation Meridellian Helmet, Regulation Meridellian Lowers, Regulation Meridellian Shield, Regulation Meridellian Chainmail, Shields and Weapons Garland, Marching Clockwork Jeran Foreground, Battle Thought Bubble. NP—Neopian Battlefield Legends Gloves (15,000 NP)*.
Meridell would have never become the great kingdom that it is today without the fearless knights who have defended it in not one but two wars. So why not pay homage to these great heroes by donning armor of your own? The Regulation Meridellian Knight Superpack is a great place to start! Though now retired from the NC Mall, the items from this pack were frequently given out in Gift Box Capsules, making them very easy to find. If you can't buy NC, Neopets Tabard (3,500 NP), Wicked Wocky Wobble Helmet (600 NP) and the Shiny Meridell Shield (5,000 NP) are all inexpensive Neopoint alternatives. Be sure to include a reference to your knightly pet's skill in battle, expressed here with the Shields and Weapons Garland. Finally, what Meridellian Knight look would be complete without reference to Meridell's greatest knight, Jeran? The Jeran Collectors Sword is a versatile, classic choice, and the Marching Clockwork Jeran Foreground will inspire your knight to march bravely into battle!
Look 2: Meridell Peasant
Items pictured: NC—Adorable Freckles, Mummy Wrapped Hands, Quizzical Whoot on a Branch, Braided Brown Wig, Autumn on the Farm Background. NP—Muddy Boots (100 NP), Basket of Berries (7,000 NP), Cornucopia Foreground (4,000 NP), Ultra Fashionable Potato Sack (1 NP).
Just outside of Meridell lies Meri Acres Farm, a quaint little village home to the famous Rubbish Dump and several classic Meridellian games. It seems only fitting that this small but essential part of Meridell be honored in your outfit! Start with a country background such as the Autumn on the Farm Background or the Kau Kau Farms Background (3,000 NP) to set the rustic tone for your look. The ultra-cheap Ultra Fashionable Potato Sack is the perfect outfit for any peasant, though the Wooden Barrel (9,000 NP) is another great choice. If you'd like your pet to be slightly more clothed, try the Striped Dueling Shirt (10,000 NP) is plain yet effective. Muddy Boots are a must for this homey look, as is a Basket of Berries fresh from Pick Your Own. Top it off with a cute wig and some Adorable Freckles and get ready to flaunt your simple but fitting look at the festival!
Look 3: Celebrating the Winner's Stand
Items pictured: NC—Meridell Team Cuffs, Rag Doll Yooyu Plushie, Altador Cup Floor, Spinning Altador Cup Star Belt, Altador Cup V MVP Cleats, Yooyuball News Ticker Foreground, Yooyu Ball Shower, Gilded Yooyuball Chalice, Meridell Altador Cup Jersey, Yooyuball Shoulder Padding, Fancy Blue Trousers, Face Full of Sweat Droplets, Smart School Girl Wig. NP—Altador Cup Background – Meridell (1,500 NP).
This year, Meridell made history by making it to the winner's stand in the Altador Cup! Earning a 3rd Place finish is Meridell's highest final rank yet, and you can bet that the Discovery of Meridell festival will be ripe with Neopians celebrating the kingdom's best AC year ever. Join in the celebration with your own "Meridell for the Cup" look! Even if you spent most of this past AC season sitting on the sidelines, you can still pay tribute to the team's success with your outfit. There are a couple different backgrounds displaying the Meridell banner, namely Altador Cup Background – Meridell and Altador Cup II Team Background – Meridell (6,000 NP). Since the NC Mall was launched it has featured dozens of team items each year, and the VIP passes have only increased this number, giving you a huge array of wearables to choose from. The Meridell Altador Cup Jersey is a must, as is the Yooyuball Shoulder Padding. Other items such as the Discarded Yooyuball Gear Foreground (94,000 NP) and Partially Inflated Yooyu Beach Ball (21,000 NP) make great trinkets for this winning look.
Look 4: Classic Royalty
Items pictured: NC—Pipe and Gear Crown, King Skarl Throne Background, Sovereignly Trousers, Royal Box Foreground, Floating Darigan Citadel, Plush Purple Velvet Tunic, Glittering Jewel Shower, Regal Gemstone Staff. NP—Royal Boy Kau Ruff (Paintbrush exclusive).
At last, we come to the most refined of Meridellian culture, those noble pets of King Skarl's Court who are truly the epitome of regality. Most of the Royal pets wear classic Meridellian garments, but you don't have to buy a Royal Paint Brush to make your pet look like a million Neopoints. Go for a luxurious ensemble such as the Plush Purple Velvet Tunic or the Fancy Pink Gown (800 NP), and be sure to top it off with a crown. Being royalty means assuming responsibility of the entire kingdom, so you might want to add a Darigan-related trinket so you can show your commitment to peace between the two lands and keep an eye on the (often suspicious) Citadel at the same time. A grand cloak is a must for any dignified pet, and either of the gold NC capes (Games Master Cape and Golden Cape) works wonderfully for a kingly pet. If your king is outside his castle, you may want to consider the Simple Fur Lined Cape (2,600 NP) to keep him stylish and warm. Finish this look with some glittering accessories like the Regal Gemstone Staff or the slightly more feminine Elegant Gemstone Wand.
These ideas are just a few of the spectacular options that you have for customizing your pets in the Meridellian fashion. The Meridell colors of Red, Blue, and Yellow can be found easily in many items throughout Neopia, so don't be afraid to use something that is not specifically Meridell-themed in your pet's ensemble. Whatever look you decide on for this year's Discovery of Meridell Day, remember that your outfit should channel the spirit of this great land: noble, courageous, and proud.
