The New House

by cat0_88

--------

The three sisters stared at the bland house, sitting squarely a busy area of Neopia Central. The hideous baby blue cottage, with the empty windows, the bright red chimney, and the plain wood door. And to top it off, it had three alien-looking circular windows on the roof.

It took a lot for them to keep their mouths shut as their owner Cat stared happily at it. As much as they all wanted to scream 'No! Take us back to Shenkuu where we belong!', none of them were heartless enough to crush the smile gracing Cat's face.

“Well?” Cat asked with an amount of enthusiasm that would put any cheerleader you could find to shame.

The three turned to look at each other, silently begging someone other than themselves to speak up. Coconut, the nice yellow Aisha, was finding it difficult to think up some lie to tell her.

“It's... quite nice,” she said, though it sounded more like a question, than a statement. She elbowed Diamond, a shadow Uni, who was standing next to her.

“Oh yes! It's a brilliant piece of architecture indeed!” she squealed, surprised by the sudden sharp jab to her side. The two sisters sent silent prayers to their sister Ninja, beseeching her to say something pleasant.

“Uh, yeah, I guess,” the checkerboard Poogle muttered distastefully, earning two harsh glares from her elder sisters. Cat either didn't seem to notice, or was just ignoring the comment.

“Well, let's head inside! I cannot wait to see what's in store!” Cat exclaimed loudly, before making tracks for the house.

A variation of the same thought floated through each of the sisters' heads; I can.

Upon entering through the dung-brown door, the family was faced with freshly polished plywood flooring that stretched throughout the household, and vomit-yellow walls, which, undoubted spread through the house as well.

The sight made Diamond want to cry. No surprise, seeing as she aspired to be an ultra-famous interior decorator, with a major eye for complementary colors.

Despite the sight of the unfurnished, hideously colored interior, the bright smile adorning Cat's face refused to falter.

“The movers should be here soon, and then we can unpack. But first, let's pick our rooms!” Cat's voice echoed throughout the empty space in front of them.

The room assignment went smoothly. None of the sisters were particularly in the mood to fight for the best room, seeing as they all looked the same, and had the same plain view.

After that, Cat suggest they go outside and get familiarized with the area. None of them had exactly felt like it, but they left without a word.

Once she was sure there would be no way Cat would hear them, Ninja exploded. “Why?! Why, why why!? Why did she force us to move into this dump?! We had a perfect home before; she had a perfect job before!” she howled.

As much as Coconut believed there would be no reasoning with her sister, she tried to help her relax. “Just calm down, okay? I'm sure she has a good reason for moving us here.”

“Do you really believe that?” Ninja asked, her voice twisting into a bitter snarl.

“Just shut up, okay? You're giving me a headache,” Diamond's voice rang through the temporary silence.

Coconut and Ninja stared at her. The eldest of the three had never spoken like that to anyone, let alone one of them. Ninja honestly felt like crying. Everything was beginning to get just a tad overwhelming.

Coconut pulled her close as a single, near invisible, tear crawled down her cheek.

Diamond glared at the ground beneath them, wishing it would open up and swallow her whole. She had never raised her voice, and she hadn't planned on ever doing it. The house must have been something special, to drive her to do it.

The three walked in silence until they reached the Bazaar, filled with people running about, lots of aimless chatter, and the sounds of doors opening and closing.

Something caught each sister's attention. A shop for each that just seemed to call to them.

Diamond couldn't help her eyes from wandering over to a gingerbread-looking building with a delicate sign claiming to be the 'Bakery'.

Coconut, on the other hand, saw a helmet-shaped building, with shields on either side. It didn't take much to gather that it was Battle Magic.

Ninja stared across the bustling Bazaar at a fancy blue building, with a large 'U' on the front. Clothing was a passion of hers, so it was no surprise that she'd been drawn toward Uni's Clothing.

Without a word the sisters parted ways, each heading to her own destination.

After thirty or so minutes, Diamond found herself sitting on an empty patch of grass munching on a orchid shaped sugar cookie, complete with lilac and pink icing.

Upon exiting Battle Magic with a shopping bag full of various pointy objects, Coconut spied her sister, and fought her way through the crowd.

“Feeling better?” her sister asked through a mouthful of cookie.

“I guess. Sharp objects do have a way of making me happier,” Coconut replied, with a delicate chuckle following shortly after.

Diamond smiled before reaching into a small brown bag and producing a doughnut with a baby blue glaze on it, and handing it to her sister, who happily took a bite.

“I better be getting something,” Ninja said in a faux-jealous tone, plopping down beside Diamond, simultaneously dropping two shopping bags to the ground beside her.

“Why, of course, dear sister,” Diamond said with a giggle, before handing a chocolate cupcake to her sister, who graciously accepted.

The trio sat there for a while, happily munching on various types of sweets and talking about all sorts of odd neopets they had seen wandering around.

After that, the sisters wandered around, checking out the various other stores.

It was getting dark when they decided it was time to call it quits.

Armed with several more shopping bags than before, the three headed home, with a feeling of dread lingering in the pits of their stomachs.

What they saw next was surprising, to say the least. Upon opening that plain brown door, the girls were greeted by a surprise. Their home was fully furnished. And stylishly at that!

A large, rectangular wine rug was spread, in the centre of the room, with complemented the newly re-wallpapered walls, which were also that deep red.

Their old furniture had been fashionably placed throughout the living room, and probably throughout the rest of the house as well.

Diamond, however, upon entering her room was greeted by Fancy Gold wallpaper, which went well with her room's mainly yellow color scheme.

The same went for Coconut as well. The writer was faced with Blue Silk wallpaper that gave off a very Neovian feel.

And for Ninja? Pink and purple Faerieland wallpaper, which she loved to no end.

After putting away their purchases, the sisters made their way back into the living room, where they found their owner perched on a couch reading Altador at a Glance, her favourite paper.

“Well? How do you like it now?” she asked in her usual chipper voice.

The sisters felt no obligation to lie. They loved whatever she had done with the house.

“I love it!” Coconut cried gleefully.

“It's amazing! I can't believe you were able to coordinate everything so well!” Diamond exclaimed, intending it to be taken as a compliment.

“Yeah, for someone who's blinder than a bat when it comes to color, you sure did a heck of a job!” Ninja stated happily.

That night, instead of having dreams longing to go back home, the three sisters had brilliant dreams about all the new adventures they were going to have in their new town. In their new home.
