All About Baby Pets!

by aggirl169

--------

So here you are, minding your own business when all of a sudden Boochi comes out of nowhere and zaps your precious Grey Uni into a Baby Uni! Confused and angry, you shake your fist at the evil-yet-adorable Baby Bruce as he runs away giggling. You turn to your newly pint-sized pet and can’t help but smile at this adorable creature. As the two of you walk home, you can’t help but wonder, “How am I going to raise a Baby Pet?” Well, don’t you worry, because this guide is made especially for you!

The Basics:

1. Food

As you look through shops looking for food for your pal, you don’t know what to choose! Before this loony zap, you were feeding your Uni whatever you had on hand, omelettes, jelly and the occasional Blumaroo steak. Now, however, you have to be much more careful with the diet of your growing pal. Fortunately for you, there are five different types of baby food, made especially for your pet, available on the market! The names and approximate prices of these foods are as follows: Lemon Meringue Baby Food (121 NP), Forest Fruit Baby Food (131 NP), Strawberries and Cream Baby Food (139 NP), Beef and Veg Baby Food (142 NP), and Pea and Ham Baby Food (302 NP). You of course could feed your Baby Pet other foods, but if you do that, they might end up looking like Dr. Sloth...

2. Clothes

You walk through the door of your Neohome, a bag filled to the brim with different types of baby food in each hand, and you stop dead in your tracks. You see your adorable Baby Uni sleeping on your couch, and you realize that your Baby Uni has no clothes! You quickly put the baby food in the refrigerator and run out to the mall to get some clothes for your Uni! When your pet was a Grey Uni, you had a nearly unlimited amount of clothes that you were able to choose from, hats, shoes, shirts, etc.

However, now that you have a Baby Uni, the options you have are much narrower. Some pets, unlike the Uni come with clothing when they are turned into a Baby. Other than the clothes that some Baby Pets come with, there are currently only two other actual clothing options for your Baby Pet. The first is the Valentine Baby Bonnet and the Valentine Baby Dummy; both of these items are retired NeoCash items. Other items that Babies can wear are backgrounds, foregrounds, banners, etc. Since Babies are smaller than the average Neopet, they are not able to wear most things that are actually on their bodies, such as wands and dresses. Most other items that do not touch your pet’s body are fair game, however.

3. Toys

After you have finally gotten back to your Neohome and dressed your Baby Pet, you lie down on your couch and try to fall asleep after this tiring day. You suddenly hear your cute little Baby Uni crying. Puzzled, you rush to their side and try to comfort them, but it doesn’t work. You look around for something to distract your pet, but you cannot find anything. You then remember that you haven’t bought any toys for them! You get up and grab your Neopoints, ready to head out to the Toy Shop. Just before you open the door, however, you realize that you have no clue about what type of toys are safe for Baby Pets, and what type of toys they like!

Baby Pets are usually very fun loving and curious, but they are only babies, so you have to be careful about what you give to them (this means nothing from Darigan Toys). Colorful plushies and other soft things with few or no small pieces are great for Baby Pets. If you are not sure if a toy is safe or not, don’t give it to your Baby Pet, please; it is better safe than sorry.

Extra Things:

1. The Neolodge

If you ever feel like your Baby Pet deserves a vacation, the Neolodge is a great choice. Choosing the right hotel is a bit harder, though. If you choose to let them stay in Cockroach Towers, they might hang out with the wrong crowd and come home rough and tough. If you choose to let your pet stay at the other end of the spectrum, the AstroVilla, you are risking them turning a tad snobby and spoiled.

The best choice out of all the hotels for a Baby Pet is the Faerie Castle. Faeries are known for being kind, especially towards Babies. This hotel provides a great and safe environment for your pet, and there are sure to be other Babies staying there too. When you are booking their stay, you should include the following extras: Restaurant, Maid Service, En-Suite Bathroom, Grooming, and Laundry Facilities to ensure that your Baby is taken care of during their time at the hotel.

2. Books

Just because your pet is a Baby does not mean that it is too early for them to start building up their intelligence. In fact, the Neopet that has read the most books, KrazyKookabatoo, is a Baby! The more you read to your Baby Pet, the smarter it will become. Learning is a great thing and it helps your Baby Pet’s future. A high intelligence also means that they will be able to do more things on their own, which means that you will have more time to rest, because raising a Baby Pet can be quite a tiring, but rewarding, task!

3. Training

So you want to start training your Baby Pet so that you can win all of those shiny Battledome avatars? There are quite a few precautions you have to take though when you are training a Baby Pet for battling. First off, zap training your Baby Pet is definitely not encouraged. This action could scar your Baby for a long time, and you never know what you are going to get when you zap them; they could turn into a frog!

The two most popular options other than the Lab Map are Dubloon Training and Codestone Training. The best option for Baby Pets is Codestone Training for many reasons. First off, Pirates are not the best influences for Baby Pets; just imagine being a little Neopet and being taught how to fight by these somewhat-scary creatures. Also, Dubloon Training takes a longer time than Codestone Training, and Babies are not known for having long attention spans, so the shorter the intervals the better. Mystery Island is also a great and safe environment for your pet to learn how to fight in the Battledome but still be peaceful and respectful at home.

Hopefully you have learned a thing or two about raising Baby Pets from this article. Don’t worry, raising a Baby gets easier with time, and before you know it you will find it is just like raising any other pet!
