The Magical Faellie

“Calm down, Ello!” Chris the green Shoyru exclaimed.

Ello the pink Faellie halted to a stop and faced her owner. “Sorry, Chris,” she panted, “I have a lot of energy.”

“Well, maybe you could put that energy to use and help me here,” Chris huffed tiredly. In front of him on a wooden desk were fifty different sized vials. Each vial had a brightly colored liquid inside, and Chris held a big black cauldron.

Ello sat down on Chris’s shoulders and eyed each vial. She was a bit nervous to break something because of her unusually small size for Faellies, and her recklessness. Ello was about the size of an orange, thin and with sharp fangs.

“So what are you doing right now?” Ello asked.

“I’m trying to create a potion for the ‘make your own potion’ contest. It has to be original, and I’m not allowed to look at any spell or magical potion books,” Chris answered.

“So would I not be allowed to help?” Ello questioned.

“Well, the rules said I can't have other neopets' help,” Chris replied. He took a green circular shaped vial and poured it in the pot. “I hope I win; the winner of this contest gets to meet Kauvara herself!”

Ello could see the excitement on Chris’s face and immediately knew this was important to him. Kauvara was his idol; he wanted to be a famous potion maker just like her. “Alright then!” Ello exclaimed. “Let’s get concocting!”

After two hours of hard potion mixing work, Chris had finally come up with his own potion. His potion was a bright electric blue, and made a fizz noise without the lid on.

Chris looked at it, with a proud smile on his face. “And now for the complicated part,” he stated.

Ello slightly spit out her apple juice when she heard this. “Complicated part? What complicated part?” she demanded.

“I have to test out my potion. If it’s no good, I won’t win the contest,” Chris answered Ello.

“Wait, Chris, what if something happens? What is your potion supposed to do, anyway?”

“It’s supposed to turn any neopet into a petpet for ten minutes, and any petpet into a neopet for ten minutes. Then after ten minutes they poof back to being a neopet again. It’s simple.”

“Oh, all right, drink the potion,” Ello allowed.

Chris hesitated for one moment, but then drank half the potion down. He then put his paw on his stomach, and coughed once.

“Do you feel okay?” Ello asked.

“I feel... okay,” Chris stammered. Just then Chris’s whole body began to shake vigorously! A flash of orange surrounded him and then- POOF!

“Chris!” Ello screamed, worried. Suddenly, right in front of her sat a Meepit. “You turned yourself into a Meepit?” Ello demanded. “I can’t believe it! It worked, Chris! You did it!”

Ello and Chris cheered. Their potion was a success. “Now you have to drink the potion, Ello,” Chris told her.

     “What? Why?”

“Because I need to see if the potion works on petpets. I want to see if you turn into a neopet!”

Ello eyed the half empty potion. “Oh... okay,” she mumbled uneasily. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to turn into a neopet; she loved being a Faellie.

But Chris was counting on her, so she gathered up her courage and took a small sip of the potion. Ello pursed her lips from the taste; the potion was like a sour Jumble berry mixed with bread fish. Yuck!

“How do you feel?” Chris asked.

“I- I- I... WHOA!” Ello exclaimed. She then shot up in the air, and bounced off the walls so fast you couldn’t see her!

     “Ello! Calm down!” Chris yelled.

“I can’t control myself! I’m out of control!” Ello yelped.

“Oh no, this potion has gone wrong! I’ve got to fix this,” Chris said. He then used his Meepit feet to jump up on the table of vials. “Oh man, I don’t know what potion or mixture could fix this,” Chris sighed.

Finally Ello halted to a stop, and she crashed into the cauldron! “I think this potion has an aftereffect for petpets. I hope you’re still a regular Meepit,” Ello moaned. She climbed out of the cauldron and froze-

Chris lay there on the desk unconscious. He wasn’t dead because his chest still moved from his breathing, but he looked like he was out cold.

“Oh no! The potion knocked you out!” Ello squeaked. She let herself fall back into the cauldron, and she crossed her arms. “How can I fix this?” she wondered.

Ello then jumped out of the cauldron and on the table! Her eyes were shining gold with determination, her mind set on what to do! “I may not be familiar with all these potions and spells. But Chris is in trouble and I have to help him! I will create another potion!”

So off went Ello, quickly taking each vial in her paw and examining it. Vial after vial, bottle after bottle, Ello poured into the cauldron. She took a giant wooden spoon and stirred her mixture, adding more and more vials each time.

Finally, there were only three funny looking vials left on the wooden desk. Ello stared at all three, wondering which one she should take.

Then Ello decided to take the middle vial. It was in a tube container, and was bright apple red. Before pouring in the potion Ello noticed a little paper on the bottle. It read:

Use extreme caution! Only one use!

“Well, I hope this works,” Ello sighed. She poured the potion in her batch and it bubbled and spewed. Taking out a spoonful, Ello flew to Chris and shoved some down his throat! “Turn Chris back to normal!” Ello squeaked.

Chris started to flinch all over, and his eyes shot open. Ello flew a couple feet back, not knowing what would happen next.

Thankfully, a light flashed and there was Chris, returned to his fully conscious green Shoyru self. “I’m not a Meepit anymore!” Chris exclaimed happily.

“You’re fixed!” Ello squealed. She flew on Chris’s shoulders, and cooed cheerfully.

“Wow, my potion must’ve had the side effect of making petpets go around the room crazy, and knocking neopets out. How did I return to normal?”

“I spent the whole night making a potion to fix you. I’m so glad it worked,” Ello answered.

“Wow, that’s incredible; you did it by yourself,” Chris complimented. He looked at the empty vials Ello used, then finally sighed.

Ello took immediate notice to his sigh and asked, “What’s the matter?”

“I don’t know what to do now. The judges for the contest will be here in three hours, and I don’t know what potion I should make.”

“Hmm,” Ello thought aloud, “I’ll help you, and we can do this.”

     Exactly three hours later...

Chris stood in the Art Center caves along with twenty other Neopians, awaiting the judges to critique their potion.

There were three judges, Mr. Green the yellow Kacheek, Ms. Yellow the green Kacheek, and the great and respected Kauvara herself. The first two judges' opinion counted, but Kauvara’s decision was the final decision.

They walked down to Grady the Ixi, who was just before Chris. “Hello there,” Grady stammered nervously.

“Hello, young one. What do you have for us today?” Kauvara asked, giving a warm smile.

“This is a potion I made. I call it the tie potion,” Grady introduced, taking his hoof and holding up the potion. “This potion makes a tie appear around your neck.” To demonstrate, Grady then took a sip of the potion, and as said a yellow and orange striped tie appeared around his neck.

The two Kacheeks nodded, and Kauvara’s smile got bigger. “My, what an imagination you have. This spell is certainly for Neopians who like to party,” Kauvara complimented.

Now it was Chris’s turn. Kauvara gave him a smile and said, “You’re our last contestant, and maybe you’ll have something for a grand finale.”

“Maybe,” Chris replied. He then held up his potion. “This is a transformation potion. Those Neopians who have painted themselves a color and want to go back to their original form, or ones who got turned into something ugly, can use this potion. Observe.”

Just then a mutant Usul limped from the corner. She was drooling a disgusting substance, and everyone but Chris in the room got a slight grimace on their face. “Ra ru gersh mlug blug,” the Usul grumbled.

“Behold, a mutant Usul. Now we shall turn her into her original form,” Chris then said. He took the potion and had the mutant Usul drink it. The Usul twitched and began to shake vehemently, and then POOF!

There stood Ello, smiling in the air. “Hello, everyone,” Ello greeted.

“My petpet is now back to normal!” Chris proclaimed proudly.

Kauvara and the other two judges nodded, and thought for a few minutes. “Did you make this potion by yourself?” Mr. Green asked.

“Well, uh... see, what happened was-,”

     “Yes,” Ello confirmed, interrupting Chris.

“Really?” Ms Yellow questioned, one brow raising.

“No,” Chris answered. “My Faellie helped me. In fact, she’s the one that came up with this idea, not me.”

“A Faellie came up with this idea?” Kauvara asked.

     “Yes, ma’am,” Chris answered.

Kauvara eyed Ello. “You’ve got a touch for magic, huh? Very peculiar.”

“We’re sorry, Chris, you are disqualified for having help,” Mr. Green announced.

“Wait just a minute! The rules state that he cannot have help from another neopet. The rules never said a petpet couldn’t help him. I say his potion was the best tonight. And since this is my competition, I declare Chris and his petpet Ello the winners!”

“Yes!” Ello and Chris cried happily. Everyone started cheering, as Chris and Ello danced around the room.

“You’ve got a magical Faellie there, Chris.” Kauvara smiled.

“Yep. She’s Ello, my magic Faellie.”
