The Perfect Pound Pet!

by amysmother_8

--------

If you're looking for a new family member or a “lab partner” (I don’t think pets like the term “lab rat”), then the pound is the right place for you!

Well, I know some of you may be asking yourself, “Why should I go adopt a pet when I can create my own?” Well, there are many fantastic pets in the pound looking for loving homes. The pets that haven’t been created yet don’t know what they’re missing.

On the other hand, if you were to go ask all of the thousands of pets in the pound what they're missing, they would answer, “A loving family.”

You don’t know how long a particular pet has been in the pound; it could have been for a few hours, or a few months, or maybe even a few years. Pound pets are desperate to be taken in and cared for. They will probably be even more loving than a newly created pet, because they will never want to go back to the pound again! Pets are pounded for many different reasons; they have a bad name, people wanted room for a new pet, or new players may not know how to care for them and pound.

Now that we’ve learned a little bit about these poorly abandoned pets, let's find out which one you should pick!

Now don’t judge a neopet by their name. I know that some of them have names like ahfys48s6, but they can’t help what name they were given! If you are one of those players who don’t care about names at all, then by all means adopt a pet with a name like this. The pets with these names are almost never adopted, because they don’t have formable names. With a little creativity, though, I’m sure you could make up a nickname for them!

Another type of pet that doesn’t get adopted a lot is a pet with underscores or numbers in their name. Well, I for one have FIVE pets with one of these things in their name. I don’t mind that my xweetok’s name is peachie__26; I just call her Peachie. I don’t see how these are that big of a deal, but for some reason they are. If you don’t mind them, though, I’m sure pets with these names will appreciate you adopting them.

Now of course some of the easier pets to adopt out are pets with nice understandable names like Cocoabeane. Most people think a very well-named pet has the first letter in the name capitalized, has no numbers or underscores, and has it be spelt correctly and understandable. When you're on the pound board and see people trading pets, most of the time they want pets with these types of names. On the pound board these names are known as well-named or very well-named pets.

The pets that usually doesn’t stay in the pound for very long at all are painted pets. Painted pets are pets with colors other than the basic blue, yellow, green, or red. Or in the Grundo’s basic colored case, red, green, yellow, blue, purple, brown, or white. These pets are usually snatched up very fast by “pound surfers.” They are people who refresh the pound a lot looking for these types of pets. I’ve seen many different wonderful colors, striped, mutant, island, checkered and so many more. Most of the time, though, these pets get traded around for the person’s real dream pet. So if you see your true dream pet, go for it!

So you’ve picked out your pet and paid, now what? Well, most of the pets in the pound are usually starving, so I’d get their bellies full. Some pets also could have some sort of illness, so I’d try to cure it as quick as possible. If you can’t afford the right treatment, go visit the Healing Springs in Faerieland, and I’m sure your pet will get cured eventually. If you can’t wait, you can always go buy the treatment.

If you decide that this will be one of your permanent family members, then make sure to give them a home, food, toys, books, clothes, and anything else your new pet desires. Don’t forget to paint them a cool color if they aren’t painted; it will give them a major confidence boost! If you know you won’t be able to feed your neopet a certain day, then please do try to place them in the neolodge. Your pet will be fed and well taken care of by the lovely staff and the rooms can be very affordable for people with a tight budget.

Now I adopt most pets from the pound and become “lab partners” with them. If you would like to do this, then you will need to have purchased all nine pieces of the secret laboratory map. I foster the pet while I take them to the lab every day, and wait for them to change into a pretty color. Once they are a nice color, I pound them. Now I know you're saying, “How could you? That’s cruel!” Well, if you’ve been paying attention, you’ll remember that painted pets are the quickest ones to be adopted.

I make a pound time for my pet and post it on my lookup; that way my pets aren’t in the pound for long. Usually as soon as I do this, they are snatched up in seconds. If you would like to give non-painted pets a better chance, why not adopt them and make them pretty! You could also look for the perfect owner for that pet and use your transfer option in the pound.

I also think it’s a nice idea to give your pet their very own petpet! It’s nice for them to have a little buddy by their side experiencing these moments with them. There are many affordable petpets; some are even given away around Neopia! If you’d like their petpet to look more interesting, you can paint them, or get them their very own petpet lab ray! When I pound any pet, I always make sure they have a petpet with them.

So now I hope you see all of the wonderful pluses you get when you adopt from the pound instead of creating a pet. Of course, the pets yet to be created shouldn’t feel left out. One gets created almost every time someone new joins neopets, or when a person doesn’t think the pound is the right choice for them. But either way is okay, whether you decide to create or adopt, because every day deserving pets are getting loving families and that’s what counts!
