Are You Destined For A Trophy?

Dice of Destiny is a game that requires mostly luck, but also a touch of strategy if you want to master it.

Each round you start off with a set number of rolls. Every time you roll, you have the chance to clear the numbers at the top in any combination that adds up to the sum of the dice. For instance, if you roll a six, you can clear 6; or 5 and 1; or 4 and 2; or 3, 2, and 1. You want to clear the numbers 1 through 9 with as few rolls as possible.

The starting number of rolls you get for each round is:

Round 1: 20 rolls

Round 2: 17 rolls

Round 3: 15 rolls

Round 4: 12 rolls

Round 5: 10 rolls

A score above 695 is enough to earn a bronze trophy, above 710 for a silver, and above 1,000 for a gold. There are only ten rounds. Including the bonus stages. The maximum you can get for the regular rounds is 100 points, so you need to score big in the bonus rounds to get a high score. Whenever playing, check what the current high scores are so you know what your goal needs to be. The highest score possible is 1,040.

In the regular round, you have two goals. The first is to actually clear all the numbers. It’s game over if you run out of rolls and still have numbers left. The second is, again, to use as few rolls as possible.

In order to make sure you clear all the numbers, you’ll need to get the big ones — 7, 8, and 9 — out of the way first. They’re the hardest to clear because the dice only go up to six so it requires rolling two dice. No matter what you roll, you want to clear the biggest numbers you can. If you roll a nine first, clear the nine. If you roll a twelve first, clear the 9 and then the 3. You don’t want to clear the 1 and 2 in this case because you may need those to help clear the other big numbers. Rolling ten, eleven, and twelve can help clear the big numbers, but only if you have small ones to pair with them.

Keep rolling two dice until you have the three big numbers cleared and the remaining numbers add up to less than twelve. This is the point in the game that requires the most strategy. Do you roll one die or two? To decide this, you need to know what the probabilities are of getting a certain roll with one die and with two.

One die probabilities:

One, two, three, four, five, or six: 16.67%

Two dice probabilities:

Two: 2.78%

Three: 5.56%

Four: 8.33%

Five: 11.11%

Six: 13.89%

Seven: 16.67%

Eight: 13.89%

Nine: 11.11%

Ten: 8.33%

Eleven: 5.56

Twelve: 2.78%

If you only have the 4 left and are rolling one die, you have a 16.67% chance of clearing it. With two dice, that drops down to 8.33%. When you’re clearing one final number 6 or under, roll one die. The odds are always better. Always keep in mind that if all you have left to clear is a 1, you can only get it with one die.

Let’s say you have a 4 and 5 left to clear. If you’re only rolling one die, you need a four or a five. Each roll gives you a 33.34% chance of getting clearing a number. If you’re rolling two dice, you need a four, five, or a nine. This gives you a 30.55% chance of clearing a number. The odds are lower, but you have the chance of clearing both numbers with one roll. The choice is up to you. This scenario is true for any two numbers that add up to seven, eight, nine, ten, or eleven.

If the two numbers you have left to clear add up to less than six, the percentage of getting something with two dice is much lower than if they add up to seven or more. I recommend rolling only one die.

Now let’s say you have a 1, 2, and 6 to clear. Rolling one die, you have a 50% chance of clearing something. With two, you have a 52.79% chance of clearing something and you may use less dice rolls to boot. Go with rolling two dice and re-evaluate what to do when you clear any of the numbers. This scenario is true for any numbers that add up to nine, ten, or eleven.

If the three numbers you have left to clear add up to eight, the percentage of getting something with two dice is about even to rolling one. The choice is yours again. Less than eight, you should roll one die.

If you are down to one roll and have two or more numbers left to clear, always hit the “roll 2 dice” button, even if the odds are worse. It’s the only way to get both numbers in one roll and avoid a game over.

A perfect round takes four rolls to clear all the numbers. There are a few combinations of four dice rolls that will give you a perfect round, but you need to be extremely lucky to get them. Try to get as close to four rolls per regular round as possible and you’ll be in good shape for a high score.

Don’t worry about clicking the roll buttons too fast. The game won’t let you roll again until you’ve cleared numbers any you’re able to.

After every regular round, you can gain access to the bonus round if you have at least one roll left. Any rolls you have leftover from the previous round will be used in the bonus round. If you only used eight rolls in round one, you’ll have twelve rolls in the round 1 bonus stage. This is why you always want to use as few rolls in the regular rounds as possible - so you get more bonus round rolls.

There’s no strategy in the bonus round, so just click the “roll 2 dice” button as fast as you can and hope you get lucky. You’ll get ten points for matching green dice (eye), five points for matching yellow dice (upside-down cross with a semicircle), and lose ten points for matching red dice (flags). Any mix of colors and you get zero points for that roll.

There are six possible outcomes for dice rolls in the bonus round: green/green, yellow/yellow, red/red, green/yellow, green/red, and yellow/red. Because the average totals points these dice give is greater than zero, you should earn more points in the bonus round than you lose. To get a bronze trophy, you’ll need to average 40 points per bonus round.

My usual final hint for all luck-based games is to let your mind wander. I’ve found that when I’m not concentrating on the game, but instead listening to the radio or watching a movie, I do a lot better. Even though there’s a lot of strategy to think about, you never want to start second-guessing yourself. That’s when you make mistakes.

Just remember, you can do everything right and still not get on the high score list. Don’t get discouraged. Like I said in the beginning, this game involves a lot of luck; it could take months of trying. Just keep playing and one day you’ll be amazed by how perfectly everything goes!
