Cheat! – It's All about LOGIC

by angel_of_heaven84

--------

“Cheat!” is one of the easiest ways to earn a trophy on Neopets in my opinion. I will share a method which I use which I feel will greatly increases the speed of winning the game.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

“Cheat!” is a game based on the 52 cards of the Poker deck. For those who don’t know what a Poker Deck is, the Poker deck is separated into 4 parts (spades, clubs, hearts, diamond), and EACH part contains the numbers 1 to 10, King, Queen, Jack, Ace. There is also the Joker card which is not shown in the “Cheat!” game.

Other general info about the game:

1. Main objective – be the first to get rid of all the cards in your hand

2. Every player discards their cards in a pile. Whoever is caught cheating will have to take all the cards that are in the pile.

3. If you have multiple cards of the same number in your hand, you can get rid of them all together. However, you can only play the card number which is the same, one higher, or one smaller of a card than the one(s) just played. Supposedly if Spectre played an 8 – you can only play with 7, 8 or 9.

4. If you have no choice but to cheat, make an intelligent guess (more explained later).

5. If you identify the cheater, you can get NP for it.

6. If you win the current level, you may advance to the next level, otherwise you have to restart the level all over again.

There are 7 levels in total for the game. Trophies are given out in the following order:

Bronze – level 3

Silver – level 5

Gold – level 7

KEY PLAYERS

There are 9 key players in this game. With each advancing level, the player on the most left will disappear. For example, Capara will “disappear” in level 2, Little Timmy in level 3 and so on. You might need to get used to the game at first, but as the game progresses, it’s pretty simple really. Apart from Spectre, the other players are basically just “small fry”.

Capara the Kyrii

[Description] Capara uses all her feminine wiles and amazing intelligence to trick her way to the top, however it hasn't worked yet... she is a hopeless cheater and nearly always loses.

[Commentary] I lost the first game once to her, but that was the only time I ever lost the game since. Like what the description says, she’s a hopeless cheater.

Little Timmy the Tuskaninny

[Description] Timmy is very young and inexperienced. He started playing Cheat as he thought it would make him look cool... however, he is pretty useless at it, to be honest.

Branston the Eyrie

[Description] Branston is the lord of the dance floor, and when he isn't strutting his stuff, he loves to gamble. Self-obsessed and egotistical, Branston's mind tends to wander, so he isn't the best player in the world. He has been known to throw down his cards and leave in a huff in the middle of a game.

[Commentary] While the leaving part is not true in the game, based on my experience, if you play 3 of the same cards or more, chances are you’ll attract Chuffer or Branston to accuse you of cheating (but if you’re telling the truth, they will get the pile).

Chuffer Bob the Meerca

[Description] Chuffer is a good player, but his voracious appetite often gets the better of him. When he is hungry, he can't concentrate, and this leads him to fidget. People like to play against Chuffer Bob because it's easy to know when he is cheating!

Brucey B

[Description] Brucey B is a Bingo caller by nature, but in his nights off he likes to play the odd game of Cheat. Still learning, but by no means a beginner, Brucey will catch you out with the old triple-bluff maneuver. He also tends to hide his cards under the table, so you will not know he has won until the last minute!

Kalora the Kau

[Description] Kalora is on holiday, and has decided to take in a few games of Cheat to earn some money. She considers herself an above-average player, and she knows when to quit! Her left ear sometimes twitches when she is cheating... but then again, you never can tell!

Princess Fernypoo

[Description] Young and spoilt, Princess Fernypoo is not accustomed to losing. Back in her father's castle, anybody who beat her at any game would soon be thrown in the moat. Now the young Acara has left home and does not have her father to protect her any more.

Agent 00 Hog

[Description] Cool, suave, and sophisticated, Agent 00 Hog has nerves of steel, and the ability to hide even the most blatant of cheats beneath a stern poker face. The ladies love him, and he is nearly unbeatable at whatever he chooses to play... do you accept the challenge?

Spectre

[Description] The self-appointed, undisputed ruler of cheat. When his red eyes are staring at you, you can just feel them scanning your every movement... watching every move in your face. If you cheat, he will know, there is no doubt about that. Spectre is a Neopian millionaire, and only ventures out of his mansion when inexperienced players are up for a fleecing.

[Commentary] At the beginning, Spectre will seem like a seasoned player, never getting caught and not “lying”, and his cards only seem to diminish in number. Don’t let it intimidate you, though! As it gets closer to the end of the game, Spectre seem to lose his mind and start making silly guesses.

GENERAL TIPS

There will NEVER be more than 4 of the same card name in the game. For example: if you have 3 “Aces”, and someone else plays 2 “Aces”, it is obvious they are cheating!

If another player is down to his last card, accuse him of cheating when it’s your turn. There’s a chance that he’s cheating, and this will buy you more time.

I divide the paper into 5 columns – 1 for the pile, 1 for myself and 3 for the other 3 players. This keeps track of who has put what card in the pile. Whenever someone gets the pile, I cancel the cards under the pile column.

WHICH PLAYER HAS WHICH CARDS? SILENT TIPS

I identify cards which I am positively sure are there as it is, and cards which other players claim they have put in a circle.

The game also gives out several “hints”, obvious only to the ones who are really observant. Here’re a few examples:

1. If Spectre really does put 3 “Kings” into the pile, and Capara wrongly accuses him, she will get the pile. You now know that Capara definitely has 3 “Kings” in her hand now.

2. If someone puts in 2 of the same cards in the pile but no one accuses them of lying, (and you don’t have any of the same numbered card in your hand), it shows that no one has 3 of the same cards in their hand.

3. If Spectre catches Capara lying that she has 3 of the same cards in her hand, chances are HE has at least 2 of the same card in HIS hand.

I HAVE TO CHEAT – WHAT NOW?

Try not to cheat whenever you can. If you have to, make intelligent guesses to increase the chances of not getting caught. If you do keep good record of the cards, and you know (for example) Capara definitely has 4 aces in her hand, please DON’T put “Aces” in your guess. You’ll definitely be discovered!

CONCLUSION

“Cheat!” is a fun game that tests one’s mental thoughts, rewards NP, avatars and trophies easily. It’s definitely a worthwhile game to play.
