Guide to a Successful Guild War

by alisha_119

--------

What an adrenaline rush Two Player Battling can be! If you've felt the thrill, there's a good chance you'll find yourself looking for more and ultimately find your username sitting in a Battledome guild anticipating how well your pet is going to do in the next guild war. There are, however, a few things you'll need to know before signing up in your guild's roster.

We should start off with a few common words/phrases and their meanings:

Guild War:

An activity in which two or more guilds get together to fight in two player battles.

(There have been one player wars, but for the sake of this article, we'll stick to two player wars.)

War Rules:

A set of of rules by which both guilds have agreed to war by: Could include, but is not limited to, freeze options as well as healing options.

Guild Requirements:

Most good battle guilds will have a set of requirements that you must meet in order to join and participate in guild wars. This is usually based on your pet's stats and set value.

Stats:

Your pet's stats are usually determined by adding your pet's strength, hitpoints, and defense.

Movement, level, and intelligence are not usually a factor here.

Set:

This term is used when referring to the weapons you have equipped to your pet.

War Board:

A message board that is usually set up in the Battledome Boards that is used to find your opponents in the opposing guild as well as keep score.

Roster:

A list of all members participating in the war that usually lists the pet's name, owner, and league or boost.

That should be enough to give you a basic understanding of the terms used in this guide. If you need more help, you can always find a board in the Battledome boards and feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

Rules

------

First you will need to make yourself aware of the rules for the war which you are planning to join. You may have made the common assumption that all war rules are the same. This is not true! Rules make the biggest difference in the two player realm. Make sure you, without a doubt, know and understand all your guild's war rules. Having a clear and precise set of rules could make the difference in a day of fun and a day of headache. Also, beware that every war's rules could be different, even if you remain in the same guild. If you should have any questions, no matter how lame you might think they sound, ask your guild leader. They are there to help you and are depending on you to help make the war fun and smooth running.

War Requirements

------

These are usually the same as the guild's requirements to join, but if someone has been kind enough to let you in their guild with little to no stats or set, you should ask them if they think you are ready before signing up on the roster. A good guild leader will know their members as well as what they are capable of. They won't send you out into a losing battle to get slaughtered with a 40 total stat pet sporting a scarab ring set. This becomes common sense after a while. You'll get the hang of it in no time, but until then, always losing is probably one of the most common ways to lose your interest in battling. Be prepared.

On the War Board

------

So you know your rules. You have your pet all trained up and ready to roll. Now comes show time.

Wars are a busy time and it's easy to become nervous. Here are a few handy tips to help you out before hand:

*Do not post on the war board until you are absolutely ready to fight. Most guilds require posting battlers to accept challenges as soon as they come in. If you need to take a few minutes to observe how things work, then by all means, do so. You are not required to accept any challenges until you post.

*Check all challenging pets before you fight. Usually if a pet is above your league/boost, you are not required to fight. Bigger pets will try to challenge you in hopes of you making the mistake and accepting the challenge. You are required to fight pets of the same league/boost. Observe the opposing guild's roster. It should be posted in the opening post of the war board. If you have any questions about a challenge, ask before you accept.

*Avoid arguments. There is no need for name calling or fussing on any board in all of Neopia, but avoid it at all costs on your war board. No one really needs to know your ill thoughts, and you shouldn't care to know anyone else's either. This is usually the make it or break it part of a war. War time can either be fun or a nightmare. If you should feel the uncontrollable desire to confront someone, it is best advised to either mail your guild leader or wait until the war is over and neomail the person you are having the problems with. On a side note, it is never worth the risk of losing your account for any reason, especially this one. Keep it professional.

*Never under any circumstances share any challenger's set pieces with anyone, at all, period. This is always frowned upon and against war rules. It's not considerate of other battlers. Just don't do it.

*Finish all challenges before leaving the war board. You will forfeit any points for matches you do not fight. If it is at all possible, it's best to post that you are leaving a few minutes before you go. "Once I finish this fight, I have to go," works wonders.

That's about it. Follow these guidelines and you should have a great day of fun! If you have not tried a two player match, I encourage you to do so. It can make for a bit of excitement when you need it. Get to training those pets! What are you waiting for?

-See ya in the dome!
