So You Want to Raise a Neopet of Your Own

by redmareclover32

--------

Raising a pet can be hard. But if you are reading this you probably are thinking of getting one. The Neopet is a complicated creature much like a dog or cat. They need care and love to become a healthy pet. I have compiled a series of tips to help you with adopting and caring for your pet.

To start off we will be looking at the different possibilities of where you can get a neopet. The first one is just creating a new pet. Once you have created your account, you will see the “Create a Pet” icon. Click on it. You will now see a wide range of pets you can choose from. You may be thinking about the type of pet you may want, or if you even want a pet. Here is a list of questions to ask your self when you are creating a pet.

  1. Are you in a financial situation that allows you to fully care for this pet?
  2. Do you really want this pet?
  3. Are you sure?
  4. If you are, will you have the time to take care of this pet?
  5. Is this what you really want to do?
  6. Would you rather adopt a pet from the pound?

Once you have gone through this list of questions, really think; if you answered NO to any of these questions, you are probably not ready to adopt a pet.

Now, you may be unsure about the type of neopet you want to adopt. I myself own 3 Gelerts and a Flotsam. I personally think these are great Neopets, but you may think differently. The decision on what Neopet you get is entirely up to you. It is your decision on what Neopet you want to spend your life with.

The next way to getting a Neopet is by visiting the Neopian pound. This is a place where other people drop off their pets. You can find a great number of pets here. The only thing with the pound is that you may not find the exact neopet you had in mind. You may also need to search a while until you find a pet that is suitable for you.

Make sure when you’re shopping for a pet, from the pound, you review the questions 1-5 up above. And remember, just because these Neopets are in the pound doesn’t mean that they are bad Neopets.

So now, assuming you adopted your pet, you may need some tips on how to raise and care for it. The first thing you need to do is purchase food and a Neohome. You can find food all over Neopia and, if you know where to look, there are many opportunities to get free food.

The type of toys, food, grooming supplies, petpets, etc. All depends on what you want to buy and what your pet wants. You may find as you buy more items that some things your pet dislikes other things your pet loves. There is just no way of telling.

Now I will begin to talk about Neohomes, in case you don’t know anything about Neohomes. The first thing you need to know is Neohomes are expensive. They can cost over 5000 NP just for one room. You need to buy the kind of material that is cheap enough for you, but is of good quality. I prefer bamboo rooms, but the type of room you want is a personal decision. Just make sure you can afford it.

You want to be able to have one room for your pet. This may mean having only one room in your whole Neohome. Furniture is not a necessity but you may at least want a bed for your pet.

The next topic is called “Caring Necessities” These are things you absolutely need to care for your pet. I have compiled a list for you showing all the essentials.

  1. Plenty of food
  2. A Neohome room
  3. Some form of entertainment
  4. Lots of time
  5. Neopoints

Number one is food. Without food your Neopet would starve. A Neohome room provides shelter to keep your Neopet warm and secure. Entertainment is not a necessity but your Neopets are sure to get bored. You need to be able to devote plenty of time to your pet. Neopoints let you buy entertainment and food and such.

Now I’m sure you might like some secrets to Neopia, right? Alright, just don’t tell anyone. First, when you need food for your pet, I know where to go. Visit the Soup Faerie. She gives free soup to needy Neopets. Next, if you visit Tyrannia you can go and get free omelette. Last, if you fish in Maraqua, you can get some good stuff. Now these are top-secret secrets I have discovered; these have been shared with you to help you care for your Neopet.

Now I have created a test to see what you’ve learned. It covers this whole article. And remember, this test is to help you begin a journey with your lovely Neopet. Either use your own piece of paper or do these problems in your head. Here we go!!!

  1. What are the two places you can get a Neopet?
  2. List three of the six questions you should ask yourself before getting a Neopet.
  3. Should you house your pet? Tell why or why not.
  4. What are three of the five things essentials to caring for a Neopet?
  5. Tell what one of my secrets was?
  6. Just wondering - what type of Neopet do you want to get?

Alright, if you want to find the answers, look them up. (I know I’m a mean teacher.) If you got them all right, I say you’re ready to get a Neopet friend. If you got most of them right, good going. If you got half of them right or less, sorry, you may want to study more.

Okay, so one last thing; I interviewed two lovely Neopets in Neopia Central. The first one is a blue Gelert named Sky Clouds. The second one is a green Grundo named Rocky Baker. I asked them what their owners did to adopt them.

Me: Hello there!! I’m interviewing Neopets about how their owners adopted them.

Sky: How nice.

Rocky: Really!! Can I leave now?

Me: So Sky, how did your owner choose you?

Sky: Well, my owner adopted me from the pound. When he came in to meet me, he checked over my stats several times. Then he pulled out a calculator and a check book and began calculating expenses. After a while...

Rocky: Hey this is taking too long. How am I ever going to get back home in time for supper?

Sky (continuing): Anyways, after a while he began to fill out the paper work. I was so happy.

Me: And Rocky, how did your owner choose you?

Rocky: I was created. My owner I guess just decided that he wanted to adopt me and did. Now can I go home?

Me: Well, wait a minute, did he do any planning?

Rocky: No!!! Just let me go home!!!

Me: Well, thank you for your time. Have a nice day!

So that was my interview. We can all clearly see that Sky’s owner did much more careful planning. That is good. Rocky’s owner didn’t. And I don’t know if you noticed but Sky seemed much happier than Rocky. But who knows.

Well, I hope this article has helped you. If you have any questions, just Neomail me, redmareclover32.
