The Guide to Scourge of the Lab Jellies

What? A new game from Jelly World is discovered? Oops, my bad. For your information, Jelly World does NOT exist *shifty eyes*, so do not go around telling people I said this in my Neopian Times article. Now this is what have we here, a weird but cool combination of the Lab Scientist and delicious mean looking jelly. Following the recent release of Attack of the Gummy Dice, I prayed and hoped that a game concerning candies would not appear too soon. But alas! I was so wrong. On 13th December 2006, this new game was born! Let's move on to the totally awesome guide I've made just for Neopian Times readers like you!

The game description is as follows:

While trying to create the best jelly in Neopia, a mad scientist made a mistake during one of his lab experiments that caused the jellies to multiply out of control. As he tried to find a way of reversing their multiplying effect, the scientist realized that if five of the same kind of jellies formed a line, it would cause a chain reaction and the jellies would end up destroying each other.

The coolness of this game is shown through the mini animation before the game starts. This game is a combination of puzzle, strategy and luck (well, which game doesn't need luck :P). Now get ready, people; we will move on to the instructions which I will equip you with for this difficult journey. *passes you the bronze key for the first door*

What lies behind the first door is the basic instructions which will aid you in your quest on conquering this game.

The first door reads: The Beginning

Movement of the Jellies

Click on a jelly, then click on the empty tile to move the jelly to that tile. The jelly will move to the spot you choose as long as there a clear path leading to that tile. Jellies can only move horizontally and vertically, never diagonally :P Take note, every time a jelly is moved, 3 more jellies will pop up in random locations.

Clearing Jellies

If you line up five or more jellies of the same kind horizontally, vertically or diagonally, the jellies will be cleared and you get points for them. The more jellies you clear at one time, the more points you'll get for those jellies. In the event when a newly spawned jelly forms a line with at least four other jellies, the line will be cleared after your next move.

The Special Jellies

Rainbow Jelly - When a flash game in Neopets shows a rainbow colored object, it usually means that it is able to complete color combinations by becoming a sort of multi-color link which can be used in all situations. In Scourge of the Lab Jellies, it is the same. It will form a line with any variety of jelly and is able to clear them effectively. *I love rainbow jellies :D*

The Bomb Jelly - This jelly is extremely useful in blowing up jellies around it, giving you points and clearing spaces. However, it is extremely rare and will count down before it blows up. You can see the small number at the corner of the bomb jelly.

Stones - Nope, these are definitely not jellies. You cannot move them anywhere and they will act as obstacles throughout the whole game. This also means that the numbers will increase as the game moves on.

Now, before we move on to the next part of the guide, you may want to have a go at this game to familiarize yourself with what we have just covered in the earlier portion. Then you can come back and read on.

Now that you are back, I will guide you on how to make effective moves in Scourge of the Lab Jellies. As it has only ONE level, and it will only get tougher with all the new jellies they introduce at different parts of the game, it is of utmost importance that you make your moves wisely and carefully. This game has no time limit so you can afford to think. Head on to the second door then!

*passes you the silver key for the second door*

What lies behind the second door are the ways to maximize your points in Scourge of the Lab Jellies, be forewarned of the unpredictable spawns which the jellies will make when you make every single move.

The second door reads: Intermediate ways of conquering the Jelly

Creating Combinations

As we discussed earlier, a line will be complete once it reaches five jellies and above. We do not want to stop at a measly number of five jellies now, do we? That is why we should make each and every step worthwhile. Make 2 lines of 4 jellies with the same color side by side with a space in between so that they turn out like this:

XXXXOXXXX

This can be done either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. However, if you do not have sufficient space to do this, make shorter combinations.

Effective use of Bombs and Rainbow Jellies

Rainbow jellies can be used when there are no tiles of that particular color available; this will prevent wastage of this rare special tile which can prove to be a life saver at times. Bombs will explode and destroy jellies in their radius, making them effective in times where you are trapped or when there are many kinds of jellies. Try to make use of them by moving jellies near them before they explode, so that you can get rid of the jelly which you do not want.

Now for the final door, the ultimate secret in this game. *hands you the golden key*

Well, okay, it's not really a big secret anyway; try until you get a score you are satisfied with! Don't give up even when the tide is against you :) Remember, you'll get a trophy if you try hard enough. Well then, I'm off to get my best score in the game! See ya around! :)
