Caution: Cute & Kind Xweetoks on the loose!

by kool_rachy

--------

Large, green, almond-shaped, innocent-looking eyes stare back at you, taunting you, calling you. A tail flicks, ever so slightly, and the pitter-patter of light, quick feet is already quickly disappearing. You laugh, and chase after this wonderful creature, your Xweetok.

At the end of November, a discovery was made. The Neopet Research Team caught a glimpse of its first Xweetok, nigh impossible to find. They went to a lone village at the edge of a huge, thriving forest, having heard of strange tales from tourists of… well… tails flicking back and forth, balls of brown frolicking back and forth. Being as diligent as ever, the Neopet Research Team went to find out what was this new phenomenon.

The leader of the Neopet Research Team agreed to lend the Neopian Times their journal, to let us record this important event for all the world to see.

Day 1:

Beastly weather. Those villagers back there were kind enough to us, and gave us so much food. Half of them seem to be delirious from fever from these terrible tropics, and the rest seem to be having hallucinations of this beast they call the Xweetok. There are different statues all over the place, where there have been bonfires that make this heat even worse, supposedly used to worship these creatures. These statues look like the common skunk to me, though every single villager warns me not to say that out loud, for fear that these Xweetoks will hear.

They say that these Xweetoks are very kind, and bring bits of fruits back from time to time, usually when the village is on the brink of famine [which is not surprising, due to all the circumstances]. They worship these Xweetoks constantly, and the name "Xweetok" is supposed to imply that these Xweetoks are "sweet".

Tomorrow we plan on striking into the forest and see if these villagers really are just dreaming of these creatures. Though the fruit they offered was delicious, they might have just wanted to turn attention to their little crude corner of Neopia.

Day 2:

My heart is still racing from what has just happened! We have found the Xweetok!

At dawn we entered the forest. Time seemed to stop as we gazed in awe at the huge trees, and took our first tentative steps into this majestic forest.

Trees of immense size loomed ahead of us, as well as behind. The men yawned, stumbling every now and then crashing into their neighbor. I [of course] was awake the whole time, keeping watch. Which is the very reason why what happened next scared us so much.

With leaves crackling around us, shrouded by the morning mist, a head suddenly popped of the shrubs in front of me. Everyone shouted loudly, immediately scared out of their wits. The Xweetok let out a few whistles and chirps, which upon hearing, the rest of his family and relations popped their heads out. The leafy foliage was now sprouting with heads of different color, with an odd striped, or even cloud Xweetok here and there. The red Xweetok who was clearly the leader let out a bark that sounded like a laugh at the sight of the frightened faces. The rest of her followers gladly joined in, as more and more Xweetoks crowded around us.

They led us to their homes, racing ahead and skipping back all the way, tiring my crew even further. The journey to their house was an adventure itself. Every now and then, one Xweetok would pull on my cloak and point out something in the trees with hand gestures. I would then teach them English, and they would repeat the world to the best of their ability. After just 2 hours of this, all of the Xweetoks knew every word of English that I could ever have hoped to learn. They remembered everything too, and talked to us in English as so not to hinder our communication. Among themselves, though, they still spoke in the same whistles and squeaks

Finally we reached their home. These clever Xweetoks lived in a sheltered glade, with a beautiful, untouched river that led to a cool stream right beside their huts. These huts were also a work of art, a marvel themselves. There were chimneys, thatched furniture, all such a comfort to sit in, and intricately woven. Designs were carved on rocks and placed inside the house as decoration. I asked the leader why they did not carve a home into a tree itself. Their reply was simple, that the tree would die if they did such a horrible thing. I was further amazed at this intelligent race. To worry so much about trees and plants! They possessed an understanding of life that I hoped one day, I could learn.

Vegetation flourished, with gardens of the most ripe fruits any Neopian could ever imagine, just ready to be picked and eaten. Berries of all sizes, of all shapes, some that I'd seen before, and some I hadn't seen. They were all bursting out of their skin, a rich color in all of them. The chief herself offered me a berry, which was indeed a great honor, especially among the tribe of Xweetoks. All stared in awe, as I ate one of the most luscious fruits I had ever eaten, and ever will eat.

[end of journal1]

These sweet, cute creatures not only are kind and caring, but they will also defend one in need. The journal of this Neopet Research Team goes on to tell of how the Xweetoks battled against a sudden show of the Hissies.

Day 3

We had enjoyed the company of the Xweetoks for about 36 hours, feasting and drinking like kings and queens, when we heard a dreadful call. The leader of the Xweetoks was the first to go rush out and find a terrible scene. The Hissies, hearing about a new species, immediately grew jealous and decided to destroy this little colony. They had also drafted a few Skeiths to help them in their raid, and had first laid siege, and now they had begun the attack.

A terrible fight ensued. The Xweetoks were fearsome fighters, dodging in and out, around and behind, their paws moving so fast that it seemed like they themselves were flying without wings. At the end of the battle, it was clear that the Xweetoks had beaten the Hissies. Instead of killing all the neopets, though, the Xweetoks showed another beautiful trait of theirs: mercy. They had the rest of the Hissies promise to never rise in rebellion again, and never to harm another being [unless it was in the Battledome]. Then the Xweetoks invited the Hissies and the Skeiths to join them in the rejoicing of the end of the battle. At the end of the day, the Xweetoks and the Hissies parted, the best of friends.

The Xweetoks agreed to come with us back to Neopia Central. We plan to leave tomorrow morning. We will say goodbye to this special, magical glade, and to this [now] wonderful village nearby.

This has truly been the most wonderful adventure ever! But now, back to that most mysterious and wonderful place of all:

     Home

[End of Journal 2]

So, the Xweetoks have now made their entry into the entire Neopian world, already captivating the hearts of many other Neopians, shocking them with their brave acts of courage, bravery, and strength.

These lifelong friends are now here to stay.

We are truly blessed with these Sweet Xweetoks.
