"But I don't want to go..." complains Mint.
"You have to go to school, Mint," says Mint's owner.
Mint is a green Shoyru who is starting school today.
She is small for her age and is scared of all the bigger and older NeoPets.
"Hurry! Or you'll be late for your first day of school!"
says Mint's owner.
"Oh, OK..." says Mint disappointed. Mint runs off quickly
towards the school building.
"Mint! Wait! You forgot your backpack!" Mint's owner
yells.
"Sorry, Heather," says Mint to her owner. Heather hands
Mint her backpack and drives off. Mint runs back into the school building
just as the bell for Group Join-up rings.
"Oh. Hello, Mint!" says the teacher, a yellow Acara.
Mint looks up at the teacher shyly.
"Err...Hello..." says Mint nervously.
"It's OK. There is no need to be shy," says the
teacher, Miss April, softly.
"Sorry. I have never gone to school before, that's all."
Mint blushes.
"I understand. You can go and sit near that blue Shoyru
over there." Miss April points. "Her name is Blueberry."
Mint goes over to Blueberry and sits down nervously.
"Hi!" Blueberry says cheerfully.
"Hi, Blueberry," replies Mint.
"Wow, your coat is so shiny!" Blueberry says to Mint.
"Yeah. Heather grooms my coat every morning and every
night!" says Mint.
"Who's Heather?" asks Blueberry.
"Heather? That's my owner," says Mint.
"Children! Can I have your attention, please?" asks Miss
April. Mint, Blueberry, and the other children look around from their
chatter and look up at Miss April.
"For the first lesson today, you have Gym. So could you
all get into pairs and into a line and follow me," Miss April says. The
young NeoPets follow.
When they get to the gym, Blueberry blushes and turns
away from Mint embarrassed.
"Mint...?" Blueberry says slowly.
"What's the matter, Blueberry?" Asks Mint.
"I...I...I'm not very good at sport..." Blueberry mumbles.
"Don't worry. I'm only good at Basketball!" Says Mint,
trying to cheer up Blueberry.
Mint gets changed into her basketball uniform. Blueberry
gets changed into her Gormball uniform.
"Wow! That looks really expensive!" Says Mint in awe.
"Yeah. I won it in a competition. It's signed by the
Faerie Queen and the Fire Faerie, see?" Says Blueberry, pointing to some
magical cotton, sewn into the material.
Miss April sets the class into pairs. Mint and Blueberry
go into the corner and start to talk while they practice their throws.
Suddenly, Two large, red Grarrl twins come over. They
push Blueberry into Mint and they both fall over in a tangle.
"Hey!" Yells Blueberry, angrily.
"Got a problem, midget?" one of the Grarrls scowls at
Blueberry, growling menacingly.
"N...No...!" Stutters Blueberry, afraid.
The second Grarrl grabs Blueberry by the throat and rips
off her Gormball shirt. The Grarrl throws Blueberry back. The Grarrl tears
Blueberry's Gormball shirt in half, then in half it again, and again,
and again. The Grarrl then throws the pieces of cloth at Blueberry. Blueberry
starts to cry.
"M...M...My shirt! It's ruined! Why did you do that?"
Cries Blueberry, as Mint tries to comfort her.
"Because...I hate Gormball. And I hate anyone who likes
Gormball..." says the first Grarrl.
"Who were they?" asks Blueberry.
"They...are Devil and Danté. They...are the two biggest
cheaters in Gormball history. They got banned from playing Gormball professionally
permanently because they were found to be using a Water Mote inside the
Gormball, which caused it to explode when they wanted it to. She said
that the Fire Faerie found out about it and told of them," Mint says
in anger at the bullying done to her best friend. "Heather told me about
it. She said she was watching the NeoSport Channel, on her TV."
"That's why they picked on me? Because the Fire Faerie
signed my shirt?" asks Blueberry
"Yes. And now they know you support the Fire Faerie in Gormball...well
we'd just better watch out from now on..."
The rest of the day goes without problems and Blueberry and Mint fly
home together. They find that they live right next door to each other.
"See you tomorrow! Knock on my front door when you are ready to go to
school. I'll fly with you!" says Mint.
"Yeah. I'll get them back for what they did, even if it's the last thing
I do..." says Blueberry.
To be continued...
