Usuki Fever

by Rena2000

I was on my bed reading the newspaper, the front page had a headline which said, TYRANNIA INVASION OVER! POWER BACK ON IN NEOPIA!

"I've noticed," I muttered silently.

For more than two weeks Neopia had no power and my four pets (Kapree_Z the disco Kau, Annie2613 the red Poogle, Lucky290 the rainbow Acara, and Lily402 the spotted Kacheek) had been dying to watch some television, listen to their CDs on their speakers and boomboxes, or in my little boy's case play video games. Yesterday, the power had went back on and so had the television and boomboxes.

My little girls said for the whole day they were going to sit in front of the television and eat all the Cheesy Neos in the house. Kapree_Z hadn't left the video games corner for five hours now! I sighed as I read the newspaper when I heard Lily, Lucky, and Annie bounce up the stairs giggling. "Hi mommy," said Annie sheepishly. I picked her up and swung her around before saying, "I thought you three were going to be glued to the television for the rest of the day?"

Lucky smiled and replied, "We are, but first we need to show you something!"

Annie jumped out of my grip and onto the floor and then with a flick of her tail my little trio began to sing, "Usuki! Usuki! Move that groovy bootie! Every boy and girl should have to have Usuki! She can do everything: Rollerblade, Fly a plane, heck she can even swim in the ocean or a puddle of rain! USUKI!"

I laughed and clapped as Lily fell on her bottom and Annie bowed. "That was lovely girls! Where'd you learn that from?" I said, already knowing the reply.

"A TV COMMERCIAL..." my trio said.

"Of course, well is that all you wanted to tell me?" I asked.

"No," began Lucky, "I wanted to tell you that I will make dinner and you can relax for the rest of the day."

"And I," began Annie,"have volunteered to do the laundry and the dishes!"

And then my Lily, my very lazy pet said, "And you don't have to drive me to school or track tomorrow or for the rest of the week! I will walk!"

At that I almost fainted, my three girls, walking? Doing chores? That was very unlike them, so of course I had no choice but to say, "Okay out with it! What do you want?"

They all looked at each other and began to sing the "Usuki song." I yawned and then rolled my eyes, "What in the world is Usuki?"

Annie jumped excitedly, I could see she was dying to tell the Story Of Usuki. "Well Usuki is only the BEST TOY IN THE WORLD! She can fly a plane be a mermaid, have super cool hair, or anything. Each doll comes with her own clothes and matching accessories! They are the coolest thing in toys and I, I mean WE, have got to have one!"

I smiled, two weeks before my Annie had bought every plushie in the toy store, because she had to have them. One week before Lily had bought every key chain in the toy store, because she had to have them. And three weeks before Lucky had bought every Fuzzle and super duper scooter ever, because she had to have them! My home was loaded and crammed with toys! So I decided to draw the line with one little word, "No."

"NO???!!" chorused my pets.

"Right, no," I responded cooly.

"Oh mommy please! Please! You'll never have to buy me another Battledome item again! Please mom, see look at her in the magazine!" I was just about to respond with another "no", but I decided to look at the picture. That's when I said, "Yes."

My little girls jumped up and down and ran excitedly downstairs, probably to call all their friends about the news.

I stared at the magazine, I couldn't have said no. Usuki reminded me of my days on earth. Usuki was like a NeoPets' barbie doll! And I loved barbie dolls when I was little! I couldn't resist, after all to tell you the truth, I kind of wanted a Usuki doll myself. I got up and went into my closet to get my jacket, I was going to go buy three right then. After all the toy store was having a big 20% of sale, and with my discount card I bet I could get three dirt cheap!

I bounced down stairs singing a song by Christina Acaragulera, and walked into the room which Kapree_Z stayed glued in. "Do you want a new toy, baby?" I asked in a hushed tone. He turned around and looked up. He, unlike my other three was the farthest pet from spoiled. It wasn't that I tried not to spoil him, but that was just his personality! He had two toys, a orange Fuzzle from the times he had lived in the pound and a toy train from me. Actually he has tons of stuff, but those are the only things he plays with.

"Actually, Ma, can you get me a box of crayons for school?" I was surprised and nodded then kissed him good-bye.

I skipped into the TV room where you know who were watching television! How surprising! "Girls, I am going to go get three Usuki dolls, all right? I love you three.... bye!" But I couldn't leave, my three had made a circle barrier around me!

"Ma, we want to come!" I shook my head no and ordered them to go sit down or they weren't getting any. Reluctantly they went back to the couch and sat down. I was about to leave when Lily came over and said, "Mom you aren't going to be able to get three of em! They are so popular they go really fast at the toy shop!" she whispered.

"Rubbish! How many people are unable to get Faeries and motes from the magic shop? But I get 'em because I am determined. So now be quiet, this should be a cinch. Now I love you! Bye sweetie!"

I drove my car to the store and parked around the corner from the store and walked the rest of the way. What I saw next totally shocked me. There was a line of at least one hundred people standing and waiting for the toy shop to open! I asked the lady in front of me why there were so many people there, and she said for the Usuki dolls. We talked for a bit, about how silly pets were for falling for all these "trends." I stood in front of the store for an hour and a half waiting for my turn of people to be allowed to go into the store. Finally a little Chia cop yelled, "STORE RESTOCKED!"

I ran into the store and looked for the doll isle, I grabbed as many Usuki dolls as possible, but I only kept two. At one point a newbie held her skinny Peophin and asked if she could have one of the Usuki dolls, she was going to spend all her money so she could get her pet one. I reluctantly handed my Hawaiian Usuki over. Then about forty little Kacheeks jumped on top of me and took the five other Usuki dolls I had. I was left with two. I ran to the key chain isle, which wasn't really visited any longer. Key chains weren't the "fad" any longer.

"Geesa Louisa! Lily was right," I muttered. I waited for the store to empty out, grabbed a pack of crayons, and then went up to the counter.

"I would like to purchase these two Usuki dolls and this box of crayons!" I panted. The Lupe smiled and rung the Usukis up, then the crayons.

"I bet you can't wait till Usuki's boyfriend comes out, huh?" he asked sarcastically.

"I think I can wait..." I replied handing him 1500 NP.

I drove home and handed the two Usuki dolls to my three girls. They played and laughed with their dolls for hours, and you know what? I walked over and played with them too!
