A Day in the Life of a Street Lupe

by elizabeth2010

I watched from the alley I live in, the large (and slightly fat) Christmas Lupe look at the streaky bacon his owner had bought him in disgust. What was his owner doing, giving him such an ordinary meal when he deserved expensive Neggs and Chocolate Chias? He snorted and pushed it toward me. He didn't even see me.

When the Lupe had left, I dashed out and grabbed the streaky bacon. Then I ran back behind the garbage cans and devoured it. How lucky of me! I got some food that I liked and could probably rarely afford. Now I only had three Neopoints because Bandit, the Lupe thief, had stolen my sixteen Neopoints that I had worked hard to get. I was saving up to get a wonderful fire paintbrush; I am only an ordinary blue Lupe. I have no PetPets and I am level one. I have never owned a Faerie or eat even the cheapest Negg in my life. It's a sad life, living in the streets.

Today, I went to a book shop to see if there was anything that they were selling for very cheap. I knew it would be dumb to spend my three Neopoints on a book, but I love to read and I only have one book. After seeing nothing, I walked along the streets, looking for food and Neopoints I saw someone go by walking a white Lupe, a Faerie Lupe, and a fire Lupe

The Lupes had their heads held high and I could see that their owner had a bag full of Neggs and chocolate Chias. First I just sat and gazed at them but then, suddenly, (I can't believe I did it) I leaped up and sunk my teeth into the bag of Neggs I ripped it open and Neggs of all sorts came tumbling out. I got a chance to glimpse the Easter Neggs, the green Neggs, the Christmas Neggs, and more of the colourful fruit, when the Lupe's owner began to chase me, yelling. I dashed through the streets as fast as I could and ran back into my hiding place. I saw that all of the Neggs had been picked up except one. I quickly ran out to grab it, but I wasn't quick enough. A Uni got there first and ate the whole thing. Sadly, I stalked back to my hiding place.

All day I watched different NeoPets and their owners walk by, clutching their purchases. There were so many painted pets including: Fire Lupes, White Lupes, Faerie Unis, Stars Zafaras, Silver Shoyrus, and Glowing Jubjubs. It became so unbearable to watch those pets pass by and their owners saying things like: "Your NeoHome will look so wonderful with that new table…" and "All of the other pets will be jealous when they see that you are painted gold!" So I ran to the Soup Kitchen; that might be the only place I could go where NeoPets wouldn't be talking about paintbrushes and NeoHomes.

I went to the Soup Kitchen and bolted down the meal of soup. I decided to stay there for a while but the Soup Faerie told me that I should really go back home to my owner. Truth is, I don't have an owner. I began to walk down to the streets, but then a young Gelert passed by and said: "It's so wonderful to be painted Cloud!" I dashed down to the streets nearly in tears.

The afternoon passed slowly. And finally, the day ended. That is what it is like to be a street Lupe I never know what tomorrow will bring. Who knows, maybe someone will pick me up and bring me home. It might just happen.

The End
