Sunshine

My pet's name is called Sunshine the Faerie Poogle, although she was called Dora before. Do you know why she changes her name to Sunshine? Read the story below and you will understand…

Dora was a very cute pink Poogle. She is very kind and brave. Everyone likes her. The most special quality about her is that she loves to help people. She often tries her best to help as many people as she can, even in the most dreadful situation. It was during the day of the Ice Caves earthquake...

The ground was shaking, the hot burning lava was splashing out of the ground, the snows was melting, there were screams and shouts everywhere in the Ice Caves. Suddenly, there was a huge split in the middle of the caves, many igloos in the caves collapsed and their inhabitants became homeless!

Many pets were hurt by the burning lava! Many of them were injured, lying sadly and hopelessly on the icy snow. It was well known that if the pets were not treated by some medication within three days, their wounds will never be healed and many pets will be crippled or destroyed like in the Battledome!

Dora was playing in the Ice Caves before the earthquake, she was lucky to escape away from the burning lava in time. Greatly saddened by her injured friends and other pets living in the caves, She rushed to find help from the Water Faerie at the Healing Springs. The Water Faerie couldn’t help them because she couldn’t travel to anywhere that is too far from the ocean, but she told her that the yellow Healthshrooms could cure the wounds of the injured pets in the Ice Caves.

Then Dora went up to the Terror Mountain to see the snow Faerie Unfortunately, the snow Faerie was not there as she had traveled to other parts of Neopia to seek for ways to prevent melting of the Ice Caves. So, Dora decided to find them on her own.

The Healthshrooms are particularly hard to get as they are scattered around the top of the Terror Mountain. Dora brought a basket and climbed all the way up to the mountain top to gather as much Healthshrooms as possible. Dora didn’t sleep at night and was wandering around in the snow for two whole days, hoping to gather enough Healthshrooms to cure all the injured pets in the Ice Caves.

However, before the dawn of the third day, there were 10 more untreated injured pets lying hopelessly in the Ice Caves, mourning and thinking that they probably would not live any longer. Up in the mountain, Dora had gathered a lot more Healthshrooms, but she knew she would not have enough time left to reach the injured pets before the sunrise. Then she thought of an idea although it would be very risky and she might need to sacrifice a lot for it.

She thought, the quickest way to go back to the Ice Caves was to roll down the slope of the mountain with the Healthshrooms in her basket, but this would be a very dangerous task as the slope is very steep with lots of trees obstructing the way…

Knowing that the sun would rise soon, Dora thought of the poor injured pets at the Ice Caves. They were all waiting for her. She secured the basket in her chest and crawled into a ball, than rolled down bravely towards the Ice Caves.

Dora was lucky to reach the caves in time, however, the sharp ice hurt both of her legs badly, but she gathered her remaining strength to distribute the Healthshrooms to the ten injured pets before the sunrise. As she gave the Healthshroom to the last wounded pet, a beam of sunray emerged from the eastern horizon. At that moment, Dora collapsed. She was lying in the snow.

Although all the pets in the Ice Caves were healed, they were crying sadly beside Dora's motionless body, thinking that they would never have a chance to thank her. As they were weeping beside Dora, suddenly, a beam of golden sunray surrounded them, and Dora rose high up into the air! Dora started to change---Her tiny pink body was changed into purple, a pair of pink wings grew on her back and all the wounds on her legs were healed!

The Faerie queen appeared in front of Dora, and gave her a warm smile. She said gently to Dora, "My darling, I'm sorry that I did not reach here in time to help the injured. Although I'm very glad that I reached here in time to grant you a new life and a new form. On behalf of everyone living in the Ice Caves, thank you so much for your help. With your new pair of wings, it will be much easier for you to travel, even to the most hazardous part of Neopia!"

The Faerie queen also gave her a new name 'Sunshine' -- The sunshine of Neopia, a pet that can bring warmth and hope to others!
