Dr. Sloth was in a vile mood. He looked at the Grundo
shivering in terror on the ground in front of him. This Grundo had failed
to capture the Space Faerie, even though he had had the perfect opportunity.
"Get out of my sight, you punk, before I squash you into eatable sections."
"Yes master, I-I-I'll never fail you again. Good- good-bye,
master."
As the Grundo, whom Dr. Sloth called Scum828- for what
his master usually called him, his level, and his HP, and his friends
called Bolt, for his speed, left he was exceptionally angry with himself.
Why must he always cower in fear? He was very strong,
fast, and intelligent for a Grundo. He had proven many times that he was
no coward. He had faced down beasts, before he was captured, that would
have made a NeoPet five times his size and level run in fear. Why did
Dr. Sloth terrorize him?
When he reached his cage, he found that several of his
friends waiting for him.
"Hewwo, bolt. We dought yous got eated. Why didn't cha?"
Unlike bolt, his friends were not very bright, but they were completely
trustworthy.
"No I didn't, and I never will. I'm too high in levels,
strength, armor, and intelligence to get eaten. I, however, do not want
to take the chance. How about we get out of this ugly space station?"
At the time, Dr. Sloth was considering zapping Scum828
into a pathetic Cybunny. The vile Grundo had failed him again! He was
just about to send out the order, when he remembered his level, intelligence,
speed, and strength. Well, this time I'll punish him. No rations except
water for four days. Almost all the Grundo's, including bolt, were just
on the edge of starving anyway. It wouldn't kill him, but he would always
remember it! He then dialed up his head of discipline, Sergeant Mcray,
a red Lupe.
"Send the order to the head chef that Scum828 is to receive
no rations for four days. Also, inform that pathetic Grundo of this, also."
"Yes, doctor. I'll do it right away."
"Make sure you do."
Sergeant Mcray was actually a spy for the Space Faerie.
She had a hatred of Dr. Sloth ever since she first met him. When the Space
Faerie asked if she would keep an eye on him, she had happily obliged.
Poor Grundo, he was going to be very hungry. "If only I could prove Dr.
Sloth is enslaving them, not hiring them! The Space Faerie could take
care of the vile doctor!"
Mcray rang up the cooks. They were made up of overworked
NeoPets that the doctor had "collected" during his travels. The head cook,
a Skeith, answered.
"Hello?"
"This is Sergeant Mcray. I am giving out an order from
Dr. Sloth. Scum 828 is not to receive any rations for four days." She
had to act the tough, no nonsense Sergeant.
"Thank you sir. We will do this." The Skeith was careful
to mask any pity, for Mcray was rumored to punish people just for sounding
concerned about punishments. As she hung up, she wished she didn't have
to play this guise. It's to help the Space Faerie, she told herself for
the hundredth time. Then she dialed up the Grundo's. A scared sounding
Grundo answered. "Hew-w-woo?"
"I need to talk to Scum828."
"Uhh… ee no heer."
"Where is he?"
"No here."
"Is he at the Space Station?"
"No here."
Mcray knew what had happened. This Grundo was trying
to escape. The problem was, Grundos weren't smart enough and didn't know
enough about space stations to get off.
"Yes. I'll tell Dr. Sloth of his… absence." She then
hung up.
How long could she stall before Dr. Sloth became suspicious?
Five minutes, she estimated. Ten if she could break her phone and then
say that it had taken her some time to find another phone. She then did
that and went to find another phone. She went to a new recruit's office.
She said she had to make calls privately of the utmost importance. The
recruit swelled up in pride and gave it over. She went to her office and
waited a bit before calling the doctor. She reported that Scum828 was
missing, and then quickly hung up.
Bolt was, at the moment sneaking his friends onto a huge
freighter bound for Neopia. At the moment there were three ships going
to Neopia. Once he got home, he would contact the faeries and tell them
about his races enslavement. As the last of his friends got into a hiding
space, he quickly hid in a box. Then he heard a knocking on the hatch.
He knew who it was. Sergeant Mcray, coming to arrest him. He got out of
the box to tell his fellow Grundos not to open the hatch, but it was too
late. Sergeant Mcray poked her head in. Many of the Grundos cried out
in fear. To Bolt's immense surprise, the Sergeant smiled.
"Got any room for me? I need to talk to the Space Faerie."
Bolt replied coldly, "Like we'll do that. You'll turn
us over to Sloth."
Mcray replied, "I'll prove it to you that I'm a spy for
the Space Faerie." And then he pulled out the seal of the Faeries.
Bolt thought about this for a minute. Then he said, "You
better get in quick. The ship is about to take off."
The Lupe got in, smiling. "Thank you for allowing me
to join you."
Bolt smiled to his friends. "We're finally free!"
The End
Epilogue: The Grundos made it home safely. Sergeant Mcray
informed the Space Faerie, that she had witnesses to prove Dr. Sloth a
traitor. The Space Faerie then freed the Grundos. Bolt and his friends
lived happily ever after. Please, when you get your next NeoPet, consider
a Grundo!
