The Mysterious Origins of Meerca Chase

by neoepiphany

Sure, we all love the hip new game on NeoPets, Meerca Chase. How could you not love zipping your cute little Meerca around and swallowing all those Happiness Neggs? But do any of us actually stop to think about where this game actually came from? This obsessed Neopian did, and went on a crusade to find out exactly what dark and mysterious origins the game has.

If one wants to know about Meerca games, who better to ask than Meercas? With that logic, I set out for the Neopian pound. The Meercas, due largely to their speed and playfulness, are very difficult to keep track of, so it was hard to find a group of the little guys to answer my questions. Eventually, I managed to get the following story on Meerca Chase from a group of young Meercas.

Meeracan and Merrrcaca, both carelessly abandoned by their owner, told me that, long ago, a group of Meercas had lived in a Valley to the East of Terror mountain, in a place where Faeries were in charge. The soil in the valley was rich and fertile, so two Meercas, Xelly and Velositti, began a Negg Orchard, where they grew Neggs of all colors. This is where all Neggs originally came from, especially the more exotic varieties, like the Sneggs and Happiness Neggs, and especially the Easter Neggs.

Next door to this orchard lived a group of tricky young Meercas, the biggest prankster being MadMeer923. She hoarded a pile of stolen Fuzzles, and ordered the other Meercas around. Every spring, they would have a test to prove who was the biggest trickster, and MadMeer923 always won. One particular spring, they decided to go into the Negg Orchard, and eat as many Neggs as possible.

When she found out about the plan, Velositti begged Xelly to go to the faeries and ask for help while she stayed and guarded her precious orchard. He went, and pleaded his case before the Faerie Queen herself! "Don't worry," she said. "Since I love your tasty Neggs, I will protect them from the pranksters."

That night, as Velositti and Xelly watched, the first prankster, MadMeer923, slipped under the fence. She grabbed a handful of delicious Neggs, yellow ones, and green ones, and gray ones. She even grabbed a tasty rainbow one, and even the rarest and most succulent Negg of all--the Fish Negg She didn't like the taste of the red ones, so she left those be. Velositti was upset. "The Faerie Queen promised to help us, yet this bully is taking all of our Neggs! What will we do?"

"Just wait," Xelly said, "I'm sure something will happen."

Meanwhile, MadMeer923 sat down to eat her Neggs She ate Negg after Negg after Negg, gulping and swallowing greedily, as Xelly and Velositti watched. In fact, Xelly and Velositti began to laugh as they saw what was happening to MadMeer923. For every Negg she ate, her tail was growing a few inches! As she stood there greedily eating Neggs, it looped over and over and over itself, until she was sitting on a tremendous hill of her own tail! As she licked the last of the juice from her chin, MadMeer923 looked down and saw her tail for the first time. She was so frightened, she got up and ran away from it, running full speed, just as fast as she could, jumping and darting away from the long tail that pursued her. Inside the house, Velositti and Xelly laughed and watched the foolish young Meerca who would be forever running from her own tail.

As they finished this old Meerca fairy tale, Merrrcaca and Meeracan were joined by little SHORTYx14, and they all ran off to play their own game of Meerca chase. I myself am satisfied that this story clears up the origins of Meerca chase, and I hope that you too are clear. But I can't help but wonder about that valley to the east of Terror Mountain: Is it a real place, which one of our intrepid explorers will uncover for us, revealing the very orchard where all the exotic Neggs come from? Is this the mythical home of the Easter Bunny? Is this where Adee the Chia has vanished to? Or is it just a fantasy world, a home for myth and legend and Meerca Faerie Tales? We may never know, but in the meantime, we still have Meerca Chase to remind us to keep legends forever on our minds. And by the way, Merrrcaca, Meeracan and SHORTYx14 are still up for adoption at the pound; I certainly hope someone out there adopts one of these great Meercas!
