That day was cold. Colder than it had ever been in Neopia.
There was an abundance of fog where ever you went, and the air was chilling
to the bone.
Incubuss had been home for a while now. His mind wandering
now to other things besides work. He sat in front of the fire this morning,
curled up on Bulma's velveteen couch. Bulma slept in her room alone as
usual. The only sounds were of the fire crackling and spitting as it burned
on. Incubuss smiled to himself, his dreams becoming more and more real
everyday. He flexed a white paw against the couch arm, and rolled onto
his side. In his dream, he wandered the forest with another of Neopia's
residents, Sentent. She was smaller then him, and faster too. They played
together a lot. He saw her before him now, as he chased her through the
wild brush of the forest. A tail, a paw, she was always somewhere insight.
But he could not catch her no matter how much he tried. She eluded him
like this for most of the night, and up until now, when she lost her footing.
Her sleek figure toppling down a small hill. He smiled and ran after her.
Within the minute he had caught her and was playfully attacking her. Growling,
encircling her with his long body, then with one quick movement he had
escaped her swiping paw, gracefully he pinned her to the forest floor.
He looked down into her dark brown eyes, protruding from the day glow
yellow fur and purred softly. Or was it him? Tilting his head, he realised
that it was her purring, softly and steadily.
Her purr flowed over him like an ocean wave, or a great
waterfall. He smiled and drew closer, joining her in harmony with his
deep and rather sensuous purring. They slowly pulled each other down..
Closer and closer until they were nearly touching... HUH? ! He opened
one bronze eye, then the other, looking around. She was gone. It was all
his dream. He smiled, remembering it... What a dream.... Then there it
was again. That horrible sound that woke him up. It was loud, and rang
out to him like bells, only horribly rusted bells who's harmony and
melodic ding had long since flaked away to reveal a vicious crying sound
that left his ears ringing. Suddenly, his own door bell rang, interrupting
his trail of thought. He got up, and pawed open the front door. Humm?
It was Siczor and.. Everyone? Incubuss looked at them questioningly. They
never came over like this before.. Siczor looked down at me, his eyes
watery. He picked me up in his arms and hugged me tightly. What? ! Why?
? I started to panic. What was wrong? ! ? ! ? ! He set me down, and I
looked around frantically. Sentent? ! ? ! I wailed despairingly, not seeing
her. Then, from behind Chris, she popped her head out. I almost barreled
him over in my rush to her. I looked her over, up and down. She was fine..
then...
What was happening? Siczor went into the hall, I guessed
to Bulmas room. Then, the sound rang out through the capsule again. This
time louder and more intense. I looked around, what was wrong? What happened?
I knew this was nothing normal. My breathing began to get more intense,
and I shuddered, my tail thickening with fright. Then, I heard them. The
thundering foot steps of the Neopian Police. A soft whimper escaped my
lips, before they came upon me. Moving without a word, seven men in blue
uniforms seized me around the waist and started to drag me from my home.
I let out a howl and dug my claws into the nearest thing; carpet. They
went in easily, and I held on there until two more men came up in front
of me and uprooted them. I was in a panic. What did I do? Why? Then, out
of the corner of my eyes, I saw Sentent's sorrowful face. Her furry cheeks
set down with tears, streaming across her chest, and to the floor. My
heart shattered. NO! ! Frantically, I pulled with all of my might towards
her, straining every muscle in my body until I was inches from her face.
Her expression was pure, and she smiled through her tears. Just as I had
loosened my grip slightly to lift a paw to her neck, they yanked me back,
and instinctively my claws extended, slashing through her soft feathery
fur and into the flesh of her cheek and across her nose. My eyes widened
in horror as she was knocked off her feet and thrown into the door. Her
body sprawled across the floor, lifeless at first. Then she stood up shakily,
tears flowing freely from her eyes. I cried, realising the same tears
poured from my eyes as well.
Screaming and wailing I struggled with everything to
try and free myself but it was no use. They hauled me into the back of
their trunk, and slammed the doors. Locking them from the outside. I watched
Giligar, Chris, and the rest as they cried for me. I was crying for them.
What had I done? I watched my life drain slowly between my teeth through
the iron bars of the truck. Then, to my own explicit horror, Bulma rushed
out with Siczor close behind her. She was dressed in her normal brown
jeans and shirt, I guess he got her up. I felt a sudden splurge of excitement
coming through now. Bulma could stop them!!! She would tell them it wasn't
my fault.. what ever it was they were here for! She would tell them! Bulma
was the... was.. she was getting hit! They were hitting her!!! She looked
horrified!!
I couldn't just let her take this! I backed up, and rammed
my head into the steal walls, only succeeding in giving myself a severe
headache. Well, that didn't do much good.. I lifted myself back up to
the bars and watched. Unable to help. She tried her hardest, fighting
and screaming against them. They held her down, but she kicked them off
of her. Then she saw me. Her normally pale face streaked red with tears,
her clear blue eyes focused only on me. She stopped everything she was
doing, and starred in at me. The police stopped as well, and it seemed
as though the entire world had silenced itself in this one moment of injustice
just before everything fell. Now, with everything she had, she was screaming
at the top of her lungs, diving forward to me. I wailed and hollered,
pawing at the bars and nudging up against them.
She hit the ground hard, and blood trickled from her
lips onto the earth. Then, three of the officers jumped on her, holding
her down while the other four held a white coat up to her. She was so
weak! I couldn't help her either. I shook my head furiously, I couldn't
help there was no way!!! I squealed as I drew in the air, and watched.
She couldn't fight back. They twisted her body into the coat, and tied
it around her. She was hurt!! The coat pulled her arms all the way around
her body, and tied her in what looked like a human knot! my lips quivered,
feeling the pain she was now. She screamed, being the only thing she could
do now. Twisting and squirming inside of her restraints.
"NOO! You cant take him!! NOO!" she yelled at the police in
a deeper voice now. She began kicking wildly with her feet out at them,
and writhing her body inside of the coat. They pushed her around, and
kicked her feet out from under her. She fell to the ground with a deathening
thud.
Then, they pulled a leather muzzle across her face, covering
her nose, mouth and most of her cheeks exposing only her eyes and portions
of her forehead. The leather straps cut deep into her long blue hair,
locking in the back of her head. She looked up at me with forewarning
eyes, the last time.. I knew, that I would see her again. I howled, long
and pitiful. It was more pain than I had felt ever before, to see her
being laid onto the stretcher as Siczor tried desperately to fight the
police off of her but to no avail. They reeled her into the second truck,
slamming the doors behind them. He screamed in a rage, kicking the side
of the truck, then slamming his fist into it, indenting the side. All
of this passed before my eyes, none of it I could do anything to stop.
I thought again about Bulma. Would she ever know it wasn't me? Did she
even know? I still didn't I couldn't know.. Nor would I ever. I looked
back to the doorway, where Giligar, Joey and Chris stood, all crying.
I wanted to go to them too. Wanted to tell them it was OK. Wanted to know
what went wrong. Wait a minute... Where is Sentent???? I scanned the doorway,
she was no where to be seen! Had they taken her as well?? What had she
done??
Just then I felt the engine of the truck start up, and
a steady roar from it filled my ears. No!! Not with out Sentent! I looked
around the house, then behind the tree. There she was! She stood a few
feet from the tree in the shadows, her small head bowed between her forearms,
crying softly into the reddened earth blanketed with a soft grassy cover.
They sat and watched helplessly as the truck containing Incubuss slowly
pulled out of the driveway, and began its way down the road leaving a
smoggy trail behind. They all felt it. It was a horrible pain deep inside
their chest.
Siczor, in his enraged state. He trembled now, curled
up in a ball in the center of the capsule lawn rocking back and forth
as if he had just seen a ghost. His eyes were streaming tears, and he
shook uncontrollably from the recent events. Chris stood hollowly, his
eyes down to the ground as his vision slowly blurred with the watery tears
of grief. His black fur shown now more then ever, though the sky was still
a cloudy gray and no sunlight had come through. Joey wrapped his wings
around himself, laying on one side, his tears fell in a slow drip as he
reminisced of all he and Incubuss had been through. And poor Giligar sat
hunched over himself on the porch, just weeping softly to himself. But
none of them felt it as much as Sentent. She had been through the most
with Incubuss. Had seen him in his worst, held him close in their intimate
moments, and she had fallen into a deeper friendship then she had ever
known with him. But was he truly gone? No. She decided not.
But he was with her. And she would always hold him dear
till the last moment. It was, now that she had made it, her destiny. And
now that she had sworn herself to it, this promise was embedded inside
her mind until the day she met her maker. This thought forced even more
tears from her, and as another shudder took over her body, she curled
tighter, feeling the warmth of him nearer to her body. She would have
him back, she decided. If it was the last thing she would do.
The End
