The Dark Mist Over Neopia: Part One

by Gohanohki

Prologue
Legend the rare-colored gray Lupe, and MistyBlue the blue Shoyru had thought this day in Kiko Lake would be a divine summer day. Little did they know it could be their last....MistyBlue had been checking her owner's mail, when up popped the message that would change everything....

The Awakening
I, MistyBlue, resident of Kiko Lake, was free. Okay, not free from the NeoDentist, not free from bed, heck, not even free from baths. Yet still, I was free. Today, a day to be put down in history, I was home alone. Not home alone for a month, only for 3 hours, but how it seems my owner treats me; this was a date with victorious freedom.

I was checking my mail. Hmm...Free Neopoints? Scam. Delete. A "I'm gone, but not for long, check the emergency numbers by the phone if anything comes up," mail from my owner, Stardust. Read. I laugh at how she thinks I am so immature. Delete. Wait.....A message from Legend, my best friend. He never e-mails me, though his owner is always working at the hospital and he has much more free time than I. Open.

Dear Mist,

Ha, Mist. (Either he had to type fast, or this was just a funny letter, for that was his nickname for me. However, I read on, still unsure.)

I must keep this short, for I do not have any time. Come over. Look in the window, tap on it three times. That is the password. Please, do hurry. This...This is just weird. I will explain when you get over.

Signed,

Legend.

Okay, not the best letter I had wanted to see, but at least he was safe enough to write. I went to the door, and wrote a quick note where I was. Then I looked for a jacket. Only an Eyrie Sweater? Oh well, it will have to do, besides, we Shoyrus had some heat of our own.

I put on the sweater, went outside, pinned the note to the door and set off. Wow, looks like the Money Tree would be having a pleasureable day! It was raining hard, and I promise that it felt like there was some hail in that rain.

"Oh glee," I thought. "This is sure the BEST weather of all to make me feel that nothing could POSSIBLY go wrong."

I soon walked the block that seperated our houses, gave the signal, and waited for Legend bolt the previously forgotten locks on his door. He never used those locks. Well, this is just wonderful. I walked inside, took off my sweater, and shoke a few times to get the water out of my short fur.

"Why in the world are you so paranoid, Legend?" I asked, half laughing, half worried.

"Come over here, away from the window. They may be watching," he answered in a hurried whisper.

We walked over to his desk, by the computer he had used to warn me, the computer he used to use to battle me in games. I gasped. A Shoyru Transmogrification Potion! One of the rarest potions of all! But, a...a Faerie Transmogrification Potion? They don't even exist! This...This is just wrong.

After Legend saw I had seen the eerie happening, he explained, "I was about to challenge you on the computer, and then there was a knock at the door. I thought it was you, so I opened it up. It was a monster Techo, holding these. I tried to shut the door, but his strength was immense. He pushed past me, put these down on the desk, took my Faerie Tales book and left. I looked out the window after him and saw the Techo rip the book to shreds in disgust, and leave with a dark figure. I assume it was Dr. Sloth. Then, all went black. I just fainted. When I awoke, I wrote to you, and now, here we are." He shivered as if Sloth was behind him, breathing down his neck.

"But...A Faerie Potion?" I said, the astonishment limiting my speech, my throat dry. "Also, I have never heard of a 'Shoyru Transmogrification Potion'. What IS this? Why did Dr. Sloth give this to us? Most likely, these are his 'state-of-the-art' potions, his newest creation. Why whould he trust you with this? Have you been mistaken for someone else?"

Legend chuckled, the most out-of-place sound in the house. "Good questions," he said, smirking, like how he used to. "I bet that if we could find out...there would be even better answers."

To be continued...
