As the week began to draw to an end Woodle was frantic. On Saturday Woodle's
best friend, _Rubarb_ the Cybunny was going to be fighting in the battle
dome. Woodle wanted to be there more than anything, but I wouldn't hear
of it. On Saturday morning all hope of going seemed lost. Breakfast was
eaten and chores were done.
April was begging to go to the park, but I was busy cleaning, and Charity
was at a pool party with her friend Ninida the Acara. Woodle was the only
one who could take her. Woodle didn't want to go any place but finally
he gave in when he had an idea.
The two were walking along as if on the way to the park when Woodle
said to April, "How do you like to go new places, April?"
"Would you..." she corrected.
"How would you like to go to new places!?!" Woodle demanded, loosing
patience.
"I guess I like it just fine," she replied, pausing to straighten the
bow on her tail.
"Well then, c`mon! I`ll take you to a great place you`ve never been to
before!" April trotted along behind the quick footed Woodle.
Woodle finally stopped in front of a huge, domed building. Great lines
spilled from the wide-open doors. "OOoooh no, Woodle, we mustn't! Mommy
said we were never to come here `till we are older!" April protested.
"Humph! I guess we're old enough to decide for ourselves, this place
is really cool, Mom is just stubborn!"
April gasped, "Well I don't care, I`m not disobeying Mommy!"
Woodle was quiet for a minute before thinking up a comeback. "Well I`ll
just MAKE you come in then!"
"I`ll tell Mommy and Charity if you do!"
"If you tell Momma on me I`ll tell Charity where her blue Flotsam toy
went!"
April's eyes rounded very large and she didn't speak. If Charity knew..."All
right, I won't tell on you.."
"Atta' girl, c`mon!"
It was a long wait but finally they got in and found seats. The benches
were hard and crowded. There was excitement in the air. When the battles
began April cried and said she knew why Mommy hadn't let her come before.
Woodle only shushed her.
"Oh, Look, here is Rubarb now, the brave lad! Fighting a Grarrl...gee
I hope he wins!"
"And Laura, his nice Mommy, over in the corner there" April pointed.
"I wish Laura was my Mommy, she is reasonable at least," Woodle muttered
under his breath.
Suddenly the lights dimmed and everything was dark except the spotlights
on the two players. April closed her eyes and Woodle held his breath.
Rubarb's opponent hurled a snowball at Rubarb and it hit, hard. Rubarb
threw another back, but it missed. The battle raged on, but the Grarrl
had the upper hand all the way.
And then, the Grarrl whipped out a Icy Snowball. He drew back his arm
to throw it at poor Rubarb...
