A Dream or Not?
The journey took a long time. Gildor, a red Kougra, and Jack, a young green Wocky, were questing to Neopia to kill a Swamp Ghoul. Jack couldn't understand why he was doing this. We have a fine ghoul right here, he said to himself, I don't see why we have to go all the way to Neopia. I don't see why I should go, anyway! Why, I could just walk away right now! That evening, before sunset, Gildor and Jack came to a small shed with two places to sleep. Gildor went in one room and locked the door, leaving Jack to himself.

"Goodnight!" Gildor shouted from the other room.

"'Night," Jack growled. He lay down on some blankets and fell asleep. When he woke up, there were noises outside. He opened the door and peeked outside. A Swamp Ghoul was outside! Jack closed the door abruptly and leaned against it, breathing hard.

"Perhaps that is the Swamp Ghoul Gildor wishes to murder!" Jack whispered to himself, then louder, "Gildor! Wake up!" There was no answer. Jack opened the door to Gildor's room and discovered that he was gone! But in his place was a Usul! It was a beautiful red Usul with eyes as blue and clear as water. At first, Jack was speechless. Then the Usul advanced to the door that led outside.

"M-Miss! Don't-don't go out there! There's a-a Swamp Ghoul! It's dangerous!"

"I know," said the Usul quietly. She went outside and, to Jack's surprise, greeted the ghoul and walked into the deep forest with it!

"I can't believe this!" Jack said to his little-Wocky-self, "Am I dreaming?" When there was no answer, Jack continued, "Well, if I am dreaming, I might as well go back to sleep so I can wake up." Then he hesitated, pondering his words. "See what's happening?! Not even I make sense anymore!!!"

When Jack woke up, Gildor was making breakfast, his ghoul by his side. "Good morning!" said Gildor cheerfully.

"G'morning," said Jack, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, "Do you know what I saw last night?"

"No idea," Gildor said between bites of bacon.

"A Usul. She was very pretty, with red fur and her eyes.. Her eyes were as blue as the clearest of streams... Do you think I was dreaming?"

Gildor stopped chewing. There was a long silence, and Gildor glanced at his ghoul. "You were dreaming," he said quickly, shrugging it off, "There's but a day of travel ahead of us. We ought to get it over with. I know it's early, but I think we should go faster today."

Jack frowned and said, "I agree with the part about it being early, but going fa-"

"Bacon?" Gildor asked.

"No thanks," Jack grumbled, and picked an apple off a nearby tree.

A few minutes later, Gildor stopped.

"Shh!" Gildor hissed, "Listen!"

Jack rolled his eyes, but listened obediently. Then he heard it - leaves crunching. "It's the guards!" Jack whispered fretfully.

Gildor grabbed the pots quietly and put out the fire. Then they all snuck back to the shack. Gildor began to saddle his black Uni hurriedly.

"We're going to have to fight them," he whispered.

"What?! You've got to be kidding! I can't fight them! They're after me, not you! They won't pay any attention to you!"

Gildor laughed mockingly and said, "You'll manage. Give them a good licking or two then slip into the trees like you did before."

"In there!" cried the guards outside. Gildor got on his Uni and broke right through a wall in the old, wooden shack.

"Well, aren't we in a hurry," said Jack sarcastically, climbing through the wood and debris.
