Kau's Life

My life was never easy, nope, not for this blue Kau, but I found happiness, even though it took awhile. This is my story.

"Littlejakie21? Are you up yet?" yelled Bruce from the kitchen. I (a female blue Kau) rubbed my eyes sleepily and sat up. I jumped off the top bunk of my bunk bed and slowly walked into the kitchen. My sister, a red Uni (I’ll call her cloud534) being in high school, had already left for school and my brother, the blue Techo (who I’ll call diamond32), was eating breakfast.

"What’s for breakfast?" I asked Bruce.

"Some cereal," he answered.

I sat down at the table. He slid a bowl of NeoCrunch cereal to me from across the table. I started to eat the cereal. It must have been pretty old. It wasn’t crunchy anymore.

"Come on you two, you’re gonna be late for school," said Bruce, "your sister left a while ago."

So Diamond32 and me grabbed our bags and lunch and ran out the door.

I wasn’t very excited about school today. We had big math test. I was just OK in school. I got C's and B’s. But my brother and sister were A students. Bruce wasn’t real happy with me and my grades, even though they we’re pretty good. I ran all the way home from school. I was ready to get out at lunchtime. When I got there, Bruce was standing in the doorway heading out. He said, "Littlejakie21, I’m heading to the toy store. Tell your brother and sister where I went."

I nodded, and went into the house. "Yeah! We’re getting new toys!" I said. The only toy I’ve ever had was a reject Techo toy that Bruce got on half-price day. I could hardly wait for another one. I went into the room I shared with my brother and sister, and crawled up into the top bunk. The bunk was the only place you could say was mine. I stared out over the room. There was this bunk bed, a bed for Cloud534, a closet, a desk, and a window. Out the window, I could see my brother and sister coming home. I jumped off the bed, and met them in the hallway. "Guess what?" I said excitedly, "Bruce went to the toy store!"

"Cool." They said together. I could tell they weren’t as excited as I was. "Of course they wouldn’t be," I thought to my self, "they have lots of toys."

You see, Cloud534 was the first pet to come along and had the most toys. Then there was Diamond32. He was a great fighter, and always got toys for that. I sighed and went back to the room I shared. I sat down at the desk and did my homework. When I heard the door again, I ran to the hall. Diamond32 and Cloud534 were already there.

"And for you," Bruce was saying. He handed Cloud534 a yellow bouncy ball.

"Thank you!" she said and went outside to play with it.

"And for you," he handed a blue Blumaroo key chain, and a red Chia soft toy.

"Wow!" Diamond32 said, "Thanks!" He went off to our room to play with them. Bruce walked right past me and into the kitchen. I followed him.

"What about me?" I asked with tears in my eyes.

"Huh?" said Bruce.

"Oh, I forgot."

"What?!" I said in disbelief, "You just FORGOT about me?"

"Anyway, your grades weren’t good enough," Bruce said interrupting.

I slowly stepped backward, then turned around and ran. I ran into my top bunk, tears streaming down my face, and hugging my old beat up Techo toy. I didn’t notice Diamond32 below me.

"What’s wrong?" he asked popping his head up. "He forgot me! Bruce just forgot me! I said through sobs. "Oh" said my brother and disappeared below me.

"Littlejakie21, are you up yet?" I heard again yelled from the kitchen. Oh! I must have slept through dinner. I sat up and jumped down from the top bunk, and grabbed my backpack and lunch. I walked out the door without breakfast. I wasn’t hungry, and I didn’t want to talk to Bruce, at least not yet. School went fine until I got to Math. The teacher handed out the tests. When I got mine I stared at it in horror and disbelief. I got a C+. What would I do if Bruce knew I got a C+? I shoved it into my backpack with disgust. I worried over it all day. I wished I’d never have to go home.

I slowly walked home, hoping Bruce would forget about the test. I tried to sneak to my room but Bruce stopped me.

"How was your Math test," he asked.

"Fine," I lied.

"Let me see it," he commanded.

I reached into my backpack and pulled out a crinkled piece of paper. I handed it to him. "A C?!" he said, "HOW DID YOU GET A C?! How could you??!?!?! "

"Ummmmm…" I really didn’t know what to say.

"Go to you’re room till I think of a punishment," he barked at me. I flinched under his words: A punishment.

"Yes sir…" I said in a feeble voice.

I sat and wondered in my bed what could be my punishment? I hope it won’t be that bad. Once again, hugging my Techo toy, I fell asleep.

"Wake up," I heard Bruce’s voice say.

I sat upright. I looked sadly at him. "What’s my punishment?" I asked sadly.

"You’re going to the Island Training School to train to fight in the Battledome," he said.

"What?! I’m leaving?" I said in horror.

"Yes. You leave tomorrow at 11:00 am. I’d start packing now," he said very sternly. "And, no dinner."

I sat there sobbing after he left. How could he? Well, I won’t take it I decided. I packed the bags as told. There wasn’t much in them. My pillow, my Techo toy, 63 Neopoints, which I had saved up, and a blanket all in a black bag. I looked at Cloud534’s clock around midnight. I got out of bed, and sneaked down in the kitchen. I took a green apple and some orange juice out of the cupboard. Then I quietly left the house.

It was a cold night, and I was very sad. "How could Bruce be so mean?" I asked myself walking down the street. I suddenly saw something move in the shadows. I hid behind a trash can. A ragged blue Aisha popped out from the shadows caring a ham leg in its mouth. I stared at it wide eyed. "I guess I’m not alone out here." I thought. After the Aisha had gone, I moved out from behind the trash can, and continued down the street lugging the bag behind me.

I heard a car approaching, and I hid, but obviously not well enough. The van, as I could now see, pulled over. And a Nimmo hopped out of the passenger’s seat and pulled out a rainbow gun and shot at me and I fell down because of my weak health, but I didn’t faint. I was carried into the back of the van, and set down in a cage by myself. The van rumbled along and more NeoPets were added all through the night. All looked worn out, which they must have been, to be shot by a rainbow gun. I saw the ragged blue Aisha that I saw before placed in a cage across from me. I fell asleep.

I was awakened by a mean looking Techo His name tag said: Dr_Death. He was looking us all over. I had a sickening feeling. I still clutched the black bag I still had. The pets were being taken out of the cages, and being taken inside. I closed my eyes shut. This place didn’t feel right. The door to my cage was opened, and the Nimmo who shot me with the rainbow gun last night, led me into a building that said with big letters on the front that said: Neopian Pound. I held my breath. I clutched the black bag even tighter than before. The mean looking Techo, Dr_Death stood at the desk that said abandon. He looked at me.

"Name," he said.

"Littlejakie21," I answered.

"You won’t need that," he said pointing to the black bag.

"Can I please have one thing out of it?" I asked.

"No. If I let you, everyone will want to keep there items," he replied. Then grabbed the bag away from me and handed it to an earth Faerie.

"I’ll take this to the Money Tree," she said and smiled. I smiled a sad smile back at her.

The Nimmo led me back behind the desk into a big hallway full of cramped, 3 NeoPet size cages. I was put into an eye-level cage with a red Kougra. The door was locked with a key. Maybe it was because of the rainbow gun’s shot, or maybe it was the whole overwhelming ordeal I went through, but I feel asleep. I was awakened at mealtime by the Kougra.

"Hey...you, kid," the Kougra said poking me, "it’s mealtime. You really don’t wanna miss dinner."

I sat right up. "What? Dinner?" I said feeling sleepily.

"Yeah," he replied.

"You slept since you got here."

"Oh," I said.

The Earth Faerie came around putting food into the bowls. If you could call it food. "Ah," said the Faerie as she came over to my cage. "I see you have a new visitor, Striped_rose."

"Yes. I seem to have don’t I?" Striped_rose replied.

The Earth Faerie left. I dug my face into the bowl and ate very fast. I hadn’t eaten in awhile.

"I’m sorry, I’m Littlejakie21, and like to be called Jakie," I said after I finished eating.

"What?" said Striped_rose, "Slow down!"

"OK," I said. "I’m Littlejakie21, and I like to be called Jakie. Sorry I didn’t say anything before."

"That’s OK," Striped_rose said. "So, how did you get here?"

"Well, I ran away from home, and was taken here in a car," I said, leaving out many details.

"Ah. You were picked up by the Pound’s van. It travels around the city, and picks up stray NeoPets," Striped_rose said.

"That makes sense to me," I answered.

It was the same everyday. Eat, talk, and sleep. Not a very exciting life. One day, Striped_rose was taken away. A little girl adopted him. After that, I stayed there, and really didn’t do anything. Until a purple Poogle was brought into my cage to live with me. Her name was Water_sprite. She had been abandoned by her owner, and was very upset.

"Don’t worry," I said, "you’re so sweet, who wouldn’t want to adopt you?"

I helped Water_sprite along until she got used to everything. A red Korbat came along and stopped by our cage. I wasn’t surprised at all. NeoPets and their owners were always coming to look at our cages. He left and then came back with his owner. "I want this one!" he said.

"Me?" I thought.

"I want the Poogle as a sister!"

Again, I was alone. One day, a little blue Shoyru came along, and waved at me. "Hi," I said to him.

"Hi!" he said back, and ran on looking at everybody. He came back with his owner.

"Hi!" the owner said to me.

"Hi" I answered.

She smiled at me and then went along to look at more pets. Every once in a while, you could hear the Shoyru saying "Hi" to other NeoPets.

The Earth Faerie came to my cage, and turned the lock. "It’s your happy day!" she said with a smile.

"Huh?" I said.

She smiled again. She brought me to the front desk that said: "Adopt."

I was overjoyed. I stared up at the girl. She stared down at me with a smile. She picked me up into her arms, and walked right on out the door. I had the biggest smile a NeoPet could ever have. She set me down and we walked over to the toy store.

"I’m Neko_chan72, and this is you’re new sister, Ichigo_chan," she said.

"Do you want a toy?"

"Sure!" I said.

After I looked a while I found a Techo toy. "Can I have this one?" I asked.

"Sure," said Neko_chan72.

And that is the story of my life. It wasn’t easy, but it was different than most, I can tell you that much.

I have no clue what really happened to Littlejakie21 before I got her, so please, if you were her owner before, don’t take offence. And, sorry if your pets name was used, I had to think of something! )
