Lots of people are interested in making their own guild, now I'm all
for that, but a lot of guilds don't make it....and frankly, some shouldn't
even be there. Keeping a guild is a lot of responsibility, but I'm going
to give you some hints to hopefully help you and your quest for making
your first guild a success.
1. Find an idea. And don't just pop one off the top of your head, trust
me, people will not join just because your guild says "the free stuff
guild." Trust me, there are a million of them and they never work out.
What do you love most? Are there already 10 other guilds with the same
idea as you already? The trick is to find a guild theme that is unique
from most guilds. Check the most popular guilds and make sure you're not
copying their ideas.
2. Make your guild. Okay, you got the idea, and the name, so now what?
It's crutial to pick a good color sceme for your guild. Utilize the preview
feature when you're first making your guild to find good colors. People
won't join your guild if it looks bad. Want some tips on making the welcome
message? Post a quick welcome message at the top and state a bit on what
the guild is about. After that, it's up to you, but personaly, I would
go easy on the HTML, keep it simple and clean and don't over do it with
the info.
3. Get members. This is a hard one...I have a guild and I got a heck
of a time getting my first members to join but if your guild has a good
theme, then people will join. It may seem like it won't work, but putting
up posts on the guild message board will get your guild seen. Just don't
put "OH PLEASSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEE JOIN MY GUILD, PLEASEEEEEEEEE," you don't
get any members at all. Just post what your guild is about and ask them
to check it out to see if it's for them. If your guild is good, then people
will join in time.
4. GET A GUILD WEB PAGE! This has endless posibilities. You can ramble
on and on about what your guild is about there and it gives you more fredom
than the 600 character limit of the guild welcome message. Don't wait for
more members to have a guild Web site, do it right away and people will
realize that you're in it for the longterm and are serious about this
guild.
5. Get a guild acount. Name it guild_name and start making money! You
might also want to get a guild mascot, and also start saving up rare items
to give away for contests. Once you get your guild council, give them
access to the acount and let them help you with the money making as well.
You can also have a shop there and make sure you put a link back to the
guild, and maybe you'll atract more members!
Okay, that hopefully should help you on your way. One last hint before
I leave. If you don't have 10 members in 3 months or hard labour, then
pack up your items and go join a guild and let them do the hard work for
you. :)
