Latest Fads

Author's Note: Remember, by the latest I mean from Sept. 2000 to now, Jan. 2001

Well, since coming upon the new year I thought a nice little fads article might be nice for the newer NeoPets' users, and a "walk back memory lane" for the older users. You may look at my account, and say, "She's pretty new, too!" I've been here a lot longer than October. I was here before that and that account failed and my pets ended up being abandoned and I left that account Neopoint-less. Enough about me, now about the fads.

NeoPets has seen a lot of different crazes throughout it's months on the web. I'm going from late September to now. (As of 1.8.01) These are in no particular order.

Grooming Items: Big back in September... I remember wasting hundreds of NP on things like eye shadow and blush... all over the message boards and actions people were trying to buy and sell blush, eye shadow, and lipstick by the sack full. Nail polish/varnish wasn't that big though.

Spooky Food: Huge when Spooky Woods came onto the map. I personally didn't have a clue where to get it, and bought Claw-Matoes and Pumpkin Pies for 500 NP. Everyone wanted Spooky Food, but most didn't know where to find it. People got rich off it.

Broken Toys: Oh, my, were these ever big or what? People could sell a snapped set of pencils for 500 NP. Now they can't sell them at 5 NP. Now everyone's figured out how to snap/brake/tear/burst/rip/break them.

PetPets: These were huge, and just starting out on this account, I didn't have the NP for them, and was one of those people trying to trade the now precious Regular Map Pieces for a Speck... then I accidentally sold it for 22 NP instead of 2200. Stupid me...

Slushies: Everyone was trying to get these when they first came out... now you can't get rid of the wretched things.

New Toys: Those are always big... I got two map pieces and some junk for a plastic sword, gum ball machine, and a Big N Bouncy Toy.

Ice Food: These was quite big for a while... that Rainbow Chia Pop looked ever cool, and we were willing to pay 1000 NP for it... big mistake.

Brain Tree Items: These were big, too, when Spooky World came out. We all had to have a Sugar Rush and a Skeleton Pirate.

Neggery Neggs: These were really popular and Neggs went into huge demand. I sold a Rainbow Vanilla Negg for 900 NP, bought it for 500 NP, and now can't find one under 1000 NP. Everyone wanted a Snegg and wanted to find out what was in those oh, so cool Bang Bang Neggs.

Christmas Crackers: Everyone wanted to know where to find them, and would pay just about anything and everything for them... now you can buy the stuff in them for sometimes under 1000 NP if you find a good deal.

Paintbrushes: These were, and still are big, though I wouldn't recommend buying one thinking you can use it once then sell it- You either use it once or sell it. It can only be used once. Halloween and Christmas brushes were 10s of 1000s of NP, and now you can find a X-mas one for 500 NP.

Codestones: When the training school opened, everyone had to have them all... they still are popular, though.

Green Apples: I don't know how many of these I've fed to my pets when they were common. Then one morning I woke to find you couldn't find one for under 1000 NP... and I used to sell them for 10 NP.

Faeries: These are still huge- people pay 2000 NP for them to find out that they're worth 90 NP- start boycotting the high prices and they'll go down.

Nerkmids: I've used two, a Lesser and a Good. With the Good I got 157 NP and an Earth Faerie. With the Lesser I got about 1000 NP and a Red Sausage which I sold for 3000 NP. It's better to sell them. They're still big, but not as popular as they were...

Map Pieces: The demand is big, and the supply is low. I've finished Lab and Space, and am working on Underwater, so if you want to trade my Lab and Space pieces for your Underwater, I'll gladly trade. When the Spooky/Lab/Space/and Underwater came out they were huge, and now Spooky and Lab are common and Regular is in high demand.

Soft Toys: They were huge for a bit, then started trailing off for a bit. Then the Rainbow and Reject started popping up and everyone had to have one. I must admit, I don't own a Rainbow nor a Reject yet. :-(

Coffee: Oh, did I ever make a fortune on this or what? I bought House Blend Coffee for 20 NP, and sold it for 45 or 35, depending on the other prices out there. I probably sold about a 100 cups over the time. Mine was the cheapest on the wizard. :-)

Now, we have went through the fads that I remember and have remembered paying 500 NP for a cup of House Blend Coffee or 5 for a Green Apple. :-) Hope you enjoyed this!
