Poogle Mountain

by Kaupu

Up in the clouds where it's too cold for most NeoPets to go, there is a mountain. But not just any mountain, Poogle Mountain! You can probably guess that this is where all Poogles come from. But why is it that there are so few of them? Why is it that only a certain amount of Poogles appear at one time? Every so often we hear a "20,000 more Poogles discovered" on the news page. But why?

"Mommy!"A baby Poogle cried out. "I'm soooo cold! I'm hungry too! Can't I have just one more grape?" The mother Poogle, who's name was Tabatha, sighed. She hated to see her baby so upset. But there was a shortage of food and they had to make due. For weeks and weeks she and her followers had been trying to convince the leader of the Poogles, Red, to let them go down the mountain into Neopia. But he claimed that he had spent all of his life there and never had a problem there before.

"All of that was before the blizzard!" Tabatha would yell. "Before our food and homes were destroyed." But Red wouldn't change his mind.

"No, Sweetie," Tabatha called out to her child. "We have to save our food."

"Says who?"

Tabatha replied, "Me. And Red."

"Is he the one who won't let me eat?"

"Yes," Tabatha replied. "Then let's leave the mountain!"

Tabatha frowned. "We already tried that-"

"On our own," her baby finished.

On their own? Why hadn't she thought of that! They could leave late at night so nobody would know where they went! Tabatha rushed to tell her plan to her followers. They all agreed that it was a fabulous idea. They decided they would set out that night. They trudged down the mountain only stopping to eat the food they brought with them. Within a week they were down the mountain. People loved the Poogles and each one was adopted into a loving home.

Back up on the mountain Red was fuming. "They left? They left? I told them not to! How could they not listen?"

Frightened, one of Red's loyal followers stepped up to the rock he was sitting on. "Um, well, Sir, if it's any comfort to you it's more food for us!" Hmmm...with half the population gone there was more food.

"This calls for a feast!" Red exclaimed.

And so they ate all the food they could find. After all the fruit was gone, Red called for a servant to go to the cave and fetch some veggies. He returned with nothing. Red was angered."Why haven't you brought me any food?"

The servant cowered into a corner. "Um, there was none..."

"NO FOOD?" Red shouted. "How could this happen?"

"Well, the one's who left must have taken it for their journey..."

"Selfish! They left nothing for us!"

Actually, they left half the food. It was plenty to last if you didn't have a feast as they did. Red growled. He wasn't a stupid Poogle and he realized this.

"We'll make it. Everybody go out and gather food."

They didn't find much. Three apples were all they got.

"Three..." Red murmured. "Hmmmmm...."

So the next day Red made an announcement.

"Friends," he cried out. "Our food is gone as is our shelter. We must leave our beloved lands to go on to a better place. Perhaps we shall return someday..."

So they set out and within a week they made it down the mountain. People went crazy over them and adopted every single one into a loving home.

Did the Poogles ever return to the mountain? Yep! Now Poogle Mountain is the top place to ski in Neopia! It's where the Alpine Challenge is along with the Neo Mountain Lodge. Red, Tabatha, and her baby (who isn't a baby anymore) run the place. It's only 30 NP a night and with a *** rating, your pets (especially Poogles) would love to stay there!
