Gertrude the lightly shaded yellow Kacheek relaxed on the couch. She
had spent a grueling day filled with tests and quizzes and not much else.
"Ah..." she said as the old couch soaked her in. There was a loud knock
at the door.
"Wha?" Liletine said, not bothering to open it.
"Go away! I'm tired," she moaned.
Suddenly a green Alien Aisha appeared in front of the couch with a teleporting
machine in her hand.
"Sorry Liletine," Gertrude mumbled.
"But did you have to barge in?"
"Yes," the Alien Aisha replied. "It's very urgent. I might need your
help."
"What's going on and why do you need me?" Gertrude asked.
"Two heads are better than one. Now get up and I'll explain," Liletine
said.
"I don't wanna get up!" Gertrude spat. Liletine frowned.
"You haven't changed. You're just as naughty as ever. The fate of Neopia
hangs in the balance!" Liletine said urgently. Gertrude sighed. She was
accustomed to dramatic happenings whenever Liletine was around so she
wasn't really surprised.
"Oh, all right." She got off the couch and stood up. "What is it?"
"It's Dr. Sloth."
"I thought the Space Faerie stopped him and sent him flying into outer
space," Gertrude said.
"No," Liletine said with a look of urgency. "You must understand. It's
Sloth's son! Herymon Sloth. He wants revenge for what happened to his
father and he's in outer space right now, hidden in the Space Station,
where he's fixing the giant ray gun his father built."
"How do you know this?" Liletine asked.
"I know much more than you do, Gertrude. I just saw it in my crystal
box. We must hurry! The ray gun is nearly complete!"
Liletine reached into her cloak and pulled out her teleporting machine.
She looked at the big, red button silently and pushed it. Our heroes found
them selves in a dark hall. The walls were black and the lights were dim.
There was a single window to the right and Gertrude stared at it, mesmerized.
There was her planet Neopia more beautiful than she had thought it ever
would be.
"Come, I hear footsteps," Liletine whispered and tugged at Gertrude.
She pulled Gertrude into the shadows as a Grundo soldier stalked past.
Gertrude was scared.
"I thought they were gone," she whispered. "Herymon Sloth has continued
his father's work. We must get to the main chamber."
"Can't your teleporting machine get us there?" Gertrude asked. Liletine
shook her head.
"No, it only works 3 times. We need the last one to get back home."
Liletine took Gertrude by the hand and they sneaked through the hall,
hiding from the numerous Grundo soldiers. Suddenly, as they were hiding,
Gertrude stepped on some thing and they got caught in a net. Some soldiers
came by and took them.
"You thought you could get away from Sloth, didn't you?" the soldiers
said. "We saw you all the time, sneaking past us foolishly. And Kacheek,
I hope you enjoyed looking at your little planet because that's the last
time you'll see it!
To be continued...
