Welcome to the latest edition of The Neopian News Brief, your one-stop summary of everything that's happened during the past week. There's a lot to be covered, so let's get started!
As we begin, our lead story is the recent arrival of those adorable little dragons, the Draiks. Neopia's forty-fifth species created quite a stir when a thousand of them were released on Tuesday. However, those that missed out on adopting a Draik got a second chance when another thousand were let out on Thursday. By this point, there's been quite a bit of speculation as to how the Draiks will be tied into the imminent debut of a new world, but at this point much remains to be revealed. Stay posted for more details in the weeks to come...
Also creating lots of anticipation around Neopia is the impending arrival of NeoSchools, whose progress was derailed by "this new world that is coming out." Hmmm... in the meantime, you can continue to stock up for school by picking up one of three new Faerie pencils. Our favourite is the pencil of the Earth Faerie, which actually grows as you write, so it never gets shorter or runs out of lead. What will they think of next?!?
Another newsworthy item that showed up this week was the Mystery Island paint brush, which was unveiled on Wednesday. Okay, so we know that it got beat out by the baby and pirate PB's, but really... how could you say no to the idea of pets in grass skirts and lei?
On Monday, those who were lucky enough to get their hands on a Disco Aisha from Limited Too were able to redeem their rare item codes. By visiting the Grundo warehouse, you could type in your code and receive some really cool items, such as Disco Aisha backpacks, glasses, and gold chains. There's even a magic Disco Aisha ball, which somehow knows the answer to all your questions... neat!
As this week ends, Neopians everywhere are celebrating the Acara Aquatic Festival, a magic time when Acaras take centre stage and get the recognition they deserve. Among the highlights of this year's festivities: a slew of Acara treats from the Bakery and Chocolate Factory, three more Battledome moves, a new spotted paint brush, and an arsenal of weapons, including Acara goggles, gladiator boots, plus ear and horn guards. Hurray for Acaras!
For those non-Acaras who might be looking to beef up their Battledome weapons, it might be a good idea to swing by the Lost Desert's Battle Magic Shop, where a new round of items has hit the shelves. Among the shop's latest offerings are the impressive desert arrow launcher and the gorgeous hand painted scarab, which is so beautiful, that it almost seems a shame to throw it at your opponent. Not to be outdone, Osiri's Pottery Store has released some new pots and vases that would be perfect for decorating your NeoHome. What are you waiting for? Hurry down to The Lost Desert, before they're all gone!
As if Neopia wasn't already overrun by the fussing, burping and whining of baby pets, their ranks have now grown with the debut of... baby Scorchios?!? That's right, thanks to the magic of the baby paint brush, you can now turn your mighty Scorchio into a diminutive dragon. Oh sure, they're adorable; but after a week of enduring their round-the-clock tantrums, we're sure you'll be running for the Rainbow Pool...
In other "changing-your-pets" news, Thursday marked the unveiling of the magical blueberry Chia pop. You all know what that means; if your Chia should be so lucky as to get their mitts on one of these tasty pops, then *Poof* So much for paint brushes...
Now it's time to take a look at today's financial headlines. After the slowdown that resulted in last week's sixteen point decline, the Neodaq rallied by skyrocketing an incredible one hundred and twenty five points, shooting well past the thousand point mark by Friday's opening bell. Among those spearheading this revival are a trio of companies who have now joined the Neopian economy's elite. By posting gains of more than forty points each, Lupe Consolidated, Alien Aisha Vending Company, and The Shoyru Company have established themselves as the leaders of this latest bull run.
Also showing a major profit this week was Skeith Bodyguards, which recovered from last week's nineteen point decline by climbing an impressive seven points, to get themselves back over the fifty-point mark. On the other hand, last week's other big loser, EEEEEURGH!!! Ltd., failed to bounce back from falling forty-six points, remaining steady at twenty NPs a share as trading opened on Friday.
Despite the sudden surge in the market, there are a number of companies like EEEEEURGH!!! that have continued to struggle. One such company is Neggwork Commerce, which followed up last week's seventeen point drop with another seven point plummet. Also faltering are Shop Wizard N-Commerce, who were one of two companies to fall beneath the dreaded fifteen NP mark, all the way down to twelve NPs a share.
However, thanks to the economy's recent surge, seven companies resumed trading after climbing back over the fifteen NP mark. This brings the number of companies under 15 NPs back down to twenty three, after the total had peaked three weeks ago at thirty. So then, will this recent Bull Market become a case of "too much, too soon," or will the Neopian economy continue to roll on? Only time will tell....
