Hello and welcome to this week's edition of The Neopian News Brief, your all-in-one summary of everything that's been taking place in the world of Neopia, from the sweltering scenery of the Tyrannian Plateau to the gloomy gates of the Deserted Fairground. We've got a number of outstanding stories to cover this week, so let's not delay any further...
Our lead story today is Monday's unveiling of the Meridell Rubbish Dump. With the farmers of Meridell growing so much produce, it's only natural that they would end up with a few bruised, spoiled, and squished items that they were unable to sell. Well, take that handful of rotten items, then multiply it by every farmer in Meridell, and I think you can start to see the problem at hand. After awhile, all those foul products start to pile up and create quite a stench! As a result, the Meridell Rubbish Dump has been created. Here's the idea: in order to draw folks to the rubbish heap (so they'll clean up Meridell by carting away the smelly garbage one piece at a time), valuable artifacts have been buried within the mishmash of squished tomatoes, apple cores, and zeenana peels. So do your part to help keep Meridell beautiful, and you might even win a valuable prize!
Also causing quite a stir was Monday's release of new Neopian Blogs! For those of you unfamiliar with Blogs, basically they're like an online diary. Four spiffy blog styles were part of our initial release, featuring images of Dr. Sloth, Sidney the scratchcard salesman, Taelia the Snow Faerie, and Ghi Pharun, one of the four guardians of the Training School. All you have to do is copy the code on the right of the blog that you want, then paste it into your shop description, and you're all set! Now, you too will be able to self-indulgently pontificate upon the relative merits of battle ducks for hours on end... err, I mean... what are you waiting for? Get blogging!!!
Coming along on Tuesday to take the "Ooh!" right out of Usuki, it's Neopia's *cough* favourite (and thankfully, only) slimy superfashion dolls... Quiguki! Sporting three new diva-riffic styles (Mermaid, Lost Desert and Prom Queen... Prom Queen? Who voted her the Prom Queen? I think we need a recount), these dolls are one present that's sure to get quite a response. Granted, it might not be the response that you intended, but a response nonetheless...
On the merchandising front, there was a link posted in New Features on Monday to a story about the upcoming Neopets magazine that will be produced by Beckett. Arriving on the first of September, the magazine features an extra-fancy cover, and will be loaded with all sorts of helpful hints, games and exclusive features, including a preview of the Neopets trading card game. In other merch news, on Thursday it was announced that green Kacheeks would soon be making their way to Limited Too, so be sure to pop in next week if plan on picking one up. It's been quite a month for Kacheek plushies, considering that Striped Kacheeks also hit the shelves recently, during the first week of July.
This past Thursday brought about the arrival of Kiko Day, a wonderful holiday that is beloved by all. On Kiko Day, it is customary for Neopians to gather their friends, pack a huge picnic basket full of food, and head out to Kiko Lake for a day of sun, swimming, and relaxation. Along with all the festivities taking place at the lake, Neopia also commemorated the day with a number of Kiko tributes. While lying out in the sun, perhaps your pet and their friends could take in one of four exciting Kiko-themed books (including the action-packed Kiko Comics) or snack on some delicious gummy Kikos.
If a day at the lake isn't your Kiko's sort of thing, then perhaps they'd like to partake in some free training from Cap'n Threelegs. Once they're fighting fit, we're guessing they'll be eager to utilise some new moves and try out the latest in Kiko Battledome weaponry. Or maybe they'd rather just relax and bask in the glory of being featured in this week's Pet and Site Spotlights, along with the Poetry and Caption Contests. Then, after swinging by the Rainbow Pool to check out the two new Kiko paint brush styles (pink and plushie), they can pop over to the Art Gallery to visit the Kiko exhibit while you're picking out a new Kiko Fun Image for their pet page. Way to go, Kikos!
Now, it's time to take a closer look at today's headlines from the world of finance. The News Brief might have taken last week off, but the economy sure didn't, as the Neodaq added a whopping two-hundred points during the previous fortnight, climbing all the way to 953. Still leading the way, rather improbably, is Meri Acre Sausages, who slapped another forty-nine NPs onto their value, and are now worth a staggering 115 NPs a share. However, despite this incredible vault in profits, they still haven't managed to seize the top spot on the Big Board.
That honour would go to Fish Pops!, who picked up twenty-three point more points, and are currently worth 140 NPs a share. After SSGS and FISH, however, it's a long way down to the number three slot, which literally falls to The Smuggler's Cove. Valued at forty-one points, a share of SMUG is barely worth 1/3 what a share of the #2 company, Meri Acres Sausages, currently trades for. On the other side of the spectrum, however, a huge number of companies have climbed back over 15 NPs and resumed trading. That means there are now plenty of low-cost options for investors looking to cash in on the booming economy.
All is not well for everyone, however, as a pair of companies have failed to thrive during this latest Bull market. Since our last update, both Neggwork Commerce and Böda Furnishings have gone out of business. At a time like this, it's important for investors to remember: the potential for earnings is really high right now, but the risks are also greater than ever....
