Intruder in Neopia: Part Three

by nytewolf117

Untitled Document CB was crouched down behind a bush, wolf's tail moving silently in the air behind her. She pushed a paw forward, placing it down with incredible silence on the leaves. Eyes watched a Nimmo eating a Chocolate Brucicle move down the sidewalk. CB moved her shoulders, getting ready for a pounce. Suddenly, her ears perked and she sat upright. She turned and took two bounding leaps, before vanishing. ON the sidewalk, 84, Cloud, and Jack walked a few feet behind the Nimmo.

"Are you getting a scent?" 84 asked.

"For the last time, yes," Cloud snapped. "That's why we're walking this way."

"Well excuuuuse me," 84 snuffed. Cloud led the others off the sidewalk, and into the trees. He stopped at the side of a bush, and raised his head.

"She's been here. Very recently," he announced.

"CB, we have to talk," Jack said outloud, walking forward. Mist swirled around a nearby tree, and CB appeared, leaning against the trunk with her arms folded and the bottom of one foot against the tree.

"I'm here," she said. "What is it?"

"You know that most Neopets think you're an intruder," Jack stated.

     "I am," CB said.

"Not the way we see it," 84 contradicted. "We think you're just a human with a couple special abilities, trying to make a living in a land you're unfamiliar with."

"You're right about the abilities and the unfamiliarity with Neopia," CB said. She pulled one of her gloves tighter.

"If you're not stealing from Neopets to make a living, then why did you take that Flotsam's money?" Jack asked.

"I wasn't going for the money. I was going for the food it was carrying, but when that got dropped I took the NP instead," CB explained.

"What about the Kiko?" Cloud asked.

"It had food too. Oh, and by the way, it has been returned home."

"Well... uh..." Jack stammered, rubbing the back of his head. CB sighed softly, then looked off in one direction. Her eyes narrowed, and the blue color gave way to silver.

"Hey guys, I think you should leave," she said. She turned to the Lupes, and gasped.

"What?" 84 asked. She looked behind them, as did Jack and Cloud. The three Lupes were standing in the shadow of a huge Purple Skeith. And it didn't look happy.

"What do we do now guys?" Cloud whispered.

"Duck!" CB shouted. The Lupes looked back to her as she jumped away from the tree. Mist swirled around her, and a second later the white wolf burst through the cloud. Cloud, 84, and Jack ducked as CB sailed over them, landing on the Skeith's back with a snarl. CB reared back her head, then shot it down and sank her teeth into the Skeith's flesh. It roared in pain, then tried to buck its attacker off. The Lupes ran to one side as CB was sent flying. She turned, landed on her paws, and ran for the Skeith again. The two began to scuffle.

"What do we do?!" Cloud exclaimed. They gasped as the Skeith gave CB a swift hit on the side of her head, slamming her against the ground.

"Halt!" a voice barked. Chia police ran up to the scene. "What's going on here?" one demanded.

"This thing attacked me!" the Skeith said, pointing to the staggering wolf.

"That's the thing that's been getting other pets! Arrest it!" a cop said. The Chias began closing in on CB. She began backing up, crouching down slightly. She looked to the Lupes with an apologetic gaze, before she turned and ran off through the woods.

     "Wait!" Jack screamed after her.

"Get her!" the police chief ordered. The other cops began running after her.

"Run! It's the pet attacker!" a Shoyru screamed in fear.

"It's a wolf!" a human said in surprise.

"That's not a wolf, it's a monster!" someone else shouted. CB tore down the Neopia Central sidewalk, the cops in hot pursuit. All around her pets and people shouted, afraid. Other threw rocks and stones, some hitting, some missing. Her ears lay back as a Chia cop blew hard on his whistle.

"Someone stop that beast!" he yelled. CB leapt to the side as a Scorchio fired his flame. She skidded to a stop in front of an Eyrie with a sword, but leapt over him and kept going.

'I have to hide,' CB thought. She looked from side to side, until she finally spied an empty building. In front of it was the sign "Future home of The Corn Chip Shack." CB glanced behind her, then leapt off the path and disappeared inside the nearly completed building. The Chia cops came up seconds later, and slowed to a stop nearby.

     "Where'd it go?" one asked.

"I don't know. It was last seen in this area," another one said.

"We'll keep a watch in this area. That thing won't get away without us seeing it," a third decided. In the building CB, in human form, glanced out the window. She sighed, and sank to her knees. Moments later tears sparkled in the darkened room.

"This is not good," Jack muttered.

"What makes you think that?" Cloud said flatly.

"We have to find her. She ran this way," 84 sighed.

"Whoa. Look at all the cops," Cloud said, glancing about.

"They must be looking for her too," Jack said. The others nodded.

"We won't be able to find CB with all of the cops combing the area. We might as well just come back later," Cloud commented, shaking his head. Something rustled in the bushes along the path. A branch was moved aside by a large paw, and reddened eyes stared out through the space. There was a tinkling of glass against glass, and the branch moved back into place. The form behind the bush stepped away.

***

CB stirred. She sat up from the floor of the building, rubbing her eyes.

"I must've dozed off," she mumbled. She winced at a headache, from the Skeith's blow. As her eyes reopened they settled on a something glittering near her foot. CB blinked, reaching over to it. She picked up the jar, looking at the small Water Faerie inside.

"What in the world?" CB said. She uncorked the bottle, then watched as the Faerie floated out.

"I've been asked by someone to help you," the Faerie said. She floated up above CB's head, then waved her arms. A soft, healing light soon enveloped the teen. As it faded, the Faerie and jar vanished.

"That was... new," CB said. She put her hand on the ground, then blinked when she heard something crinkle under it. She looked down, and picked up a piece of paper.

"'Hope the Faerie healed you. I wasn't sure if she trusted me or not. Regardless, go register in Neopia. It would be the best thing to do,'" the paper read. There was no name signed. CB turned the paper over, then reread it. After the second time, she smiled, and stood up.

***

"I'm worried," Jack said. He and the others were in the living room of their NeoHome.

"We all are," Cloud sighed. The three blinked as the doorbell rang. 84 stood up, and walked over to the door. She opened it, and gasped.

"CB!" she said happily, leaping into CB's arms. Jack and Cloud looked at the door in surprise.

"Hi to you too," CB laughed.

"CB!" Jack exclaimed. He and Cloud ran over. "What happened?"

"Well, I hid out from the cops for a while. I wasn't sure what to do, until I got some sense knocked into me," CB started. She put down 84, then removed a slip of paper from her pocket. She handed it to Cloud. All 3 Lupes looked over it.

     "It's a certificate," Cloud stated.

"You... you registered?" Jack asked. CB nodded. 84 leapt up into her arms again, and hugged her.

"Yay! Now we are your pets!" she said happily. CB giggled, and nodded.

"Yep. Now you three are my pets," she repeated.

"What about you being a wanted wolf?" Cloud questioned.

"When I registered I explained everything," CB replied. "I'm off the hook," she added.

"Terrific," Jack said, smiling. "Now come inside," he requested. He and Cloud moved aside, and CB entered. As she did she turned, and looked out behind her. Off on a nearby hill a large, canine shape watched her walk into the NeoHome. When the door shut, the form moved off into the shadows. Glass clinked as the being moved, and a net waved in the breeze.
