A Guide to Winning Trophies

by solidus_snake

Untitled Document GAMES ROOM - Have you ever looked at the flash game hi-scores and wondered, "How do they get such high scores?" Or, have you ever looked at someone's trophy cabinet and wondered, "How do they get so many trophies?" This guide will help you get some easy trophies and help you on your quest for some of the tougher trophies.

Let's start off with some of the easier trophies.

Cheat!

Hey, it's Cheat. This is a classic card game. To get a trophy in this game, simply beat all the players to get your Cheat Champion trophy. You can play Cheat here!

Go! Go! Go!

This is another card game. This one isn't as well known as cheat, but it's still simple enough to play. To get your trophy, just beat all of the opponents. You can play Go! Go! Go! here.

Snow Wars

It's Battleship but with snowmen and catapults. The game is simple, click on one of the question marks and hope you hit one of your opponent's pieces. There are 10 opponents and your get a trophy after beating certain ones. There are a total of 7 pieces to hit. One is a snowman (4x4 square), a palace (4x4 square), a catapult (3x1 rectangle), a cannon (1x2 rectangle), a snowball cache (1x2 rectangle), and 2 small snowmen which are each 1x1 squares. You can play Snow Wars here. Each competition starts at the beginning of each month and ends at the end of the month. There are a total of four games, one game is played every week. If you are lucky, your opponent may not make a move in 24 hours. After 24 hours you can send them a 'move or lose' Neomail. If your opponent still has not moved after 24 hours of receiving the mail, you can automatically win the game. If you make it to the third week and lose, you'll at least get a third place trophy.

Multiplayer Games - Geos

Here's another multiplayer game. Like all multiplayer games, you have to sign up for the multiplayer competition that starts at the beginning of every month. The object of the game is to create shapes one piece at a time. The playing board is a large square and players take turns putting pieces on the board. You and your opponent cannot see each other's pieces. If you place a piece on the same space as your opponent's piece, your opponent's piece will be destroyed and you will get another turn. But if you place a piece on one of your opponent's completed shapes, the piece will stay and you will lose your turn. The same 'move or lose' rules apply to this game. If you make it to the third week or past, you will get a trophy.

Multiplayer Games - Armada

This is the last multiplayer game. It's a game of strategy played by two players. Like all multiplayer games, you have to sign up for the multiplayer competition that starts at the beginning of every month. The object of the game is to conquer as much of the board as you can, or completely annihilate your opponent's pieces. You and your opponent take turns moving ships along the board. If you move a piece into a square that is adjacent (next) to the square that the piece is on, you will create a new piece in that square. However, if you move two spaces from the square the piece is on, the piece will jump and leave its former position.

My strategy: I like to spawn pieces along the edges until I am 3 spaces from my opponent's pieces. I then spawn diagonally closer to my opponent's pieces. If my opponent does not move closer to my pieces, I will jump and take 3 pieces. This is a very important thing to look for! If you ever see 3 pieces in a straight horizontal or vertical line, go for the middle piece. Your opponent can't take back all of the pieces in one move, which gives you the upper hand. I try to avoid jumping as much as possible unless it will give me the upper hand or lure my opponent into doing something that will give me the advantage.

Mystery Pic

This is a competition that USUALLY comes out on Wednesdays. This will appear on the news page whenever a new one comes out. Players are given an enlarged picture of a picture that appears on the site and they have to try to guess what it is. This is a bit harder to get a trophy in but it's still easier than most. There is a maximum of 500 winners every week. There is really no strategy to getting the mystery picture. I've noticed that the pictures are often from new games, old caption contests, or anything new on the site. If you have explored the site a lot, you may be able to recognize the picture. Some people like to go to the 'help' chat board and ask for the answer. That works very well unless you are under 13. The Mystery Pic can be found here.

Caption Contest

This is a competition that comes out every 4 or 5 days. This will appear on the news page whenever a new one comes out. Players are given a picture and they have to think of a witty caption to go with it. If the Neopets staff decide it's good, it will be put up and players will vote for what they think is the best caption. The caption with the most votes gets a trophy. Make sure your caption is original, there's nothing less funny than a copied caption. Try to think of a caption before you read others, if you read others, you are more inclined to say something similar. You can enter the Caption Contest here.

My strategy: Pick 2 multiple-use weapons and fierce attack (or berserk attack) until I've beaten him.

That's about all for the easy trophies.

Next week: Harder trophies to get

Choosing the right font can be as important, if not more so, than choosing the right images and colours for your site. Despite this, however, it is a topic often ignored in favour of more "interesting" or "artistic" aspects of web design.
