Untitled Document PET CENTRAL - Admit it. Every single one of us, at some point, has wanted to win 1,000,000 NPs, or get that cool new paintbrush, or buy that Cool Negg. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in contests and Neofriends and paintbrushes that we forget one of the most important goals: to take care of our pets. I'm not asking you to spoil your pets silly. I couldn't have spent more than 3000 NPs on my four pets, and all of them are in a "delighted" mood. Here are 10 tried-and-true tricks to make your pet happy, healthy, and strong:

1) FEED YOUR PET! This is one of the most important things to remember. There are tons of ways to get food. I usually pay 50-100 NPs for food-doughnuts, baguettes, pretzels, fruits, veggies, and chocolate chip cookies are my pets' main diet. You can also get an omelette from Tyrannia, baked beans from Tombola or the Money Tree, or health food from Grundo's Gym-all for free! Win food from games like Dice-A-Roo, or go to the Healing Springs to fill your pet up. Don't buy food from a shop that's overpriced-why would anyone pay 8000 NPs for a loaf of bread?

2) EXERCISE OFTEN! Go to the Grundo's Gym to exercise your pets, increase your pet's agility, earn you NPs, and give you the occasional veggie! It can be extremely rewarding!

3) PLAYTIME! Your pet loves toys (who doesn't?), so play with him or her often. If you went to the Advent Calendar last December, they gave out five plushies and other various toys for absolutely no cost! The Wheel of Misfortune and the Snowager can both get you toys, too. The Toy Shop has some great deals on toys, and the Igloo Garage Sale gives out boom boxes for 80 NPs and keyrings for 20 NPs. Play with your pet once a day or two times every other day.

4) TIME FOR A BATH! Pets, especially Usuls, love being groomed. The least you should do is occasionally wash and brush your pet. I recommend grooming every two or so days, more if you want. Use soap, a brush, one hair thing (hair gel, hairspray, etc.), a "fancy" thing like makeup or perfume, and something to take care of your pet's teeth. If you check the grooming shop, you'll see that most of those things can be bought for fewer than 100 NPs.

5) STORYTIME! I've never met a Neopet who didn't like to read. Books are on the expensive side, but you can get yours for 200-500 NPs. Pets especially love reading books about their heroes and Neopet type, so read your Usul a fashion guide, read your Kyrii Confident Kyriis (it just happens to be that I have a Kyrii and Usul)…

6) LET'S EXPLORE! Over the Meridell and through the Haunted Woods, to Coltzan's Shrine we go…Exploring keeps your pets busy and happy. Note: "Exploring" does not mean "spend a lot of money." There are plenty of fun, free things to do. Read the Haiku Generator at Mystery Island, go window-shopping for Merry Outfits at Happy Valley, or play Mummy Maze at Lost Desert.

7) VACATION! If your Neopet is stressed, tired, or recovering from a disease, a trip to the Neolodge will do it good. Does your pet love Meridell? Give him or her a visit to the Ye Old Ship Inn. Have a Usul? Send her to the Neolodge with room service and grooming. Feel like splurging on your depressed Neopet? Send it to dazzling Astrovilla to help it relax.

8) PYP! That stands for Pamper Your Pet! There are many ways to do this. First, groom your Neopet and fill it up with a light snack. Then take him or her to a concert, on a Tiki Tour, or to a dinner at the Golden Dubloon. I do this often. Afterwards, I remove the makeup with soap and a towel, give my pet a cup of tea, read him or her a story, and put it to bed.

9) ITCHY SCRATCHIES! There are several diseases that your Neopet can catch. The only reason I called this "Itchy Scratchies" is because my Kyrii caught that disease three times and my Usul caught it once! If your Neopet is sick, please give it a cure immediately. After it is cured, he or she will still be low on hit points, so raise those points with a refreshing drink, a medicinal plant, a trip to the Healing Springs, or a Neolodge visit.

10) I'M NOT A TOY! Our beloved pets have feelings. They like some things and don't like other things. I'm sure that they don't like being treated like new toys. All of the pets are beautiful (except for Skeiths). So why is it that people think that they absolutely must paint their pet? I'm not talking about people who have painted their pet once. I'm talking about people who paint their pets with the Halloween paintbrush, then Christmas, then desert, baby, and Faerie. They're the first to get the new paint brush and paint their pets with it. If you do that, then you're treating your Neopet like an easel. And you're wasting a lot of NPs, too! Or someone who gets a pet and abandons it because another one looks cuter. These things make your pet feel awful! When you get a Neopet, just like a real pet, it should be a commitment for as long as you play Neopets. And stay away from paintbrushes. If you win one, it's fine to paint your pet. But if you use these ten tips, you'll give your pet a beautiful, happy glow and smile, something that a paint brush can never achieve.
