Who Are You Calling Disgusting? by flipp_garuda | |
RAINBOW POOL - "Yuck! What is that?" That, I'm sure, would be referring to
mutants. Some of their potions are cheap, their colours are considered ugly
and are drastically undervalued. Of course, the only ones considered excellent
are the more expensive ones or the ones that are popular or rare pets. Why is
this? Because a lot of people nowadays think only for expensive colours or rare
pets. I myself have browsed the pound and had the impulse to adopt the first
painted or rare pet I saw, but if you think about it, what fun is that? You
don't get the happiness you get when you save up and paint your own pet, the
pet you adopt probably won't have any personality. But then again, why give
them personality? Neopets is just another place to show off what you can do.
Now, I'm not saying everyone is like this. There are definitely exceptions.
Some people honestly don't like a mutant's colour or don't think it would fit
their pet, and that doesn't bother me, or anyone else I know.
"Mutants are like any other pet and frankly I have nothing against them. To
say the least, I was ecstatic when on my lab ray account, my Lupe was turned
mutant," comic writer 2Hot4U181 commented. "Certain mutants do scare people
a bit, but I think they're all cool in their own way. I mean there are actual
mutants in the human race (I am acquainted with one...) so I think we should
accept them."
Mutants may look a little strange, but all pets look different, just like
people. Colour and appearance should not matter on Neopets, just as it shouldn't
matter in the real world.
"Ha ha ha! Mutants are funny. Look at the mutant Usul, it's as cute as a wiggly
little bug on a rug. And I used to own a mutant Techo too. I wouldn't consider
a single one ugly unless they made a mutant Meerca." Al_the_Chia shuddered.
"Mutant pets can actually be very appealing and exotic when compared to something
ditzy and common like a Faerie Usul. Mutant pets aren't the creepy ones here."
"I think that mutants are great. Personally I think the Mutant Scorchio is
the best looking of its species and I feel the same about the Mutant Lupes and
Korbats. I have nothing against mutants. I have three of them," AVeryAngryShaylir
admitted.
And if you look around you, you'll find that painted pets are what makes people
more popular on Neopets. Especially the more rare or expensive your pet looks.
Mutant pets just simply don't cut it. Why? Some potions, like Lupe Transmogrification
Potion and Scorchio Transmogrification Potions, are pretty expensive, but people
find that they don't look expensive, so, of course, people don't want them.
I'm not saying that people should not paint their pets or not buy expensive
things, but some people choose not to feed their pets that Transmogrification
Potion simply because it's not socially acceptable. For people like me, and
maybe you, it's much better to just ditch the social bindings and paint your
pets what you like simply because you like it or it fits your pet. A lot of
these things revolves around creating a personality for your pets, making them
"real."
Many people believe that Mutant pets are disgusting, in pain or are overly
violent or something like that. But they may be a little torn up, or have a
few bulbous spots on them, but they're no different than Halloween or Baby pets,
they look differently, too. If you can't see beyond what others tell you is
cool, then you shouldn't be on Neopets. If you like something, then, by all
means get it. Whether you have to work for it or not work at all, in the end
it will be much more satisfying than to paint your pet what someone else tells
you. And if you think Mutants are disgusting or mean, other pets can be that
way, too.
"I don't really notice I'm mutant," said Lord_Tahu, a Mutant Kougra. "It's
not as if it hurt becoming the way I am, and it definitely doesn't hurt now.
I'm not dirty or disgusting, I don't consider myself ugly, and I'm not violent
or stupid. If people want to think I am, fine, but they're not seeing who I
really am, and that's their loss." |
