MERIDELL - We all know about the current war between the two kingdoms, Meridell
and Darigan. Meridell stole an apparently valuable Orb from the other, and consequently
the Darigan was hideously mutated. Now Darigan is out for revenge, and is seemingly
likely to win if things carry on as they are. So, what will happen if Darigan
wins?! We can only guess.
Well, we know that Darigan was mutated after the Orb was stolen, but was that
coincidence or was it through some fault of the Orb? Few people are seeing it
as a coincidence, this writer included. Still, the idea is out there, and it
may happen that if Darigan takes the Orb absolutely nothing will happen to either
kingdom. So in that case we have nothing to worry about.
But the facts don't point that way, and it seems that if Darigan wins Meridell
is doomed. But what exactly will happen? Will all the Graphics be changed so
every one and thing is Mutated? I hope not, if we want monsters we can go to
the Haunted Woods. Maybe the Neopets staff won't go to that trouble, and instead
just edit the whole thing out. No more Meridell. Mind you, if they instead added
Darigan as a new place in Neopia to visit, would it be so bad, really?
Let's take a look at Meridell.
Let's start off with King Skarl: Does anyone actually get to talk to him, hear
him make decisions? Nope, he just sits around all day. If you have a corrupt
king, a corrupt country is sure to follow, and Meridell is no exemption. Next
we'll have a look at the Kings Treasurer. He gambles with the Kings money, cheats,
uses double tailed coins and to top it off lies to the king about his using
his treasury. Not a good look. Well, here are Meristones and Meriball, good
games with good rewards to be won. Good show, old chaps.
Now, as we travel into the country we see some better things to do, except
for that mean, cruel game that gets you covered in goop six times out of ten.
Yes, Kiss the Mortog. No profits to be made by you, no kindness done to the
Mortogs. Also there we see the great petpet Turmaculus, Illusens Glade, Shape
shifter, Round Table Poker and Ultimate Bullseye. Good games, if a little hard
to play. I'm sure we don't want to see them go, especially that earth faerie
we all know and some of us love, Illusen. Will she be mutated if the Orb is
stolen? I hope not.
Now we step out further into the country, to Meri Acres Farm, and the boredom
begins. Yay, let's play with vegetables and pay Neopoints to do it. Whoohoo.
Time of my life. Let's try the thrills and chills of counting potatoes. The
excitement and horror of guessing the weight of a marrow. The amazement and
triumph of finding piles of dung and half eaten berries under bushes. I think
I've made my point.
So, in summary, is Meridell really worth it all? I'm not sure. Maybe if we
lose Meridell, it might just be an asset, especially if we gain Darigan, Which
might have better games and a less corrupt king. Let's face it, who plays at
Meridell that much anyway, meaning no disrespect to those who do. Maybe a new
place to visit is just what Neopia needs to keep those people coming in and
staying in. I'll leave it up to you to make a decision, and I hope I've given
you all something to think about. |
