More from the Case Files of Dark Night

by 2hot4u181

Foreword: Dark Night is a private eye, gumshoe, whatever you wanna call 'im. He's a shadow Shoyru with a bad 'tude, a thing for neocola and a weird fedora and trench coat. He's made his mark as a private eye and wished me to write his stories from his case files.

I was about to head off to lunch when the dame's scream hit my ear. It was the octave reserved only for howling Lupes but it meant I had a case. After all, I ain't a musician I'm a private eye. It says so on my office door.

The dame looked distressed as if she had lost her mind. I figured she had lost her mind before hand, but one can't choose their clients. Apparently my services to high_Flyer74 had spread. My client was now Capara the Kyrii.

"Hey you're Dark night ain't ya?" the Kyrii OOZED with charm. I got a thing for girls with charm.

"Yeah that'd be me. What can I do for ya?" I flirted a bit. I had gotten in trouble with the Neopets team before for this. But I'm a force of habit.

"I got a case for you," she uttered. She grabbed my hand tightly and almost seemed to carry me to the crime scene.

Quickly Capara threw me down by my trench coat collar. It seemed like her house was done by an insane decorator or someone in a big hurry to get out. This was a total junkyard.

"Wha' happened?" I asked taking note of every position possible.

"I don't know. That's why I hired you!" Capara replied.

"Right," I said looking around the room carefully picking up shattered pieces of glass. "You have insurance right?"

"Yes, they should pay for the damage."

"Good. Was anything taken?" I questioned.

"I don't know. I think my jade scorch stone," Capara replied flatly.

     "Where was it located?"

"Right here," the Kyrii replied pointing to the centre of the fire place mantel.

"I see. And nothing else is taken?" I slowly walked around dusting for finger prints the best I could. After all, Neopets don't have fingers.

     "Nope," she replied.

"I need to think. I'll be back," I replied.

I couldn't find a single clue so I walked out into the door into the pouring rain. Questions flooded my mind. Who was this thug? Why'd he steal a jade scorchstone to begin with? What was he or she hoping to accomplish? I headed back to my office on first street and dug through my files. A few ideas came to mind in terms of the culprit. Maybe Spectre the old con artist was behind this break-in.

I walked past the old news-stand on the corner of first and third but I had to do a double take. Apparently Spectre was now a battle dome contestant. I knew it had to do with my case. Especially since the article said old Spec had a jade scorch stone. I phoned Capara.

"I got a lead on the case," I said rapidly.

"Great. So who's the thief?" Capara asked frantically.

     "Spectre," I uttered.

"Oh," she replied. I noticed her voice tone changed from happy to awkwardly depressed.

"Meet me at the Battledome in 5 minutes sharp. MAIN Battledome," I instructed as I hurried out to grab the nearest taxi.

Within a matter of moments I had successfully snuck into the Battledome and I somehow found the locker rooms and carefully picked the lock. To my great surprise Capara was in the locker room already exchanging an evil laugh with Spectre.

"Only a fool would take such as case," Spectre laughed as he spotted me.

"Fool am I?" I growled as I lifted myself up off the floor and revealed a friend who's very close to my heart. He made three intelligent statements as I tried to flee. I always like to leave when the talk is a little too philosophical. However I didn't get the chance.

"You ain't going nowhere," Capara said in a low tone.

It hit me. They were just using me as a pawn in their vile chess game and trying to pin the crime on me! I wouldn't let it happen. Sadly against Spectre's brute strength I stood a fraction of a chance. I'd try it anyway.

"HEY UGLY!" I shouted, using myself as bait," You're so stupid that I know turkey dinners who are smarter then you!"

At that moment Spectre lunged at me. I screamed like a prissy school girl, sorry to say. But luckily those prissy screams alerted the Chia police who came thundering down the steps and burst into the locker room as if they were shot out of a frost cannon. The finally got that ugly jetsam off of me, and helped me up. I sighed, losing the fun of making an arrest once again.

I headed out the door back to my office. I was on the fifth floor and tired so I opened a can of neocola. A loud annoying beep alerted me of an incoming fax. I hoped it wasn't another case. However, to my great surprise it was from the REAL owner of the Scorch Stone, a Miss Pop tart. Pop Tart explained that HER house was the one broken into a month ago (I recalled hearing about it, but I only take jobs I'm hired to do.) It seemed Capara only MADE it appear her home was broken into. I was a little shocked to have solved a case for a staff member but I was richly rewarded by receiving the scorch stone as a small thank-you present.

I still have that scorch stone in my office, but it's under all the clutter on my desk. But I'm still lucky to have it. Especially since it's autographed by the entire Neopets staff. Yet for some reason it smells of dung. I can't imagine why.

There are some things not even the best detectives can solve.

The End

Note: Dark Night is a character similar to 'Tracer Bullet' of "Calvin and Hobbes" fame. Night is no way related to Bullet, and wants it to stay that way. The dung reference is held to Mr. Shankly in the kindest regards. Many thanks to SoggyDude for aiding me in editing, and improving the story! Thank you.
