"Uh, Yirv, my Alkenore isn't feeling well." That's one
of the reasons why my good friend Yirvee E. (Emma) Poogle became a Petpet Detective,
as well as a Petpet doctor. She was really a professional, especially when it
came down to helping poor Petpets who were in trouble or needed a remedy from
the horrible sicknesses that only Yirvee could recognise.
Why had she become so good with Petpets? Well,
that's a good question. Only few Neopets know why, such as myself, Little_Nylorac,
one of her best friends. Where should I start...
The day was so dismal; salty drops of rain had
been perpetually coming out of the sky, the clouds were a dark gray, and that
wasn't a good thing. Yirvee had wanted to go flying with me and test out my
new Alkenore's pretty pink wings.
"Why, why, why?!" Yirvee exclaimed in pure frustration.
"I hate when it rains! I hate when the clouds are gray! I hate when I cannot
keep my promises, especially promises I made to you Ny."
Yirvee looked out my foggy layered window. She
pressed her face against it and felt the cold glass, cooling her down.
I looked at my friend and tried to keep myself
from shedding a tear. I had never seen her so sad, so frustrated in my whole
Neolife. Suddenly, without explanation, my Alkenore Maercal started turning
into an orange colour, followed by a purple and then a striking yellow colour
"Uh, Yirv," I started. "I think there is something
wrong with Maercal."
Yirvee turned around from the windowsill to take
a look at my pink Alkenore.
"Did Maercal eat anything unusual?" Yirvee inquired.
"I don't know, but I didn't feed her anything."
I gave a quick glance at Yirvee. "Will she be all right?"
Without giving me an answer, Yirvee quickly opened
up her 'Guidebook of the Petpets Version 106 G-S.' She flipped through the pages
furiously until she arrived at the Sicknesses. Reading quickly, she found what
she was looking for.
"Here it is," Yirvee said as she started to recite
the words, which were trivial. It looked like someone had written them onto
this very bulky book. "Number eighteen. When a Petpet starts shifting into the
following colours: Orange, Purple, and Yellow, and in some cases Blue, it means
-"
Yirvee stopped.
"It means what?" I asked.
Yirvee looked up at me, returned to the book,
and completed the sentence.
"It means your Petpet has an extreme case of
Cloratitus." Yirvee gave me an apprehensive look. "The only cure for this is
a bottle of Healing potion M."
"Healing potion M! Of course!" I said hastily.
"I'll get one of those at the healing springs." I went over to get my coat and
was just about to put on my scarf when Yirvee stopped me.
"Healing potion M," Yirvee said, "is the rarest
of the Healing potions. Some even say it doesn't exist. Others say it's a legend.
I doubt they will have them at the Healing Springs, but I think I do know where
I could get one."
Quickly, Yirvee and I put on our raincoats and
headed out the door. I cuddled Maercal in my arms and covered her with a blanket
to keep her out of the rain.
"This way!" Yirvee shouted over the shrill drops
of rain and, pointing towards a large tree, ran under it. Swiftly, I ran under
the tree behind her.
"What now?" I asked Yirvee.
"We need to fly towards Jhudora's cloud,"
Yirvee replied. My mouth dropped to the ground.
"But... why? It's too risky to fly in this weather."
"There are very few Healing potion M's in Neopia,"
Yirvee said. "I saw one in Jhudora's Chair when I was doing a quest for her
last week. I bet it's still there."
"How do you know for sure it's still there?"
I asked. "For all we know she could have given it to somebody by now."
Yirvee eyed me.
"Well, it's a chance we have to take. If we wait
any longer your Alkenore will be dust by sunrise."
I took a deep breath and squeezed Maercal. I
started to flap my wings, taking off into the sky and the drenching rain in
a direction that was away from everywhere I felt safe into a land of misery
and evil...
The flight was long and perilous. Flying next
to the ex-skydiver Poogle Yirvee made it feel a tad safer. Sometimes, Maercal
would whimper because of the speed I was flying at, but I had to go quickly.
When we arrived on Jhudora's cloud, I set my feet firmly onto the cloud and
sniffed the air. It smelled of waste and rubbish. I rubbed my eyes and looked
around, wondering if I could see the palace that was Jhudora's home. I had done
a few quests, but I never remembered landing on this side of the cloud before.
Once Yirvee landed, I scrambled towards her.
"Where are we?" I asked at once.
"South of Jhudora's palace," Yirvee replied.
"But I don't see her palace."
"That's because we're under it."
I looked up and saw a majestic palace. It had
golden cobwebs and green, slimy emerald glowing goop running up and down its
walls.
"Has Jhudora remodeled?" I asked. Not really
caring, I shrugged and headed after Yirvee, who was already flying towards the
palace.
It was a short, simple flight. When we arrived,
a rather sick looking Faerie Blumaroo was running out of the palace doors.
"Jhudora has cursed me! Jhudora has cursed me!"
he shrieked. He ran past me, jumped into the sky, and flew away. While I was
looking at him, a scratchy, haunting voice crawled up my back and into my pointy
ears. It was Jhudora.
"Ah hah! It's you, the little rascal who rejected
my quest when I asked for a Faerie Paint Brush." I turned around and saw that
Yirvee was already in the palace. I quietly went in.
"Jhudora, you would've given me a bottle of sand
in return!" Yirvee snapped.
"Well, at least it would've been a bottle of
black sand. Jhudora cackled and eyed Yirvee. "What is it you want? Another quest?
Well, this time you'll have to start from the beginning." Jhudora flipped her
purple, green highlighted hair.
"I don't want another quest. Just a--" I interrupted.
"We want the Healing Potion M."
Jhudora growled at me.
"Healing Potion M?" Jhudora asked. "Sorry, but
that's a TAD TO MUCH TO ASK FOR!" She quickly pulled out the Healing Potion
M from under her seat and polished it with her two purple, green finger-nailed
hands. "Quiet now. Momma has you," Jhudora said insanely. She got of her seat
and strolled up and down the long palace isles, passing Yirvee and myself several
times. She opened her mouth, but no words came out. Suddenly, she began to talk.
"While I was walking up and down, viewing my
beautiful artifacts, I thought of something that'll help you get the Healing
Potion M for whatever reason you need it." I uncovered Maercal from the blanket
and showed Jhudora the bad case of Cloratitus. "I see the little Alkenore has
got something to be ashamed of," Jhudora cackled. "Anyway, as I was saying,
if you really want this healing potion, you need to bring me back some acorns.
Not just any acorn... Faerie Acorns."
I almost dropped to the floor faintly.
"Faerie Acorns!" Yirvee yelped. "That's impossible
for any one of us to afford and you know it, Jhudora."
Jhudora let out a daunting laugh that made me
shiver. "You either get me the Faerie Acorns or you'll have to buy a new Alkenore."
I looked at Maercal. Cute petite wings, loveable eyes, and an adorable nose.
There was no way I was going to let this Alkenore turn to dust. Suddenly, a
feeling of bravery I had never felt before emerged within me. I gave Maercal
to Yirvee to hold and took out my Poogle Sword.
"Listen, Jhudora," I said firmly. "How about
we battle for the healing potion?" Jhudora carefully took out her Crystal Boomerang.
"It would be my honour." Swiftly, Jhudora threw
the Crystal Boomerang directly at me. A loud screech filled the air as she threw
it. I jumped into the air, the crystal boomerang barely missing me. It returned
to Jhudora's hand.
"Very good, my young Poogle," Jhudora said. "But
can u dodge this?" She took out her Air faerie sword and vertically sliced at
me with it. I defended myself with my Poogle sword but knew it was no match
for hers. Quickly, I flew up into the air and pointed my sword at her, ready
to puncture her. Jhudora spun around, dodging my attack and pierced me right
in the arm.
"Aghh!" I shrieked. Due to my injury, I dropped
my sword and the blade plunged into the ground.
"NY!" Yirvee screamed. She rushed over to where
I had dropped, kneeling over me. "No..." Yirvee couldn't complete her sentence;
she started to weep. "Ny, I'm so sorry! This is my entire fault. If I had just-"
"Yirvee," I interrupted. "Sh, you cannot speak
any longer. I'm going to faint. You cannot let her win. Maercal cannot turn
into dust."
Yirvee picked me up and placed me into a seat.
"Don't fall asleep," Yirvee said. With that,
she turned around, picked up the Poogle sword, and looked directly into Jhudora's
eyes.
"This battle won't end until the Alkenore turns
to dust," Yirvee said. She lifted into the air and got into position, as did
Jhudora.
"And the fight commences," Jhudora said heartily.
She swerved from side to side; attempted to give Yirvee a stab but was blocked
by Yirvee's quick defensive movements. Yirvee spun around and kicked Jhudora
in the shin.
"Ouch!" Jhudora cried. With Jhudora open for
attack, Yirvee flew straight towards her and thrust the sword into her arm.
"Looks like I win," Yirvee exclaimed.
"Not just yet-OW!" Jhudora screeched. "Would
you stop digging your sword into my arm? I paid a bundle of Neopoints for the
body paint--OWWW! Okay, okay, here's the healing potion." Jhudora handed the
Healing Potion to Yirvee.
Yirvee landed and took off the wooden cork from
the top of the bottle. White, sparkly fumes came out of the bottle making a
'whoosh' sound. Yirvee mixed it a little and gave Maercal a few sips of it.
Maercal's colour shifting stopped, and her body turned to pure pink. She skipped
towards Yirvee and gave her a smile and a friendly lick on the face. Yirvee
gave her a few pats, and then sent her to me. I looked at Yirvee and gave her
a friendly smile.
"Ny!" Yirvee exclaimed. "Hurry! Take this!" She
poured the rest of the healing potion into my mouth; sudden warmth encompassed
me. I looked at my arm. It was completely healed. I hugged Yirvee.
"Thank you so much, Yirvee!"
