Stretching, Rhapsody rolled out of her bed making a loud
thump against the floor as her hooves clomped on the hard wooden surface. Not
bothering to make her bed she trotted dazedly out of her room and down the hallway
. It was early, and bars of golden sunlight seeped in through the curtains brightly
lighting the cozy little NeoHome. With a yawn, the faerie Kau entered the kitchen
to find her owner and her three siblings already awake and eating breakfast.
Shaylir, Their owner, was in the middle of a sentence.
"Yes, I know how much you like Asparagus Omelette's
Darkwise...but all we have at the moment is Neoflakes until I get the chance
to go shopping. All right? Besides, We're low on NP at the moment, I'd really
like to save so we can all go on vacation to Mystery Island as a family,"
she told Darkwise, her Krawk brother. He only scowled in return as he angrily
swirled his spoon around the neoflakes he had just been served. Darkwise was
a bitter cynical pet, who had nothing better to complain about everything.
Myyth, on the other hand, was her Eyrie brother
who wanted to take over Neopia and that was why Rhapsody had been sent to watch
him. Now he was staring into space, his expression was one of deep thought as
he mindlessly nibbled at his neoflakes. Shaeylan, Rhapsody's sister, and literally
Myyth's partner in crime was yawning as she dove in her own cereal.(At the moment
she was a Desert Kau, but her species changed often because she was the family
lab pet, but by her own choice.)
"Good Morning Rhapsody. Here, I've already poured
you a bowl of cereal," Shaylir told the Faerie Kau briskly as she set it
on the table in between Darkwise and Shaeylan. Rhapsody smiled slightly and
nodded her head in thank as she took her seat the table to begin eating.
"I'm done, I'm going to go see if Anupti is home..."
Darkwise grumbled under his breath as he picked up his bandana from the counter
and tied it around his white hair. Anupti was the only friend Darkwise had,
and nobody in the family could quite figure out how she had made Darkwise come
out of his shell. Nobody asked in fear of getting on Darkwise's bad side. With
that, Darkwise shoved his bowl and the sink and was out of the house.
Shaylir rolled her eyes visibly at the Krawk's
actions as she cleaned his bowl and put it away. Her eyes wandered to the other
side of the kitchen and she smacked her forehead.
"I almost forgot! There were too packages out
front this morning for You and Myyth Rhapsody...let me go get them for ya,"
Shaylir said, running her hand through her short black hair as she placed the
rag she had been using to clean Darkwise's dish on the counter and went into
the other room to retrieve the packages.
Shaeylan and Myyth exchanged quizzical glances
and Rhapsody only blinked in befuddlement. Neither of them had any idea who
would send them a package out of the blue. A few moments later Shaylir returned
with two almost identical packages. The both were the same size and shape, and
were covered it small marble sized holes. The only difference was that the box
that had Myyth's name tag on it was dark purple with a dark green border around
it. Rhapsody's, on the other hand, was light green with a brown border.
"Here you guys go. I have no idea where they
came from but...go ahead and open them," Shaylir told her two pets with
a shrug. Shaeylan looked slightly offended that she didn't get a package, but
then her little blue Alkenore came sidling up to her and comforted her. She
was pacified.
Slowly Rhapsody removed the top to her box, but
before she could let her eyes adjust to the seemingly bottomless darkness of
it a blur of yellow leapt out landing right in her bowl of cereal. After pushing
a neoflake out of its small little blue tuft of hair, It looked up at the faerie
Kau and grinned broadly. It was a Kookith.
"Hey Hey! I'm Guardian! Nice to meetcha...I was
sent by... erm, well I'll tell ya later!" The little kookith said cheerfully
as she saw that Rhapsody's owner was there. The little kookith was not at all
phased by the fact that it was sitting in a bowl of neoflakes.
"Guardian...?" Rhapsody was completely surprised
and had no idea how to react. Somebody had sent her a Petpet? But why? "Well,
It is a pleasure to meet you too Guardian, but how do you know my name...? And
who would give me such a great gift?" For it was a great gift. Petpets were
wonderful to have, and they made great companions. But for some reason Rhapsody
had a feeling Guardian was not only going to be a companion, but a comrade as
well.
"All in do time my friend! All in do time! Why
don't you show me around your NeoHome? Eh?" Guardian asked with a grin and an
exaggerated wink. Rhapsody got the point, It wanted to explain to her what was
going on but without the company of her owner and siblings. Shaylir just stood
there, dumbstruck. It was not every day your pet received a Petpet in the mail
from some mysterious unknown deity. She only shook her head and muttered to
herself. "Sometimes I wonder how I got myself into this family..." With that
she was out the front door. "I'm going to go shopping, get you guys some real
food," was all she said before she was gone.
Shaylir and Rhapsody had both been so immersed
in the Kookith that they hadn't noticed Myyth and Shaeylan sneak down into their
secret lair with the unopened package. The package was bouncing all over the
place as Myyth placed it carefully on one of his lab tables and tore the top
off. Out of the darkness a small black creature shot out, stopping to hover
right in front of Myyth's face.
"Greetings, I am Minion. I have been sent by
Jhudora to be your personal minion, hence my name," the little black flame
Petpet, a Moltenore, said in a stoic voice. He fluttered his wings slightly
as he perched onto Myyth's shoulder.
"Do you know what this means Myyth? Jhudora...supporting
us? This is absolutely grand!" Shaeylan exclaimed excitedly watching the little
Moltenore's every movement.
"A Black Moltenore, What a perfect pet for a
villain of my calibre." Myyth smirked slightly as he looked up at his little
Petpet. "You and I will get along just fine." The pet pet nodded briskly, and
Shaeylan grinned.

"So, Guardian, Please explain to me who you were sent by and why?" Rhapsody
whispered hoarsely as she shut the door to her room and plopped down on the
ground to get a closer look at the little kookith.
"I was sent by Illusen, to kind of be your guardian
and stuff. Y'know? You see, Illusen found out that Jhudora has secretly been
helping Myyth out with his Neopia Domination plans. And you know how much Illusen
despises Jhudora...so naturally she has to oppose everything she does. She also
knows you're good friends with Fyora, and she figured that it's always nice
to help a friend's friend when in need," Guardian told her with a quick
bob of its head.
"Illusen? Helping me? Why this is wonderful!
Absolutely grand! Thank you! Thank you so much! I'm sure you will be a wonderful
help against Myyth!" Rhapsody exclaimed and with a sudden show of gratitude
she wrapped the little Kookith up in a hug. She was so ecstatic. Ever since
she had come to live with this family she never really felt quite right. Never
really felt like she belonged. But now she had somebody who knew her reason
for being here. Somebody who she could confide in. She was no longer alone.
She had an ally to help her.
"Hey Hey! Watch it!" the little Kookith shouted
out with a grin. "You're cutting off the circulation to my head, and y'know,
my head is pretty much my whole body!" it said jokingly as it returned the hug.
Rhapsody chuckled good-naturedly as she released the little kookith from the
hug.
"I'm sorry," Rhapsody told the kookith earnestly,
then she wondered out loud suddenly. "Hmm...how on Neopia could Jhudora be helping
Myyth out secretly...?"
"I have no idea, We'll find out later. Besides,
You have got to tell me exactly what has been going on since you've gotten here!
And I want every detail!" Guardian told Rhapsody with a grin. Rhapsody smiled
back, so happy that she finally had somebody to turn to.
"Well it all started when..." and she began to
tell Guardian of all the events that had happened since she had arrived in her
new home.
