Tips For a Neopian Back-to-School

by leb388

NEOPIA CENTRAL - Ready or not, here it comes again: back-to-school. As a survivor of last year's back-to-school while on Neopets, I feel I'm qualified to give you some pointers. Most of you in the older crowd with kids are bouncing off the walls with glee at the thought of more computer time, or even if you don't have kids you'll notice that between the hours of 4:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. NST, Neopets will load faster and you'll have a better chance to buy things from the shops due to a lack of visitors who are at school. But for the rest of us, especially if you're like me and are entering your freshman year of high school (Or even college!), you're resenting that final day that means summer is over. Heck, some of you have already gone back to school!

But it's a given that you're going to be spending less time on Neopets. Here's a guide to make sure your Neopets aren't as unhappy as you are--and even make yourself feel a little better.

  • Give your Neopets something to do. Since you'll be logging online less, right before you sign off, play with, feed (if necessary), and maybe even enroll your pet in a training course. Also make sure that they read plenty of books. Can't be online every day? Put them in the Neolodge (below) or get them a cool, yet cheap, petpet like an Abominable Snowball or Spyder.

  • Never accept Neositters. Neositters are people claiming to take care of your pets while you're away by logging into your account with your password. Ninety-nine percent of the time, however, they're just scammers wanting to take your account. If you know you'll be too busy to sign on for three days or more, then put your pets in the Neolodge (in the Shops section), and they'll be happy and fed if you can't be there. Heck, it might be the last vacation they get this year!

  • Splurge on what you want. Been dying for a Faerie Paintbrush, and finally have the Neopoints? Well, you've been scrimping and saving all summer--it's time to reward yourself. But also try to clear out your Safety Deposit Box some to make room for new back-to-school and Christmas items (That's right--Christmas! The Advent Calendar is just three months away!).

  • Wait to create or adopt. If you've got 1-3 pets, don't get another one just yet. You're just getting adjusted to returning to school, and another pet will be a hassle now. Wait until around December when you're used to being in school (as if), when you have a week or more off for Christmas break, and when the Advent Calendar is giving away free treats.

  • Keep updated with Neopets. Just checking the News page twice a week and reading the Editorial and Articles pages of The Neopian Times will help keep you updated so you won't miss the Meridell war, or the coming of Neoschools for your pet (Pretty soon you can grieve over September together!) Or, ask a trusted friend (note the "trusted" part) who goes online a lot to call you when something big happens or tell you at school what's going on with Neopets.

  • Buy Neoschool Items. When you're not shopping for things in real life for yourself, you can get some cool back-to-school stuff for your pets online (At cheaper prices than just a few months ago!), such as Chia Pencil Holders, if you haven't already. As stated above, no one really knows when Neoschools will come out or what they'll do, so be prepared. Click here for the full gallery of Neopets back-to-school items for your pets.

  • Stop by Limited Too or Claire's. By just getting something simple, such as a notebook, you can be reminded of Neopets when you're at school. Don't get too carried away, however! Too much Neopets stuff can be distracting and irritating if you're trying to stay off-line to concentrate on homework.

  • Enter something to The Neopian Times. Why not? If you're going to have to go back to school and be online less, and you have something that's been stored since who-knows-when on your hard drive, you might as well update it and send it in for a shot at getting in the Times. And if you don't have anything written yet, maybe you could try something having to do with back-to-school (ex.: "My Neopets Going to School"). Be warned, though--waiting days on end for the next Neopian Times is torture!

  • Record your summer. While it's still here, write a few entries in your Neodiary (Or, if you're too young--under 13--to access the "Neomail" section of the yellow sidebar, write up a quick summary in a writing program like Wordpad or Word.). Write something like, "This summer started out lazily due to lack of anything new going on in Neopia, but _ happened, then Meridell was discovered! I love _ now. My goal is to have _ Neopoints by next year and _ Neofriends. This summer has been a success due to..." or create your own original entry.

Well, I hope I've helped you handle the pain of back-to-school. Don't give up or give away your Neopets; you'll regret it a lot come next summer. That's right, summer will come once again. No summer lasts forever, but, unfortunately, no school year skips its turn.
