Slorgs Have Feelings, Too! by zooface | |

NEOPIA CENTRAL - I am writing in response to the Petpet
survey released by Neopets on July 19. This letter is part of our new
cause as of four days past: People for the Ethical Treatment of Slorgs (PETS).
It will begin enlightening Neopians to this association within FTAN
by providing its brief but eventful history.
I took the survey a couple days from its launch. Though hardly upset, I was
quite surprised to learn I am like a Slorg, the loveable Petpet closely resembling
the Earth's slug. Furthermore, no explanation was offered. As with all things
Neopets, I headed to the guild message board to discuss the survey with friends.
My fellow member informed me that "Everyone is a Slorg" and "They rigged it
on purpose". I then realised, with increasing alarm, that the survey authors
intended 'Slorg' to be an insult. PETS took form in my mind almost immediately.
Thanks to the caring and concerned nature of our guild, the campaign expanded
exponentially.
"What's the big deal?" you may be wondering. "It was a joke!" True, it may
have all been in the name of fun, but at what expense? Whether or not it was
done with good intentions, our interpreter told us the Slorgs interviewed were
clearly distressed at this gross victimisation. They are living creatures like
any other, happy and proud to be who they are. As most Slorg owners probably
know, these Petpets are loyal, companionable, and affectionate! There is no
basis for this unexpected stab at them. If it were a regular occurrence to poke
fun at all Petpets, no one would think twice. However, this is not the case!
The only possible explanation for this unprovoked attack is jealousy over Slorgs'
well-established and non-controversial role in our NeoHomes. The average Neopian
must be able to see this atrocity and speak out against it, for the sake of
Neopia's peaceful existence!
PETS is also looking into the future with the possibility of preventative
measure. This isolated incident has caused enough heartache for these unfortunate
Slorgs. If this problem is not nipped at the bud, it will grow into a major
problem that regular Neopians can do nothing about! Keep in mind that this is
a game that many impressionable young pets play. What are we teaching them?
Obviously, the survey's authors did not consider its far-reaching implications.
For these reasons, PETS has set out, with this letter, to condemn the author
of the Petpet survey. We also aim to educate fellow Neopians and encourage them
to voice their opinions. This may sound presumptuous to seasoned Neopians, but
doesn't Neopets have laws protecting animals as Canada, the USA, and all civil
countries do? Obviously, this survey steps well beyond the boundaries of ethical
Slorg treatment!
I hope that you can hear me, Neopia, and let it be known that we will not
tolerate Slorg abuse! |
