NEOPIA CENTRAL - You're probably asking, "What's more to know about Neopets
besides what the next plushie is going to be at Limited Too or Claire's?" I
mean, some of you Neopian players who have played Neopets since it was created
(or around there) know a whole lot of things about Neopets.
But what about the others? The ones who have only played for less than a year?
What about the newbies? I for one did not know anything about Neopets since
February 2001 when I saw my friend playing it. Then soon after that I asked
her what to do and how to join (even though there was a link right in the front
After I scrolled down that Web page and filled in the required information
and created my first pet, Shoyrula7, like any other, I was ADDICTED. With the
smart little yellow bar on the side and the colourful maps, who wouldn't fall
prey to such an incredible site? But still, Neopets was foreign to me. For weeks
I did not know how to feed my pet so he remained 'dying'. In fact, my pet wasn't
even born yet. And Neopoints? What were Neopoints? Well, it was my time to learn
with trial and error...
In addition, you know what? I have never told anyone about this before but...
I didn't know about the newbie packs that you get when you start Neopets (inventory
newbie packs) so I ended up actually opening it about a half year later.
Now, I know a lot of stuff about Neopets but there was still more to learn.
I wanted to know more about Neopets. What Neopia was like before I joined. Through
the past week I've been doing quite an extensive research and some of the things
that you are about to read for the rest of my article might shock you silly.
To begin with...
Neopoints, Where Thou Hath Thy Gone? (no clue what I just wrote)
I'm taking this out of my memory so it wasn't really part of my research but
when I first started Neopets I got 500 Neopoints at the start. I'm not sure
when it changed since I didn't make any new accounts through that time period
but now you only get 300 Neopoints when you make a new account. This might not
seem like much but it is something.
This probably happened because I think that now a days it is easier to get
Neopoints then when it was a long time ago. Think of it this way. About a year
ago there was probably only, what, thirty, or forty games? Most of them did
not even have the option of the 'Quality' for those with slow computers but
now there is over ninety games that you can play and earn a nifty bit of Neopoints
You could probably sit there at your computer for hours playing every single
one of them and make hundreds of thousands of Neopoints
And what about the random events and freebies? Places like Tombola, The Fruit
Machine, and Coltzen's Shrine all have prizes that include Neopoints sometimes.
So, it really IS easier to get Neopoints these days and if it was really that
easy then you wouldn't need a lot of Neopoints to start off, right?
Stop The Presses!
Did you know that Neopets was in the newspaper? There are a whole bunch of articles
about Neopets in the newspaper and on the Web. There are fourteen articles all
together, to be exact, and you can see them by clicking here. This is
where I got my key source of information.
So... surprised yet? There's still more...
Have you ever had one of those days where you just can't seem to draw anything
or that your picture doesn't look right even though you've worked on the same
exact part of the picture over and over again? I know for one thing, since I
love to draw so much, that Neopets also had those days. Now meet the Neopets
that didn't quite make it past the drawing board. Click here to see for yourself
what they look like. I personally think that Adam's picture is the best.
Look at all the detail he put into it! I wonder why it didn't make it?
Want To Adopt A Mellish Anyone?
In conclusion to my article I've left this last. Hey, like they say, save the
best for last, right? So, now it's back to the Ottawa Citizen (Feb. 7, 2000).
Long, long time ago before I was even born... erm... I mean before I even joined
Neopets, Adam named the Mellish in honour of his friend. Now if you were to
pretend to be a psychic mind reader and would read my mind at that very moment,
you would see it as, "BLANK... ???? BLANKBLANK??? BLANK... ??" All until I read
the next part. Quoted here, Adam said the Mellish was, "a weird looking thing
with ginger hair."
Think... what could it possibly be? Moehogs have ginger hair but I wouldn't
say they look actually weird because in real life warthogs look a lot like Moehogs
so Adam could of just said, "a weird looking warthog with ginger hair." Still,
it didn't seem right. Or maybe it was a Ch--OOPS! Sorry, I'm all out of time!
Guess you'll have to figure it out on your own. This is Lyra142
signing off for now (to tend to her poor fractured ankle). Like they say in
Japanese, Ja ne!
