Pango Pango Returns!

by queenofhollywood

MYSTERY ISLAND - Close your eyes... take another sip of your Hot Borovan and another bite of your Rainbow Doughnut and let me bring you into the wonderful world of Pango Pango.

It was the year 2000 and Mystery Island had just been released. This island full of Kougras and Tiki Tack merchandise eventually became the land of dreams for many Neopians. Why? Simply because of everyone's favourite Neopian - the unforgettable Pango Pango!

Anyone who has been to Mystery Island will already know of the great Pango Pango. After all, he is the most famous Neopian in Mystery Island! But how much do we really know about the elusive Pango Pango? No record of him exists in the Neopedia, and there is only one item in Neopia named after him (the "Pango Chute").

Mmm, starchy!

But being such a good citizen of Neopia, I thought you deserved to know more about him than what you probably already know, so I went on a quest to find out all about Pango Pango.

Pango Pango is a very cute coconut chief who lives on Mystery Isle. He donates lots of weird and wonderful island fruit to the Money Tree such as Starfruit, Scabu and Golden Juppies. It is a great experience to visit Mystery Isle and you can do so by boat or tiki tour. You may even see the great coconut chief himself! Mystery Isle is a beautiful island off the coast of Mystery Island which is a warm and exotic location, perfect for a day or weekend trip.

Despite his generosity and good looks, Pango Pango does not get the recognition he rightfully deserves. If you search for stories about Pango Pango in The Neopian Times, you will only get a link to an irrelevant story which doesn't mention him! There are 27 matches for "Mystery Island" but most either just include the words "mystery" or "island" or are simply tour guides. (Some of these are good reads however, such as the one from Week 20). I have never seen a guild dedicated to him, nor a Pet Page or Web site. If you have one, I apologise, please Neomail me and let me know about it.

There IS some merchandise featuring everybody's favourite Neopian however! Apart from the Pango Chute, the only item named after him, there are numerous items of island merchandise with Pango Pango on them. Visit the Island Merchandise Shop to buy Pango Pango items. Official Coconut mask, Souvenir Magnet,Island Lighter and Coconut Key Ring are all items with the Pango Pango Seal of Approval.

If you really like Pango Pango (admit it, who doesn't?), then you can offer him a tribute at the Cooking Pot. Jhuidah cooks your unwanted items into a new one and gives them to Pango Pango, exchanging the new item for your old ones. She says he will be vengeful if you do not please him, but Pango Pango will never hurt your pets ,of course, he will just be offended and will return your items. The Cooking Pot was introduced to Neopia on the 31st August 2000 and Mystery Island was created in August 2000.

So who are Pango Pango's friends and family. Many of them are as elusive as Pango Pango himself. Some such as Mumbo Pango, however, are slightly more well known. If Mumbo Pango's name doesn't mean anything to you, then check out his picture. Mumbo Pango is BIG! The strange but wise Island Mystic is a great friend of Pango Pango and shares his advice with him. Tiki Tack Man, famous for working at the Tombola and Tiki Tack Merchandise Shop and being a Battledome challenger also enjoys sharing some leftover Semolina and Dandelion and Burdock Drink with him.

Pango Pango is a gift to the society of Neopia and all Neopians should love and respect him as much as I do! Please take some time to visit him and find out more about Mystery Island and the Pango tribe. Open your eyes and finish the Borovan and doughnut... the journey to Mystery Island is over now, thank you for joining me.
