Neopian Cuisine

by juicybubbles

"Hello, and welcome once again to Neopian Cuisine! I'm your host as always, Calianja the Acara! Today, we have with us a very special guest. Continuing with our Faerie Food series, here's the Air Faerie! Hi! How are you today, Air?"

"I'm doing fine today, Calianja."

"That's great! So what are we making today?"

"Today, I thought we'd make one of my favorite treats, a Cherry-tastic Faerie Pie."

"Is this all we're making today, Air?"

"Well, If it doesn't take to long to make the Cherry-tastic Faerie Pie, I have a very special surprise at the end of the show that we can make!"

"Well, this sounds exciting! Let's get right into this, OK?"

"OK, Calianja! Now, this pie calls for homemade pie crust. So let's get started by making that! For 2 8-inch pie crusts, one for the top and one for the bottom, you will need:

2 cups Flour
1/2 teaspoon Salt
2/3 cup Shortening
1/3 cup Cold Water

Now, to start off, mix the flour and salt together in a bowl. Cut in the shortening using a pastry blender. If you don't have a pastry blender, you can also use 2 knives. When your done, the pastry should look like crumbs. Now, you want to add your water tablespoon by tablespoon while mixing with a fork. Make sure you only use enough water so that the pastry will hold together when gently pressed into a ball. OK, now, we have the crust done! Now, for the whole pie you will need:

The Basic Pie Crust
3 cups Canned Sweet Pitted Cherries
1/4 cup Sugar
2 1/2 tablespoons Quick Cooking Tapioca
2 teaspoons Butter

OK, first, you want to preheat your oven to 425 degrees F(220 degrees C). Line an 8 inch pie pan with half of the crust dough. Make sure it cover the entire pie pan. Now, you want to drain your cherries, saving 1/2 cup of the juice. Put this juice in a bowl and mix in the sugar and tapioca. Once that is well mixed, add the cherries and mix well. Pour the mixture into the pie pan over the crust. Put the butter in dots over the mixture. Roll out the leftover crust dough. Make sure it's in a circular shape that's big enough to cover the whole pie. Now, in the middle of the crust, cut any shape you desire, or just cut slits in it. Then you want to put it over the pie. If you want, you may put the top crust over the pie before you cut the shapes of slits. Once it's on top, use a fork to press the edges of the top crust together with the edges of the bottom crust. Now, out it in your oven and bake for about 10 minutes. After the 10 minutes, you want to reduce your heat to 350 degrees F(180 degrees C). This is to prevent it from burning. Bake 30-40 more minutes, or until the crust is a golden brown color."

"Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, that sounds great, Air! Do you think we have time to make your special surprise?"

"Yes, I think we do!"

"OK, then after this commercial break, we'll come back to hear the recipe for Air's secret Faerie Food. Stay tuned!"

AFTER COMMERCIAL BREAK....

"OK, welcome back everybody! We're here with Air, and now she's going to share her secret recipe with us! Take it away, Air!"

"Thanks Calianja! OK, my secret recipe is for Fruity Faerie Fingers with Raspberry Jam! Now, for the breadsticks you will need:

1 cup Hot Milk
4 tablespoons Butter
1 1/2 tablespoons Sugar
2 teaspoons Salt
1 package(about 2 tablespoons) Dry Yeast
3 cups White Flour
1 Egg White, lightly beaten with
1 tablespoon cold water

First, mix the milk, butter, sugar, and salt in a large bowl and let it cool until it is warm, not hot. Next, stir the yeast with about 1/4 cup warm water and let stand about 5 minutes so it dissolves. Make sure you are doing this in a separate bowl than the other mixture. Add the yeast and 2 cups of the flour to the milk, butter, sugar, and salt mixture. Mix it well. Add enough of the remaining flour so that the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Put the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 2 minutes. Let it sit for about 10 minutes. After the 10 minutes is up, continue kneading until the dough is smooth and has elasticity. Now, put the dough into a greased bowl and cover it with a towel. Let it sit in a warm place until it about doubles in size. This may take a couple hours, or only 1 hour. Keep checking on it just to make sure its not much more than doubled in size. After it is doubled in size, punch down and use a rolling pin to roll it into a rectangle about 1/2 an inch thick. Cut the rectangle into strips about an inch thick. Place the sticks on a buttered cookie sheet about 1 inch apart. Now, place them in a warm spot again so they about double in size again. Preheat your oven to 300 degrees F(150 degrees C)Once they are doubled, brush the egg white mixture over the tops of them. Now, put them in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes, or until golden brown. Now, for the Raspberry Jam you will need:

4 cups Raspberries
3 cups Warm Sugar

Just to let you know, it's best to use a Jelly Thermometer when making this, but any kind of thermometer will work. First, clean the raspberries. Then put them into a large pot and crush them with a potato masher. If you don't have a potato masher, you can just mash them with a large spoon or whatever you want to mash them with. Cook them for about 15 minutes. Add the sugar to them and bring them to a boil. Make sure the temperature doesn't go any higher than 214 degrees F (102 degrees C) on the thermometer. Take the foam off the top and let it sit until it's cool. Now, pour the jam into jars or whatever your desire! If you don't like raspberries, you can substitute any fruit for the raspberries. If you want Strawberry Jam, just use 4 cups Strawberries for the 4 cups Raspberries! Or, if you want to combine 2 fruits, like Raspberries and Strawberries, just use 2 cups of each! There you go! ow you have your Fruity Faerie Fingers with Raspberry, or whatever fruit, Jam!"

"That sounds great, Air! OK, we're out of time. I'd like to thank the Air Faerie for being here today! I'd also like to thank, as always, Health Frog, the Breadmaster, and Neopia Fresh Foods for their ingredient contributions! This is Calianja the Acara saying Thank You and Good Bye!"
