Beyond the Music: Jazzmosis

by cherrymagic

Welcome to Beyond the Music, brought to you by the Neopian Times Appreciation Guild.

There are lots of bands in Neopia these days; bands with rock 'n' roll music, country, modern, bubble-gum pop and disco. Yet there is one that fills the soul, one with a mellow sound that nobody could resist. That sound is the sweet sound of jazz.

There is one group in Neopia that writes, plays, sings and records the jazziest sounds. Jazzmosis is that band's name, and I was lucky enough to write this article about them, behind the music... behind the jazz.

I did the research, and was even able to get an interview with them. They told me about their lives, and how the have become such a popular band.

The band started back in the start of Year 1, in the bustling city of Neopia. The six members, Barry (Chia), Sazio (Grarrl), Kalvin (Blumaroo), Viogi (Kyrii), Seagor (Elephante) and Tarrie (Nimmo) had all been very close friends in school. Now that they had graduated, they didn't know where to turn. All six of them had been in love with jazz, but never thought they would be able to start a band and record an album. Until one day, when Barry got a call from his cousin in Tyrannia. Through a complex conversation of "ughs" and "ugga-ugga-UGHS!" Barry's cousin told him that the Tyrannian Concert Hall was holding auditions for not-quite-yet bands.

Barry quickly told the other members and they all agreed. They would go for an audition! They had practised and practised, and finally thought they were ready for an audition. They were going to perform a new song they wrote together, called "Jazzy Jumpers".

The audition went well, and Pete, the Tyrannian concert hall manager, had told them to write four more songs, and they would be able to record an album.

The band was extremely excited, yet then popped up a few bumps in the road to stardom. Kalvin came down with a terrible case of D'achoo, and Barry (the lead singer), had gotten braces, so he couldn't sing without someone noticing his new teeth-straighteners.

By then, the band had gotten no where. They had canceled the release of their upcoming album, "Saxophone Street", and Seagor was in a horrible state. He had lost most of the bands money on Poogle Racing, so they had no Neopoints to record their album. The members were extremely depressed.

Then a miracle happened. Sazio, the saxophone player, had bought a lottery ticket with the bands last 100 Neopoints A few days later, Sazio found the winning lottery numbers from the news and he matched up his numbers to the winning ones. He had won! The band had one the money! Now they could record their album!

The next few years for the band were wonderful. They released five new albums, they had dozens upon dozens of gigs at the Concert Hall, and all the members were feeling great. Seagor never bet on another Poogle race, Kalvin hadn't sneezed since his case of D'achoo and Barry's teeth were straight and shining.

Now, they are regulars at the Concert Hall, with hundreds of fans. They donate 20% of their ticket sale money to the Money Tree, and help the community as best they can.

I went to one of their concerts, and there they were, smiling abroad. Barry, his deep voice singing away, Sazio, his saxophone humming to the music. The keyboard playing away by Kalvin, and the cello being plucked at by Viogi. Seagor's trumpet trunk blared, and Tarrie happily keeping the beat.

Jazzmosis was back on their feet.

This has been another episode of Beyond The Music. Thank you to Jazzmosis, and keep on jazzin'!
