Hi! My name is Thundrush and I'm a brown Wocky. This story is about my old
life. I hope you like it!
A dark blue female Wocky named Shadow and a bright white male Wocky named
Orion snuggled up together to protect each other from the harsh, cold winds
of Terror Mountain. Shadow had traveled very far and was very tired, and any
minute they would have five little Wockys to look after.
Orion helped her get settled in a cave as the howling winds rushed outside.
Shadow lay quietly as Orion kept her warm. Before they knew it, there were five
little Wockys laying next to their mother. She looked up at Orion with a smile.
Her smiled back at her.
Shadow was weak from having five Wockys and could hardly keep track of all
of them at the same time. Orion, who had lived in an alley all his life and
had a scar to prove it, had enough energy to keep the little Wockys in the
cave with their mother.
When Orion and Shadow were trying to think of names, the Wockys meowed. All
but one. She just lay down and breathed quietly. "She's a quiet one," Orion
pointed out. "Her name will be Whisper."
They looked at the other two female Wockys. Unlike Whisper, they weren't
exactly silent. They rolled around the cave with each other, mewing and hissing
and swiping playfully at one another. One was bright yellow and the other was
light blue. "The blue one will be Sky and the yellow will be Sunny," announced
Shadow.
Sky and Sunny smiled. They seemed to like their names. Orion grabbed the little
dark yellow male Wocky by the scruff of his neck. The little Wocky hissed and
swiped at him. "Isn't he a tough one!" Shadow laughed. "How about Tornado?"
Shadow and Orion looked at the dark blue Wocky, me, as I ran across the cave.
"He's almost faster than thunder," said Orion. "Let's name him Thundrush, because
he rushes like thunder."
After all of the Wockys were named, Shadow curled up with me and my brother
and sisters. But that night, something unexpected happened.
When it was very dark out, we heard a gasping noise. It sounded like something
was struggling to breathe. I opened my eyes. But it was so dark, I couldn't
see a thing. The gasping continued. I got very frightened and meowed until I
heard my mum wake up. My dad, too, woke up. "Orion, what is it? What's that
noise?" my mum called worriedly.
My dad said, "Flash!"
The cave suddenly lit up. I looked over at Whisper. She was laying on the
ground, motionless. I whimpered as my dad poked Whisper. She just lay, not moving,
unblinking. My mum looked at my dad as he stared at Whisper. "Oh, Orion! I knew
something was wrong with her! I know why she was so quiet!" My mum sobbed into
my dad's fur.
I cried too. But little did I know, that was only the beginning of the misery
that I'd experience in my life.
When Tornado and I got older and stronger, we'd go out to hunt with my dad.
My mum stayed in our cave with my two sisters, Sunny and Sky. I didn't like
hunting. My dad told me that it was survival of the fittest, and that it was
the balance of nature.
One day, as we hunted up in the mountains, I sat next to a tree as Dad and
Tornado sniffed around. I turned toward the tree I rubbed it. The bark was really
soft; perfect for climbing. I latched my claws onto it and swung onto a branch.
I sat there for awhile, watching Dad and Tornado wander aimlessly in search
of food.
Suddenly, the tree branch started to shake. I thought it was going to snap,
so I hopped to another branch. That one was shaking, too. What was happening?
Before I could find out, the tree branch snapped and I dropped to the ice and
snow below me.
I felt a pain run through the side of my head. I had scratched my head and
got a scar. I glanced up at the mountains and gasped. Snow and rocks were tumbling
down the icy peaks. An avalanche! The ground started shaking more, and I got
up. "Run!" I shouted to Dad and Tornado.
I started to run. They were right behind me. But, since I was faster that
the both of them, I was far ahead. I paused and turned, just as I saw the snow
catch up to Tornado and push him off the side of the cliff. I was on the verge
of tears, but I had to keep on going, or I'd suffer that same fate.
I ran for a very long time. I glanced over my shoulder and saw that the avalanche
had stopped. I climbed up the hill, looked for Orion, my dad. I was sure that
I wouldn't find Tornado. I searched for hours, and every minute I grew more
doubtful. It would be hard to find him since he was white like the snow.
I stopped walking to rest for a bit. I sobbed silently. Everything was going
wrong. Why couldn't I be a Wocky that had an owner and a house and food? Thoughts
were running through every part of my head when I heard someone gasp, "Son."
"Dad? Where are you dad? Talk! Please talk!"
I heard laboured breathing behind me. I turned again and saw something I'd
never recover from; my dad was halfway crushed under a boulder. I rushed over.
"Dad," I sobbed, "Dad, I'll help you out. Or I'll go get mum. Please don't go!"
"Thundrush," he breathed, "Go back to your mother. She needs someone to protect
her. She can't be alone. Go back to her. Leave me here."
He closed his eyes and I started to run. I ran from the sorrow. The misery.
I ran from Terror Mountain. I ran and ran and ran and...
"Hey, who's this guy? And what's he doin' in my castle?"
"I dunno. But if he's stayin', tell him to get his own food."
"Guys, guys. Be easy on the Wocky."
"Settle down! He's wakin' up!"
I opened my eyes. I saw an Acara with a crown on her head. A fat purple Meerca
with a belt on. An Eerie with a medallion around his neck. And a Bruce with
glasses, a shirt, and a coin necklace.
They all stood, staring at me. I heard of these guys. They played a game called
Cheat.
The Acara, Princess Fernypoo, said, "He's NOT sleeping in here!"
"Calm yourself, sister! He can sleep with me," came the casual voice of Branston
the Eerie.
I looked at Branston and he smiled slyly. "So what's your name, kid?" he said.
"Thundrush," I replied.
"Okay. Well, Thundrush. You're stickin' with us. We're gonna teach ya how
to play Cheat like us champions. You're runnin' with the big dogs now, buster!"
The others cheered. "Now, how about we go get us a couple of slushies?" Branston
suggested. Chuffer Bob the Meerca shouted gleefully and we walked to the slushie
store in Neopian Central.
Branston and I quickly became friends. I had stayed with him for seven months
already. We'd go to the slushie store every day. We'd play Cheat side by side.
In his spare time, he taught me some dance moves. I thought that this life was
meant for me. But it wasn't.
Two years later...
One day, Branston and I went to Krawk Island to eat at the new restaurant,
The Gold Dubloon. We sat down and picked up the menus. "Nothing on this menu
looks... edible." I said to Branston.
"Good one, kid," he laughed. "Well what do you know, they serve free water!"
I didn't know if that was supposed to be funny or not, so I laughed anyway.
We kept making jokes and goofing off. A waitress came by. "May I take your order?"
she asked politely. Her voice was smooth.
I looked at the waitress. She was a beautiful light blue Wocky. Her eyes were
the colour of the sunset on the sea. She looked vaguely familiar to me. I looked
on her name tag. In small letters, it clearly read, "_SKY_"
I gasped. I was standing right in front of my own sister that I and all she
says is, "May I take your order?"
"Hey, sis," I exclaimed, "Don't you remember me?"
"Thundrush? The last time I saw you was when we were little balls of fluff!
How have you been? Why aren't you with Dad?"
I cringed. "I've put all that behind me." That was all that came out of my
mouth for a long time.
Everything was silent. I took a deep breath and explained to her about the
avalanche and dad and tornado. She nodded sadly when I finished. "Why aren't
you with mum? Or Sunny?" I asked her.
"Mum and Sunny got really sick. They stayed in the cave and slept. I tried
to get a job to get money for food and medicine, but every job rejected me.
I couldn't give up. I went back to the cave every night to check on them. Sunny
kept screaming about things in her dreams. I finally found a job here. I've
been working for three days now. I told Mum, and she told me to stick to the
job and leave her and Sunny there to take care of themselves. They were getting
better, so I trusted that they'd be all right and came to work here. I might
find and owner someday!"
Branston looked at me, then at _Sky_, then at me again. "Not that I don't
enjoy this little "family reunion" and all... but can I please order?"
"Oh, sure!" said _Sky_, "But you'll have to order from another waitress. I'm
quitting."
_Sky_ and I got up and walked out the front door. I poked my head back in
the door and winked at Branston. He winked back and whispered, "Good luck, kid.
See ya again sometime."
_Sky_ and I wandered up to Terror Mountain again. We saw so many people with
NeoPets. _Sky_ looked at some of the owners and made sad eyes. Soon, we got
hungry. Sky had Neopoints from working and she bought slushies. I, who was now
SICK of slushies, looked at mine with disgust. _Sky_ took mine and drank it
too. And I didn't care.
We sat on the bench and tried our hardest to look "cute" but it wasn't working.
I had a dark red scar running down the side of my face and _Sky_ had part of
her ear bitten off.
I stared at all the owners. None of them wanted me. I tried to look as adorable
as possible. Suddenly, a Chia popped out of nowhere. "Hiya!" she screamed at
the top of her lungs at _Sky_, "Whatcha doing? Are you a stray?"
"Yes... yes I am," _Sky_ said.
"GOOD!" screamed the Chia. She was very loud. "My owner is looking for a NeoPet.
She's lookin' in the pound though. Uh-huh, the pound. Yup, the pound. But I
was smart. Uh-huh, smart! I found a stray NeoPet right here! On a bench! Yup,
on a bench!"
_Sky_ looked at the overly happy Chia that WOULD NOT shut up. The Chia was
now bouncing up and down. "Come on! Come with me and you will be adopted! Uh-huh!!!
And we will be sister! Us two and two others! A Gelert and a Kau! We'll be buds
for ever and ever and ever!"
The Chia abruptly stopped dancing. "My owner is nice," she quickly added.
_Sky_ looked at me. "Thundrush, you sure you don't mind? Should I..."
"Go with the Chia," I said. "I'm not going to ruin your chance of getting
an owner. I'll see you around, I guess."
She nodded, "Thanks! When you get your owner, we can Neomail each other!"
"Cool!" I said. I'm not very good with goodbyes.
When _Sky_ went with the Chia, I was left alone. I strolled along the snowy
paths, humming to myself. One day I woke up with a huge headache.
"Oh no, I have Achy Head!" I shouted.
When I stood up, I got dizzy. So I crawled around, looked for an owner. Not
many people were walking today. I sat on my bench and sighed. I was just drifting
off to sleep when I heard, "You're the best owner ever! I can't wait until we
come here again!"
I opened my eyes. A tall, skinny kid with brown hair was walking a few yards
away from me. He had a Zafara on his shoulders. The Zafara had a cap on. He
was licking an ice cream and holding a balloon that read, "I LOVE THE TERROR
MOUNTAIN CARNIVAL!"
The kid with the Zafara stopped and looked at me. "Woah!" he said, looking
at me. "Are you okay, little guy?"
"Yeah," I sighed, "except the fact that I'm all alone."
"Then I'll adopt you," said the kid. "My name is Logan."
Logan took me home and introduced me to LightningPaw, his Zafara. He painted
me brown.
I am so happy now!
